Ugh... People hating on the song, but they don't understand the meaning of it. Shes taking selfies because she's going through a bad time and just wants someone to notice her and tell her, "Hey, you're pretty." I admit it isn't a 5-star classic, but it's a pretty good song with a good meaning behind it. I know everyone has their own opinion, but I just wish people would use their brains as well while making one.

I know this song may seem stupid at first, it did to me like who makes a song about selfies but It actually has a good meaning, "selfies; the life we want to show you" it's about how people only put up pictures of the way they want to be perceived on the internet. No one shares the bad things about their lives.

I know girls who take picture of theirselves looking happy and having a great time, when the reality of their lives is that they are feeling misserable, but they like the attention they get when people like their pictures. Their real feelings hide behind these pictures. I think the song is describing those girls. So this song does makes sense.

I'm not even sure why almost every 'hate' commets are saying that the topic of this song is stupid, but she's just taking a stand about how we create a perfect and happy and amazing life to ourselves via internet and social media. That every time when we post a new selfie, about what we are doing or something, we want to be noticed and create an illusion that our lives are full of life and everything, even, when they are not.

I wrote this track during the recent Cats & Carbonara tour with my bassist when we were discussing how when people feel a bit low about themselves they often take pictures of them looking happy, feeling good, out with friends or doing cool things. Then posting them online to perhaps make themselves feel better or sometimes to try and make the person that’s let them down know what they are missing. I’ll put my hands up and say I’ve done it myself. Some people would call it attention seeking and immature, others would say what’s the harm in trying to feel good about yourself and for most of us it’s perhaps just a bit of innocent fun. It’s something I’m noticing people doing more and more and all of a sudden ‘selfies’ has exploded in to this word that everyone uses and talks about. I guess social networks have made it easy for us to express ourselves and give us the ability to live our lives through a kind of ‘fake reality’. A lot of us only put up what we want to show everyone, meaning people don’t see the not so great parts of our lives too. I think what i’m trying to get across in this song and video is that even though some people’s lives seem great on the internet, we are all human at the end of the day and nobody’s life is perfect. Selfies for me most of the time are just a bit of fun and I hope that’s reflected in the video, hope it makes you smile :)

You people that think this is about just taking selfies just don't get it... It's about insecurities and having to take these pics just to reassure yourself that people like you/are jealous of you. Terrific song, Nina, captures this generation perfectly.
