    Is the GBA Wildlife Hatchet really that good? Well in this video we discuss the pro's and cons of this little hatchet and see why I think it makes a pretty stellar piece of equipment for bushcraft. I also discuss why this is my go-to hatchet for bushcraft and survival practice.

    I came to this conclusion about 5 years ago if you have a GB Wildlife hatchet and a Silky "Big-Boy" folding saw there's pretty much what you need for surviving in the woods especially if you have a spyderco s90v military OR a paramilitary 2 and a (BIC lighter & Ferro rod) in your pocket and a canteen and cup on your belt and a "heat shield in your back pocket. (in the lower 48 not Alaska though!).

    Fully agree. I have several hatchets and axes but if I bring one this is the one I take.

    I think you'd like the GBA Scandinavian Forest Axe for your next, two-handed axe. Just a thought.

    I agree about the Hatchet feeling like an extension of your body.
    Although I have a Wildlife Hatchet I prefer to take the Mini Hatchet, even though weight isn't an issue as I cycle and packraft rather than hike.
    A Mini Hatchet and a Silky Saw are a Dynamic Duo (read to the Batman theme tune!).

      YES I personally like the Mini coupled with the Silky "Super Accel" very small and very light weight.

    My parents will buy me one for birthday!

    Its a luxury item for sure. But hey, you can do almost everything with a $20 Mora Robust knife, or you can buy a $200 Bark River that does the same things. Might do it a little better, but 10x better? At the end of the day you buy it if you can afford it and want to enjoy a luxury item.

      NO --- it's not a good point --- a McDonalds cheeseburg will feed him but do think he just eats a McDonald's everytime or do you believe he has a Nice T-Bone or New York Strip Steak every once in a while?@@AlaskanFrontier1

      I went back and forth in my head over this hatchet but just couldn't justify the cost so picked up an indestructible little Estwing. It chops everything I need and I use the poll to hit my tent stakes in without a worry. The GB is a beautiful axe but I'd be scared to really use it. And worry about leaving it in the bush somewhere or someone 'borrowing it'.

    I go car camping and hiking a lot. My sister gave me this hatchet as a gift for my birthday. it is my first hatchet or axe. It sounds like a great hatchet, but is this overkill for what I do?

    I couldn’t find the hatchet so I got a Swedish Carving Axe. It has a lot more blade to it. What do you think?

    • @AlaskanFrontier1
      @AlaskanFrontier1  3 года назад +1

      Hmm I am unfamiliar with that one, but having more blade on a hatchet tends to be for the better as one of the primary purposes of hatchets is carving

    did you ever get into Kukri's? I was wondering if a Kukri could compare to a hatchet in performance.

  • @SpamMusubi308
    @SpamMusubi308 3 года назад +2

    Ok I can get behind that, but the price point kills it for me I mean it's a little like comparing a Timex to a Rolex they both do essentially the same thing (one might do that a little better) which is going to hurt more to replace 🤗

    Son, nice hatchet. However $ 160 for such a small hatchet is not justifiable.
    A $ 30 Fiskar does the job. I use the same Fiskar hatchet for the past 25 years.
    No problems with it so far.

      harbor freight tools will fix your car, but a craftsman will use his snap on tools. sorry you cant understand this, son.

    • @AlaskanFrontier1
      @AlaskanFrontier1  3 года назад +2

      First off, thank you. I do enjoy my GBA. However if a Fiskars does the trick, then keep on using it. Bushcraft is unique for everyone and while I am happy to have my GBA I will never impose my ideals of tools on anyone.

      I agree. Crazy ass prices on that brand while there are others (cheaper or in the middle) that are just as fantastic

      I have both the Fiskars and the GBA. I won’t even bother with the Fiskars anymore. These are just like any you would find in a hardware store. When you pick it up, it feels like a lump of metal at one end of a stick. The GBA feels like a specialty tool and cuts WAY better! You get what you pay for!

      People act like $160 is so much money. Especially for a tool that will last them a lifetime. Yet, they'll spend that on a phone bill for 2 months.
