I like short rides and long rides. It's nice to get out on the bike every day, which are the short rides. But it's also nice to do a really long ride and just completely disconnect from the world and focus on pedaling.
I do a ride every morning to the grocery store. I buy my groceries one back pack at a time. That is the impetus to purpose the daily rides. Not long but every day. I also gave up the car during covid and love it.
Commuting to work isnt easy, and most people make a million excuses why it isnt viable, but ive been doing it since last October, and I look forward to every ride in AND every ride home, and there’s something to be said for that.
Congrats Bro on the Engagement 😁 I’m trying to ride everyday but the weather bums me out sometimes, Especially this damn 30mph gusts and a constant 15mph headwind, And lower 40 upper 30’s morning commute, Feels like my knees are aging faster than ever. But yeah, glad I have a 6 miles commute everyday, now I just have to add more miles to try to get improvements. 😁
Hey, Zach, I follow you on Strava and have often wondered why you post, or record, seemingly short rides. Well, now I know! Very good take on the benefits of trying to ride every day. Cheers!
I used to ride every day to work for a couple of years, even when I had my car. I've been feeling discouraged to continue commuting by bike recently since my current job is 14 miles out and soon 21 miles for my next job. I have to remember that the district I live in is actually bike accessible and I can reach most shopping and exploring within a 15 minute ride. Thank you for the video! I am going to try to ride more enjoyably instead of forcing myself to make long, grueling rides. I'm always inspired whenever I tune into you, Zach!
I ride fixed 6km everyday. I don't have a driving licence. Some roads are gravel dirt paths. I use studded tyres in winter. Most people just drive their cars.
Congratulations on your engagement! Speaking of cycling, I used to be a weekend warrior (albeit I only went about 5-10 kms every ride 😂) and one day I felt like I needed more. And ever since I decided to use my bike more for my commute to the bicycle shop I work at, I've been feeling better! It's way shorter at 7 kms round trip but IDGAF!
I'm a lot older than you and everyone tells me I look young and happy. I alwasy say it's the bike-high. Thanks for spreading the word young brother and congrats!
i'm probably riding less than 10 miles a day for my daily nonsense--but it makes the longer weekend rides feel so great! i get stuck in the same routine on the same roads, but then, wham! i can go on a nice, longer ride that i needed all of that silly, shorter conditioning for anyway.
I grok this. My first fixed gear is a Wabi (built from parts and an early frame found online). Just recently put it all together. I know Richard S. from 1979 or so, and I believe he founded Wabi after his years of owning local shops in NC and then working with his family at Performance. These Wabi frames are sweet.
I don't own a car anymore and haven't for the last 10 years. I ride every day and honestly have no idea (nor care) how far I ride each week. I can do 100 miles in a day and I've done a few 400 mile multi day rides but the daily rides are what keeps my head clear.
I think you could say that to get the best results, best benefits from cycling, it has to be a kind of a lifestyle deal. Weekend rides where it's going to probably be far less distance than what you initially expressed, doesn't make it lifestyle. More like a special occasion. For me it's rare to not get in some ride every day even though that one ride may be a trip and back to the store with a backpack full of groceries, or it may be a 25 minute ride on the hybrid up and down some hills around here. Sometimes it's based on getting in distance running primarily on a day, which has become my alternate to cycling. But you're right, lots of the faces I see riding, I only see on a Saturday or Sunday. Never Mon-Fri in the early AM.
Every single time i heard "ride my bike every single day" in this video part of me was low-key waiting for the reasonably dangerous bit while i knew damn well it wasn't coming 😂😂
I thought this was about the height of the rider lol. I’m pretty short and once at a bike shop the guy working there told me I had the perfect build for cycling. Anyway, yeah going for a daily short rides is great! I don’t commute by bike anymore but it was the best.
Congrats my brother!🎉. I bought first bike, and it's a fixie because of your cool video. Surprisingly my squats felt stronger and form is better after i started cycling everyday for a few months.
There are some physiological adaptations that require long rides. Not everything can be compensated for by frequency, so even if the total weekly volume is the same, the adaptations between the weekend warrior and the commuter will be slightly different. Does it matter, though? Probably not, unless you are racing (or doing ultra-endurance events). And even then, the weekend warrior is much more likely to skip a ride because life get's in the way, which will then leave him with longer pauses than necessary or desirable - and leving him in danger of giving up on riding entirely. The daily commuter is much more likely to be consistent in his exercise. And the daily commuter, too, can go on a long(ish) weekend ride, if he so wants... meaning he will likely get more total volume in average. And while this will not be the most efficient form of a training plan, and the daily commuter mght even lack behind a hypothetical someone following a more structures approach with the same total volume, he will still be far better off than anybody that only goes for the "worthwile" rides and then misses a couple of them. To quote a wise man: ride your bike, ride your bike, ride your bike.
Out here with the casual marriage announcement no biggie. Also congrats. I just ride everywhere esp since I’m also a car less person so it’s how I get around besides going out for a ride for exercising.cycling helps me with my depression also so I get that.
I also think riding every day is very fulfilling. I am riding my xc bike every day and built up my own fixed gear which i now want to ride more often. It feels really good to ride except for one thing: when i ride with no hands the bike tilts to the left like it wants to make a turn. Does anyone have an idea where that come from? I think my wheel is pretty straight in the dropouts.
I used to ride every day I bought it couple years ago just to escape from world and have a break after all the hassle and working all day We we're going through pregnancy So i was with my wife And soon going back to riding Can't wait
10 minute rides are for either kids or old people who can't make a mile to store or post office. Daily rides are important but they take more like 30-60 minutes in case of dedicates rides, but I just use bicycle as a transportation instead of bus or taxi. Weekend rides are more a way to separate from family, daily duties and be alone, or with riding buddies if you prefer riding in a group.
Been riding my bicycle almost daily since I was 16 and am now 48, lol, never owned a car either. Gotta do twenty yrs to catch up, 💯
That's awesome! Do you ride fixed?
@@mikemiddaugh7610 hell no
Congratulations on your engagement! I to cycle everyday instead of being the weekend mileage junkie of past
Yes! That’s great for Zach G!

