Stephanie, I was living in Venezuela and still learning Spanish. We were kite flying with massive kites and the kite we were flying was getting close to my Venezuelan friends head, so I yelled out to her “su caballo” while pointing at her head. After she started laughing she reminded me that is the name for horse!! 🤣 (instead of cabeza which is the word for head!!) So I was yelling at her “your horse” instead of “your head”. Fortunately she was a very good friend so it remains a very funny memory.
I wrote a letter to my future husband in my beginner’s Dutch. I wrote, “Mijn ouders zijn bewegen naar een nieuwe huis.” Moving. Bewegen of verhuizen?!!
I live in middle Tennessee. My daughter-in-love is from Swindon England. The first time I met her, at our home, she happily commented that our home was so homely. In North America, homely is what you call someone who is ugly. We still laugh at that. 😂🥰
😉Your story reminded me of my beautiful 🇦🇺Aussie flatmate while at Uni. She had a childhood friend's younger sister stay with us for her holiday. We lived off campus. I had the most free time, so I showed her around Los Angeles 🚘 while my bestie was at work. Tamran told Anne that I was very homely😳. I was very upset until I realized she meant it as a compliment for my warmth & hospitality. We had a lot of laughs about that. 🤗Cheers! 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
I started using Babble. Back in December, I almost lost my Mum. During a patch of delirium she thought she was visiting the chateau. When she came home from the hospital we decided to try to learn French and plan a trip to see you. We are not experts yet so Mum says next year.
I am now a retired Flight Attendant. I was learning German. I thought I was doing quite well until I saw horrified looks on the passenger faces. I stopped and ran back to a German speaking Attendant. She asked me to repeat what I had said. “Would you like the beef or dog.” Her eyes got big and I begged her to apologize to the passengers for me. She explained to them that I was still learning German and what I wanted to say, “Would you like the beef or the chicken”. Fortunately, the passengers were kind and understanding and burst out laughing. I was bright red. They all thanked me for learning their language and a good story and laugh. Thank you again to the German people for treating so kindly that day.😊
To be fair Huhn and Hund sound very similar, especially to someone who learns the language! And german is a horrible language to learn. Coming from a native speaker, I wouldn't want to have to learn it =D
@@tiffytattoo2450 Thank you Tiffy! That is exactly what I did. I didn’t even realize I was saying the word wrong. I had been flying Asian routes for years. So English, Japanese, Chinese and Korean was what I was used to. As a change of pace, I decided to fly European routes. I was trying to learn German, French, Spanish and Dutch at the same time.😊
What a joyous video Stephanie! Aunt and Uncle, Mummy Isabelle and Percy, GLORIOUS flowers, Davy, Cat and wonderful Ardmore beauty - who could ask for more?💐❤️💐❤️ Oh - and not forgetting the very talented Wendy!🥰
This 1 is specially for Philip - I was an au-pair for a Dutch family in Eindhoven, Netherlands and 1 evening at the dinner table, the parents were discussing taking the kids for their first swimming lessons. So I happily shared with them I can't swim. They look so shocked by this, so I quickly put their minds at ease and said "Ik kan wel plas in de water" intended to let them know I can splash around in the water... only to realize a few days later what I actually said was that I can wee in the water... 😂😂 needless to say, the kids did not learn to swim that year - for more than 1 reason 😂
Your story about learning Dutch resonates well with me !!! Many (many) years ago I was working as a hotel receptionist and studying spoken Japanese. Those days, guests had to manually request a 'price-required' international call at reception and have the call transferred to their room. One dear elderly Japanese gentleman made a call request but didn't speak any English. I felt confident enough with my spoken Japanese to give him instructions to return to his room and await the call.... only to be confused by his rather bemused reaction as he tottled off. I learnt later that I had in fact told him to go to his room and hang. Suffice to say, I was mortified and so embarrassed. Wish I had Babbel 40 years ago :)
I absolutely enjoyed this trip to the UK. It is always fabulous to see the Chelsea Gardens. Loved seeing Kat, Isabelle, Percy, Davey, and Scotman. Also, it's good to see Wendy. I am still in a lot of pain, but now on antibiotics and more pain meds. So far, I am still home with a nurse coming daily to do my dressings. Thank you so much for your prayers and kind thoughts. It is greatly appreciated. ❤❤❤

Gardens, flowers, dresses, Cat, Davy, Philip, Stephanie, Mummy, Percy, Wendy, Gerry, Aunt and Uncle, driving, scenery, edibles, wine, Ardmore (and more) Chelsea Garden, bed. I'm sure there's more but this is what comes to mind. Beauty, love, joy, happiness, colour, nature, it's all a swirl of goodness. Thank you Stephanie and Philip. Much love to you. ☺️💕💕
👩🦳💆♀✨ Wow, Mummy looks incredibly rejuvenated and like she's turned back the clock by 20 years! She's glowing and refreshed. Whatever she's been doing or using, it's definitely working wonders. It's amazing how a few changes can make such a big difference. Keep up the great work, Mummy, and enjoy your transformed bedroom and the wonderful tour of the UK and Chelsea Flower Show!
