LOL. At the price for new ammo, it doesn't take a lot of rounds to start. New, I can get for $2.50-$3.00 per round. (A bit more for tracer or incindiary rounds) I can reload for @ 80 cents a round and a lot more accurate.
@@trbig67 how much is a good reloading setup? Not discouraging your frugalness just wondering just how much I need to shoot before I start to see a return on investment. P.S. I know reloading is half the fun!
@Guitargreat As stated, that is what I pay to reload my ammo. BUT... I had to buy in bulk to get that price. Several thousand bullets. I had to buy the powder 48 lbs at a time. It's reclaimed military powder for $8 a pound. I saw 3 auctions on a gun site for the primers. Each auction was 1250 primers, which are normally @ 35 cents a piece, but are now closer to 50 cents. We were headed out on vacation so I put a ridiculously low bid on all 3 auctions. When I came back, I found out I won all 3, so 3750 primers for 8 cents a piece. So, that's how I have the price so low.
@@Aldenco99 I don't even remember. I just bought a piece here, a piece there. I have been reloading for most of my adult life, but when I bought the 50 cal, not a single thing I owned would work on the 50. But on the flip side, the 50 cal press has an adapter so I can use it to load everything else I have. Right now, everything is gone into the insane price range. I just saw 2 boxes of 525 count Remington Golden bullet .22 rimfire bullets go for $315. Small pistol primers are unobtainium right now.
Would you reload them in that exact order? Or would you set your tools and dyes up for de-priming, and de-prime all your rounds, then your re-priming, etc?

You look like the janitor at my old school, not that that’s a bad thing. He was one of my favorite people at that gosh forsaken school. He was one of the nicest, most understanding, down to earth, and chill guys.
I've been reloading for over 30 years, I bought a 50 and THEN realized... absolutely nothing I had been using for reloading will work with the 50 BMG. It's just too big. All new stuff. I had to buy powder/primers/bullets in bulk, but I can reload at @ 80 cents per round, with 220gr of the powder I am using, but that's pulled/sized API (Armor piercing incindiary) bullets. New M33 ball FMJ (Full metal jacket) bullets are a bit more. But it's not too bad since you don't generally go to the range and shoot hundreds of times like an AR. I think the most we've ever shot at one time was with several people that wanted to shoot it a time or two. Maybe put 25 rounds down range. I now have an annealing machine for the case necks and only neck size the brass for reloads. (Bolt action rifle). This lets me get a lot more re-uses out of the brass. Brass alone for the 50 can be expensive. Thank you for the videos.
Seems like a bit of a long process but also looks like a ton of fun. And hey, 50 BMG, what more do you need to say... I save all my brass and hope to get the equipment to start reloading one day. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you man. When I see your video I feel that I may buy a press, matrics and just start to learn reloading from scratch. Really thank you for peaceful and extremely helping video :). Loving it. I will also reload but will start with smaller calibers. But yours .50 its extremely money saving and also pure "man" mechanic work.
Excellent thanks! Gettin this exact setup. I have everything 50 BMG related except the dang press lol. Currently I reload all my other calibers on the Lee Classic Turret but it won't do 50 BMG!
Well done video thanks. I reload .380s/.38spl/9mm &.44 magnums. Using a Forester single stage press I weigh each & every load, sure it takes more time but I know exactly what I've got using a digital scale. Might have been interesting to know your cost for components versus factory loads.
I hope you don't buy your 50 bmg powder in one pound containers all the time? I load 5.56 and I go threw a pound in a heart beat and your going threw it near 10 times as fast!
One question: In order to reload faster, did you think about looking for a small container that holds the exact quantity of gunpowder that you need to reload the round instead of using a scale to do that? I mean: You got the container for the gunpowder that if you fit it to the edge you have the exact g of gunpowder that you need, you clean everything that is over the edges with a rod, etc, a quick test on the scale for security and it is done. On this try you spend 25s with the measurement, with the other system ( if it is possible, maybe there is another issues) you could do it in like 5-6 seconds. A big difference. greetings!
HumA As I understand it you only measure black powder by volume, not smokeless. I hear that it isn't nearly as accurate as going by weight, then again I've never tested it
That is why I add the "quick test on the scale for security". There is a couple of physical factors, like the quantity of air between the grains, that can affect the measure so a quick test can prevent for that problem.
You can measure smokeless powder by volume. Most powder measures such as those found on progressive presses measure by volume. You just keep adjusting the volume of powder it drops until it drops that weight (charge) you were wanting. Lee even sells yellow measuring spoons that are marked in CCs, and are used for powder measuring based on their data. You could absolutely make a tool like what you're describing (you basically described a custom Lee measuring spoon). It would take a little messing around with to get just right, but it's certainly doable. You could not use it with different powders because they have different densities and would give you different powder charges than what you originally wanted, but if you have ONE powder and ONE charge weight that you want to use, you could do it.
@@samhouston1288 Yes, I don't know where he got that, but progressive reloading presses use volumetric measurement. Once I set the powder bar, I test it 10x, and if I've got it set to 5.40 gr, it will stay within +/-0.05 gr. (5.35-5.45 gr.)
This is actually something I needed to know. I just picked up a barrett and will more than likely be reloading my own rounds.... that's about the only way I'm going to be able to afford to feed this thing.

Question on Lee Classic for 50 BMG and others... As it compares to RCBS at the botthom of the stroke on RCBS, the stroke has a "cam over mechanism" which the Lee does not. Looking it over it seems to me that grinding off all or part of the 2 small stops on the mechamism arms that this "cam over" on the Lee can be achieved. Have you ever looked at this?
