LOL Boy things sure have changed over the years. Bought my G0462 about 10-15 years ago. Mine came in a heavy duty cardboard box that was pretty banged up. Lots of dense foam luckily protected everything. I agree 100% about the articulated "banjo" or tool rest. I would recommend, as did you, that it never be used. Also, the cam locks on the tool rest will become problematic over time. All of mine have been replaced with heavy duty versions that I found at J.W. Winco. These can also been found at McMaster-Carr. Also, from time to time, check on the centrifugal clutch speed and belt assembly. My lathe seemed to be giving up a few RPMs and a little vibration started occurring. As a precaution and as some regular maintenance after owning the lathe for a period of time, I just decided to spend a few dollars and "make it right." I overkilled the new adjustable tension lock levers, but I wanted something bullet proof. My lathe gets a lot of use. LOL I'm positive and found cheaper lever locks at both companies but this is what I chose. Grizzly needs to improve these small items and a few other ill fitting pieces of hardware on the G0462. I spoke with a Grizzly rep (most of my major machines are all Grizzly) and they said that they would take my recommendation into consideration and speak with their supplier. Since I don't plan (currently) on buying another lathe ever again, I hope they make some small and inexpensive improvements to the G0462. It's a very good lathe for the money. My next upgrade or improvement to my G0462 will be a complete tool rest redesign. Nothing aftermarket will fit in the 15/16 inch or whatever size hole. This is the hole in the "banjo" that the tool rest(s) get inserted into. Most aftermarket tool rest mounts are 1 inch in diameter. Another "con" of the Grizzly G0462. Overall, one of the best machines in my shop. Purchased - J.W. Winco GN300.5-78-M10-20-AS-LEVER STAINLESS EXTERNAL HEX SCREW - $27.33 ea. www.jwwinco.com/en-us/products/2.1-Clamping-assembly-onoff-switching-via-levers/Adjustable-hand-levers-tension-levers/GN-300.5-Stainless-Steel-Adjustable-Levers-Matte-Shot-Blasted-Finish-Threaded-Stud-Type#l1%3Dc(78)%3Bd1%3Du(710a9270-426e-4e2e-b953-571ed788524f)%3Bl2%3Dc(20)%3BForm%3Du(4561d8c4-1b7c-4f9b-b17a-ffd2aa9636e6) www.jwwinco.com/en-us/home www.mcmaster.com/
Another item that I spoke with Grizzly about was the the head stock wrench. A few dollars more and a little bit more of a thicker piece of steel would make the wrench 100% better. I had my brother (fabricator) make one and I don't use the stock wrench anymore.
Is this the exact same lathe as the Shop Fox W1758? Specs are the same except shipping weight is 377 lbs.vs. 354 lbs on the Grizzly. The price is lower by $55 and the warranty is 2 years. And I believe the parent company owns both.
Please tell me where you found the Shop Fox 1758 for $55.00 less than the Grizzly G0462. I found the Grizzly on their home page for $775. I found it at Home Depot for $775 and Woodcraft sells the Shop Fox 1758 for $924 and Ebay sells it for $968. It definitely looks the same other than being white instead of green
UH That like saying a Corvette is the same as malibu, just a different motor, chassis and body ...LOL No comparison between Grizzly and HF . That said, I am a fan of both brands, Both have end users that need one or the other.

How this been holding up all these years
I'm buying this lathe in April for turning big stuff but because I also do pens I need to know what size mandrels and other chucks it takes. Thanks
What's the longest piece of wood this lathe can handle? Interested in making spindles for stairs and rails
Thank you for the video, I'm considering this lathe..

Yes, it is the same machine. I own the Shop Fox and I really do like it. Plenty of power and capacity for what I do.

Is this a good lathe. Think about getting it.
Same as the half of the price Harbor Freight 12 x 33 or 12 x 36 lather, with different motor, stand and tail stock, or the more expensive Jet.
Not sure how you can compare harbor freight to the grizzly brand.
@@raycausley764 You can't :-)