This is a language mistake we experienced, not one we made, but it was quite funny. My husband and I have just returned from a European river cruise - our wonderful program director was a lovely German gentleman named Hannes, who spoke excellent English. Hannes (a very jovial and energetic guy) was from Nürnberg and was delighted to share his city with us when we arrived. Lunch of Nürnberger bratwurst had been arranged in a restaurant in-town and on the bus ride from the boat to the city center Hannes explained the difference between Nürnberger bratwurst and Regensburger bratwurst, two very popular versions of bratwurst. He told us that both were made of pork but were seasoned/spiced differently, and the Nürnberger wursts were skinnier, so it's normal to be served about six for a meal. Also, the makers of Nürnberger bratwurst decided that pig testicles were not strong enough, so they started using sheep testicles (what?). Over time they somehow discovered that German sheep testicles still weren't strong enough for the bratwurst, but the testicles from Iranian sheep were just perfect, so that's what they use now. Really!?! The bus was really quiet while he gave us this explanation - I know I personally was wondering about the testing process, and exactly how this all worked - finally someone at the front of the bus asked a question and Hannes suddenly realized he had used the wrong word - he meant to say INTESTINES (for the bratwurst casing), not testicles. Needless to say, we all dissolved in laughter, to include Hannes.
I've been told that I should press the thumbs up " like " button at the end of the video if I liked the vid , but with yours I press it at the beginning because I have loved each and every one . This one was wonderful as usual , thank you ! Cherryl from Canada
Steph and Philip wouldn’t an inspired African room at Lalande be wonderful with the beautiful Ardmore fabrics. A lovely nod to Percy and Michael too. 😃🧡
That’s a hilarious Dutch language story 😂 When I was very young and just started learning Dutch for my love, we had dinner with his bachelor friend. Greeting him I said: wat zie jij er prachtig uit, meaning how nice it was to see him. Well I said how good, beautiful, looking he was. As I was making a pass at him. You live and you learn 😂
Stefanie, I am from the U.S. and had a swimming accident in the Bahamas, requiring a shot of antibiotic. “In the Fanny?” I asked, not knowing what that means in U.K. English. “0h, no!” the nurse exclaimed. “Don’t say such a thing!”
It’s always so fun to see your mum (and Gerry & Percy) and your sweet aunt too ( not to mention your master van packer uncle….reminds me of my late dad…he just knew how to expertly pack just about anything (you might not be able to find things after he got through, but he’d get it all in there.) And Philip…well he’s just a sweetie and a gentleman. Attending the Chelsea Flower Show has got to be on my bucket list…that at 66, I’m getting more serious about all the time. Thanks for taking us along, as usual! 😊
Not me personally. But my late husband's cousin was in Central America. She was practicing her Spanish. Thinking she had it all down, when they went to a restaurant (there were 10 in the group), she watched as everyone ordered. Feeling confident, she told them what she wanted. The table roared and the server blushed bright red. Instead of the entree, she said, "I have had many men." Never quite lived that one down.