I’m going to try this!

Congrats Bro on the Engagement 😁

I'm already pretty good with this but thanks to this video I'm motivated to ride to the hardware store today rather then drive.
It saves you money that way too, and I’m not talking about saving gas money…
I ride fixed 6km everyday. I don't have a driving licence. Some roads are gravel dirt paths. I use studded tyres in winter. Most people just drive their cars.
What a great topic Zach, and I couldn't agree more. Get out there!
I noticed a boost after exercise to my mental wellness too, post hike, ride or walk. It must be good for us.
Congratulations on your engagement!

6:30 I agree. I commute to work and whenever I chose to be lazy and take public transportation instead, I always regret it later on.
Congrats on your engagement Zach
CONGRATS 🎉!!!

Super Congrats on your Engagement !!! Are you going to Chi-town ??? Another great point on cycling as many days per week as possible !!!
Congratulations on the engagement.
Will you two track stand while giving your vows?
Congrats my brother!🎉. I bought first bike, and it's a fixie because of your cool video. Surprisingly my squats felt stronger and form is better after i started cycling everyday for a few months.

The picture with you and your fiancé, but you’re doing the “mirror selfie” is hilarious to me.
Congratulations Zach

20 miles this morning as the sun came up? It works and I work better when I get to the office.

40 miles a week? That's just the work commute...
I’m happy I live close enough to ride to work everyday pretty much
Agree. Been riding at least 30 miles a day for the past 3 years and now I can’t go a day without riding
I usually do 13-15 miles a day, except in the winter.
Nice thought :)
track stand math, now we talkin
The daily riders need the weekend warriors so we can pick up their used, almost pristine bikes for cheap.
Steel to aluminium fork is there a confort difference?
Yes, with aluminum you will feel the road more.
Congrats 💍 - yeah, bikes 🙌🏻
I used to ride every day
I bought it couple years ago just to escape from world and have a break after all the hassle and working all day
We we're going through pregnancy
So i was with my wife
And soon going back to riding
Can't wait
Congrats.
As someone who rides their bike to work, thisnis the way. Weekends are meant for resting.
Been watching your videos since you were single ..congrats on the engagement Godbless
Bicycle guy meets a girl.
Right-on Zach! Congrats!
What do you consider a short ride in terms of time? Half an hour?
when you do not own a car you have no choice but to cycle everyday 2020 was the year cycling saved my life
upload 2 of asking for fixie point video again
Good stuff
Congrats. I just got my Mustang, I love it but I do miss my bike. Gonna try to get mt wife to ride with me. Wondering if your future wife rides too?
Having kids and an office job wrecked my daily riding.

Some of us don't have friends, let alone a financé Zach.
46/13 is good gear ratio?
No way to big you can already get to nice speeds with a 46/17 or maybe 16 if you live in a flat area
Bike to work gang let's go!
Long rides are better because going further opens up more options on where you can go.
What's the bike?
ℂ𝕆ℕ𝔾ℝ𝔸𝕋𝕌𝕃𝔸𝕋𝕀𝕆ℕ𝕊 Zach❕

Did I get the first comment?

Short rides are better? That’s cuz you too weak to do long rides.