Absolutely in love with " Ardmore" designs and their fabrics are exquisite. Mummy Isabelle's reaction to her headboard was delightful. Love seeing your Uncle & Aunt in their beautiful home. ❤
When I was about 5 I visited my Granny in Germany (I come from Poland), and Granny told me how to say "I don't speak German" in German. We went to a playground and I used the phrase. Next thing my Granny heard was a little boy talking to his Grandma: "I think this girl is strange, she says in German she does not speak German" :D. Now I do speak German though ;) Also at work one day my colleague started to laugh histerically while writing an email. We came over to her desk and saw the reason. She wrote to a client "We have tried to kill you several times, but without success" LOL.
I looked on Stephanie’s grand tours but couldn’t find the Chelsea flower show. Am I looking in the right place. Isabelle looks twenty years younger than her age….really amazing.
Lovely vlog, great seeing mum and percy. I love Dinosaur Backs, (Cornish pasty) the ends were supposed to be discarded because workers had dirty hands and couldn't wash. Part of the pie use to have a fruit filling. Hi Kat.
What a road trip you guys are Super Heroes. It was worth it for the fountain, seat and whatever else you got. 👏👏 Nice to see Mummy, Percy , Gerald, Davey and your Aunt and Uncle, and I’m so envious of you going to the Chelsea Flower Show 🌻🌼🌺🌸🪻🥀🌹💐
Those fabrics were STUNNING! You could use the African toile in your bamboo room. It would look beautiful! Your Aunt and Uncle's home is so beautiful! And so is your mother's apartment! I loved the brick and the high ceilings and beams. Can't wait to see more of her and Percy soon!! One last thing, a train under the sea?! Um, No.Freaking.Way I would do that!! Super claustrophobic!
Wow, what a fantastic vlog! The gardens at Lalande are fabulous...in a few years they will bear the magic of Davey's mind. From France, to your Aunt and Uncle's, to your Mummy's, the Chelsea Flower Show, that outstanding Mavros shop...that navy blue fabric with the wild Magnolia...ohhhh my word!! The teapots, ewers, knickknacks, ( the elephant with the man on the cellphone, and monkey with binoculars was hysterical), vases et al..so many finds! Love and light from Canada 🇨🇦
What a wonderful find that fountain is for the chateau. Wonderful to see Davy again. He's such a nice guy and so full of knowledge about gardening. He looked so well and happy. What a lot of driving you both had to UK and back. THank goodness for the channel tunnel I say!
The whole gang is here, i love the new old bed in mommy's room, really good. That Piercy is a sly one, he has homes of his own. Loved the story about language and Phillips response is Precious, lucky for both great partnership and beautiful lovers too. The garden looks fabulous, i wish Dan was helping at La Lande. I remember seeing you two grappling in the dirt planting that lovely garden. You are all swell fun and i laughed about the striped blouse and shirt. Pretty Cat. You are simply the best!😊
Very excited to see the Chelsea vlog on your other channel. Was lucky enough to go to press day one year. No crowds on press day, it was bliss and one of my happiest days.
It was so nice to see mummy!! She is always a treat to see. Thanks for sharing! I still think your bathrooms are the best!! Can’t wait to see in person one day in the near future. Hey Phillip! I raised a squirrel for 14 years! She was the best pet ever. Just wanted to share ❤
Burglar Bill! Yes! Back in the late 70s I worked for a children's book publisher in NYC and we had access to all the best imports from England. The books by Janet and Allan Ahlberg were the best! Burglar Bill was one of my favorites and later on I read it ceaselessly to my daughter, who is now in her late 30s. Burglar Bill accidentally steals a baby in a basket and teaches it all the rules: "When night comes, he takes the baby for a walk in the park. 'Say Run for it if you see anybody,' says Burglar Bill. 'Runfrit,' the baby says."
I know Burglar Bill! My Mum read the books to us as children! Also I am from Zimbabwe - the home of Patrick Mavros! Love their silver creations and jewelry! Such an artistic family!
Nice to see You were able to give Momma Isabel your old bed headboard. It looks great at Mom's English bedroom. The hedge are is coming along. I hope you get some rain and get out of the drought. I enjoyed your visit to the Chelsea Flower fair. The Peonies and flowers were beautiful so was that cotton dress with flowers too. 🌷🌺🌼😊
I hope to visit the Chelsea Flower Show someday. Lovely to see Cat, Wendy and Davey again. Such a fun and joyful reunion with your family. The gardens at LaLande look beautiful. Thanks for taking us along 😍😘
OH the gardens are coming along well. I can't wait to see the gazebo in place and enhancing the walled garden as well. Davey really knows how to make a wondrous garden to enjoy. One of things I miss the most since getting sick is being in my garden and creating beauty with each plant I have chosen to admire. Mommy and Percy are always a joy to see! OH I just love Ardmore! That would be a dream purchase for me. Love the Loo! LOL I do have to say I have a lovely Loo as well. 😊 Cat and Phillip are adorable twinning. They say good friends do have things in common. 😁 Lovely vlog! Thanks for sharing!
I love your videos Stephanie, I've been with you from the beginning. I love seeing all these places but I really miss seeing work on the chateau and grand salon and other rooms. Please tell me you have plans to show more work 🙏
the driving on to the train that goes under the sea; so interesting. i love art festivals and gardens festivals.❤❤❤ the naughty monkey tea pot is creative.
Loved coming with you on your travels Stephanie and Philip. I feel I've been to London, Paris and Framlingham with you guys. Oh what fun we had 😂. Can't wait for our next trip out. Sending love from Rosie O 🌹from Devon England 👏🇬🇧. X
This is why your videos are so wonderful to watch and so eagerly anticipated by all your friends. Interesting variety, great people, fun, laughter, honesty the exciting, the normal. Just great. Thanks again.
WOW! It was all happening in this episode! Loved the gardens that are coming along so beautifully. Mummy is always such fun and the bed head looks grate. Ahh the flower show, its just stunning. Love the fountain.
So exciting to see Percy, Mummy, Gerald and Cat as well as Davey, and your uncle and aunt in this vlog! Glad Percy and Mummy will make it in a week to visit. Gerald took right a hold of the mattress to help bring it in and he was so wonderful to help Philip! Philip was a trooper, although both of you were tired out in the end! I just pray Gerald was fine, it was a lot for him to do this am sure. Not so easy. The headboard was perfect for Percy and Mummy's room! How mummy just jumped up on the bed lifting herself up so far, her head hit the headboard! She was astonishing at her age! I worked with geriatrics all my life, so it seems anyway, lol, and yet she really is very limber indeed. She can even sit with legs bent out (knees) sideways on the bed! She amazes me, and I am only in my early 70's and with severe Arthritis and Fibromyalgia cannot do it *more as well though*! She is marvelous for her age, and so very happy now all the time! (That has so much to do with it, having the right "spirit" and 'love of family closeness' etc.) Can tell all is going well for them. Mummy is so glad to just be part of everything with Lalande and the whole family is totally on board and ready to help and take part. It makes it so much nicer to have all that can fill the home with love and laughter, in this way! Cat is always so bubbly and fun. Davey is such an intelligent and talented person and yet very serious and always business. So, it seems. But this is his personality, and it is part of his great persona really. Makes him stand out. He sure knows how to get the job done! The plants look perfectly lovely at Lalande and as though this is natural to be growing as they are now up through and to the Chapel. The fountain will be so beautiful in that very space pointed out. Would give anything to have lots of money and be able to just pay for the Chapel at least. I know it will be done with or without my help ( I cannot do, but want to) as it will be so perfect brought right back to all it needs to be once more! Great Vlog!
We do have a Patrick Mavros gallery here in the same little town as me,and every time must stop to have a look at these stunning fabrics and silver creations!😍
So enjoyed this with so many people involved. Truly enjoyed seeing the fabrics and how they used them. I love when a room is but together in a decorated eye, blending patterns that match and coordinate with a twist. Bedroom and bathroom blend together.
I think those are flamingoes around your lovely stone fountain - if you look at their beaks? Lovey to see Mummy and all. Fab to be at the Chelsea flower show with you, Davey and Phillip. This was an epic video! Thank you for sharing everything with us. Sleep well prince and princess! Lots of love and hugs, Jilly & Madge the rescue greyhound, from a hot and sunny (for a change) West Devon, England. xxx
With so much space for gardening at Lalande, it will be so nice to have Hostas all over under the trees. They love shade and there are 70 species with more than 3000 varieties with beautiful folliage.
Thankyou so much for showing us the garden progress. ❤ I can’t believe how well it’s all coming along. I wish I was a fly on the wall when Mummy saw the lawn though!
Another wonderful vlog. So nice to see everyone. Thank you for taking us to the Chelsea flower show. So much beauty on display. I have been using the Babble App to learn French in the hope of coming to LaLande one day. I can’t wait to see the new fountain in place. The Ardmore exhibit was stunning. I can see the elephant toile at the chateau 🙌❤️
My favorite meal! pasties and digestive cookies! The upper peninsula in Michigan is known for its pasties. Digestive cookies work in a pinch for s'mores.
Hysterical, the quintessential Isabelle quips: “My electric blanket is only warm on my side… which is fortunate for me.” Well, and now there is an attractive barrier, a comfy headboard, to insulate a resting couple from the cold wall behind them. As for the Chelsea Flower Show, I’d want to spend many dreamy hours slowly wandering the exhibits admiring the colorful landscapes and the talent that goes into creating them. What better to soothe and nourish the soul?
This was a great vlog. To the people that say stay at home and save your money for the repairs, THIS is why Stephanies needs to get out and about. There is only so much chateau that can be shown.
I've made so many embarrassing mistakes in Japanese, but the one that sticks out the most was when I gave birth to my first child there. I was alone because of COVID rules, so my husband couldn't be there-and at the time, his language ability was better than mine. On the day he was allowed to visit, I was trying to ask the nurse if I could quickly breastfeed my baby before he arrived. But judging by the nurses red face, I'm pretty sure I quite vividly expressed my desire to breastfeed my husband. 🤣🤣🤣 I didn't realize what I said until months later...
For Philip i agree, most important sentence. Hilarious! Stephanie you really do sound great in Dutch for someone who is new to it. Lovely, colourfull vlog.

I totally agree! So does Percy in my humble opinion. Wonderful to see them both thriving.

She's French. That is part of her secret.

And Philip…well he’s just a sweetie and a gentleman. Attending the Chelsea Flower Show has got to be on my bucket list…that at 66, I’m getting more serious about all the time. Thanks for taking us along, as usual! 😊
What a beautiful day! Events galore!!!
Exciting to see Mummy and Percy. Thanks for taking us along for the ride
Też jestem z Polski. Pozdrawiam.
My cheeks hurt! I am wondering if it was Really a mistake... heh heh heh
Oh my, those fabrics and all those fabulous “objets d'art” (ooh la la…my fancy talk.) Wonderful!
OMGOODNESS Kat you are my hero, you look so good it’s unbelievable! Although you matching Phillip gave me the laugh that I needed so much today.
Spectacular!! Ardmore is incredible! Thank you Stephanie!
I like your mini road trips. 🦋
I think it would be amazing to put some statue's in the gardens to, like the one on your veranda. 😍
Sounds great! Are these books still in publication and available in the USA?
@@karleinegraham446 I wouldn't have thought so, but Amazon lists some paperback editions of it. I still have my US edition from 1977!
I know Burglar Bill! My Mum read the books to us as children! Also I am from Zimbabwe - the home of Patrick Mavros! Love their silver creations and jewelry! Such an artistic family!
I'm overwhelmed! Such beautiful things to see all packed into one video. Thanks so much for sharing your passion for beautiful things.
Please tell me you have plans to show more work 🙏
Oh these are the creators of the vase in your dining room!
The mulberry colored jacket looks beautiful on your mother. That is definitely one of her best colors!
Stephane So Lovely To See Your Kat & Isabelle Percy Davey. Phillip Is Very Good Young Man Full of confidence💕💝
the driving on to the train that goes under the sea; so interesting.
i love art festivals and gardens festivals.❤❤❤
the naughty monkey tea pot is creative.
Loved coming with you on your travels Stephanie and Philip. I feel I've been to London, Paris and Framlingham with you guys. Oh what fun we had 😂. Can't wait for our next trip out. Sending love from Rosie O 🌹from Devon England 👏🇬🇧. X
such gorgeous ceramics and fabrics and yes that is the best loo i have ever seen!!
I love your family! They are so warm and welcoming. You are such a lucky woman!
Loved seeing Cat and Davy again. Philip and you also. Isabel and Percy and your aunt and uncle and of course Scottman
Thank you for another wonderful adventure! The Ardmore fabrics took my breath away, so beautiful! 😀 xxx
Great Vlog!
I'm very happy you introduced us to Ardmore. It's just stunningly beautiful artwork!
Cross language / cross cultural misunderstanding are often the funniest.
The classic British comedy Mind You Language comes to mind !!
Well how glorious was that !!! And Love the Ardmore designs ✨✨💝💝
What an enchanted life you’ve created for yourself ❤️🇨🇦
Kat is my 'across the pond wine sister' LOVE Sauvignon Blanc!!
Lots of love and hugs, Jilly & Madge the rescue greyhound, from a hot and sunny (for a change) West Devon, England. xxx
What a lovely trip thank you for sharing! Your family is so charming and of course I'm totally team Philip😊
Ooooh that was a fantastic vlog Stephanie.....so much going on. Thanks. Sandi x
Wonderful couple of days with you two. Thanks for the trip and much love 🥰
We have lived like paupers for so long! 😂😂😂
29:22
get some sleep!!!
great to see Cat👍🏾 and look forward to seeing your Mother and Persey 😃
Great video ❤ I love the Ardmore collections they are truly incredible. Thanks for sharing ❤
What a Fun Adventure!! As Always!!
Can't wait to see the fountain in place 🙌😍
With so much space for gardening at Lalande, it will be so nice to have Hostas all over under the trees. They love shade and there are 70 species with more than 3000 varieties with beautiful folliage.
So nice to see everyone. Beautiful store. Beautiful fountain. Enjoyed. Love to all ❤
Thankyou so much for showing us the garden progress. ❤ I can’t believe how well it’s all coming along. I wish I was a fly on the wall when Mummy saw the lawn though!
Oh my word! The garden is so beautiful!!
Beauty, beauty, everywhere…and everyone.💐💕
Another wonderful vlog. So nice to see everyone. Thank you for taking us to the Chelsea flower show. So much beauty on display. I have been using the Babble App to learn French in the hope of coming to LaLande one day. I can’t wait to see the new fountain in place. The Ardmore exhibit was stunning. I can see the elephant toile at the chateau 🙌❤️
Best video to date! Loved it. 👏🌺
My favorite meal! pasties and digestive cookies! The upper peninsula in Michigan is known for its pasties. Digestive cookies work in a pinch for s'mores.
Thank you for an excellent video. The South Aftican designs are extraordinary
You should make use of their LaLande-inspired toile in your upcoming bamboo room
Loved every minute Stephanie I almost thought I was there with you. Loved it thank you.
What a feast for the eyes. Thank you so much for sharing. Glad you made it home. Xx
I remember your cousin watering those plants & hedges quite regularly & with his contraption he made to hold all of the water.
