That's why been trying to save up for a Fujifilm digital camera. I’ve been shooting film for almost 3 years now and it’s been getting more and more expensive plus with the global shortage of 35 mm colour negative films I really want to invest in a digital camera now.
I find DR400 to also give a really nice grain effect by itself :) Subtler than any actual grain effects, but enough to give the image a bit of character (when shooting at ISO 640).
Damn! I’ve always struggled with the color simulations on Fujifilm. Not that they don’t look good, but they’re maybe 80% of the way that I’d like them to be. Excited to give these a try.
My experience is that you should experiment with the Fujifilm sims like Da King and said especially with X trans 2 sensor camera like the X PRO 1 or X-E2.
This looks completely different on the newer sensors, still a great recipe overall though. Definitely want to see a updated version for the newer sensors and see your take on any changes you make
Great video! Quick question: is it possible to see a preview of the film simulation on the viewfinder/glass on the x100f? When I shoot a video, I constantly see everything I shoot in a film simulation, but when I want to take a photo and look through the viewfinder, I don't see the film simulation. Is that normal? I would love it if I could see the film simulation all the time to know exactly what the photo will look like. Thanks for your help.
Hey guys, I'm new to the Fuji world and had one question regarding recipes. I bought a 2nd hand x100f and this comes with the film simulation of course. My question is: for adding recipes, do they go "on top" of the film simulations? or do they recipes go somewhere else, on this custom settings part? I'm afraid of deleting the default ones that come with the camera and not use the recipes... Not sure if I'm explaining myself but would appreciate some help.
In general: - Slightly overexpose - reduce contrast in postprocessing - add grain in postprocessing if you like it Film simulation: Classic Chrome Grain Effect: Off Dynamic Range: 400 White Balance: 5000kelvin, red +1, blue -4 (warm days), blue -6 (cooler days) Higlight Tone: 0 Shadow Tone: -2 Color: +2 Sharpness: -2 Noise reduction: -4
Your HP5 recipe would be interesting to see. I currently have a Tri-X on my X100F. Just loaded your Portra 400 on it and will try it out in the next few days.
Hi! I'm new to Fujifilm and I can't seem to save WB adjustments for custom film recipes. For example, when I want to create Recipe C1 based on FujiX Weekly I set my white balance to Sunny R+2 B-2. But when I want to create Recipe C2 I want to set white balance to Sunny R0 B+2, but the first custom recipe already has the WB shift set. Is there any way to set WB correction for custom recipes?
One thing I noticed that film simulation struggles to emulate from film is the color bleed from sharp edges. If you're ever able to compare the same photograph of something using both film and digital (even with film simulation), look at the edges of buildings or signs. You should be able to see a slight diffusion of color as one element transitions to the other. The overall softness and diffusiveness of film is the biggest hurdle digital film simulation has currently.
well shot film is as crisp as digital... what you're talking about (color fringing) only happens on bad lenses, especially if you're shooting wide open
Please help someone!!! For some reason when I try edit a recipe it’s not allowing me to edit everything I need to?? Like GE it won’t let me and the others?? Please help
Thanks, Jvpes, as usual, you're the man - your videos are actually useful guides and to the point. Coming from film I really love Fuji and these recipes - so I adjusted my C4 button to this setting, and I'm experimenting with my video for this is well. I love the Portra look. Next I'm going to look for a Kodachrome recipe.
Thank you for this video. Is it preferable to use ISO 400 for the simulation? And what is the best way to make it a bit less warm (for portraiture)? Thanx again!
Hi Jvipes; I have learned a lot from your videos. Thank you!!! I do have a question. Why are my fotos made with my 26 megapixels Fujifilm X100V camera only maximum 17 to 18 megapixels? (Set with image size: L, and image quality: fine) Is this the maximum for JPEGs? Or, how do I get the maximum 26 megapixels out of my camera?
man I could watch fuji recipes videos all day long *_* I own a xt30 and i love how you can always find a new recipes and fall in love with it! Nice Video btw! Really enjoyed the content! worth a follow for sure!
Sweet, I love the look of portra 400, but it's definitely pretty damn pricey. I've slowly grabbed 2 boxes so I could photograph my cousin's wedding and other family events but would love to eventually try seeing if I can achieve that look digitally. thanks for this tutorial
Thank you for sharing this recipe! Going to try this out over the weekend. Do you have a recipe for a cool look, sharp blues and green? Enjoy your channel, great topics!
If I use these film settings to make videos does it mean I don’t need to bother doing colour grading in post production? If so is Fuji a better brand for film making than Sony?
Hey - thank you so much for all your great work on these recipes. I'm in love with my new X-E1 and wish Fuji would revive that sensor. I came across an awesome Interpretation of Portra 400 there which is based on pro neg high (don't like color chrome - mostly boring). I spend the day trying to mimic that result on the x100v - it is unbelievable how different the base settings need to be if you want to achieve the same results. It comes down to whitebalalance a lot and color saturation. Whereas the xe-1 only needs a - 1 redshift - the x100v needed a +3 redshift (x-e1 is at 6300k, x100v is at 6700) and plus 3 color setting. It's all about the warmth these newer sensors are missing. Pretty happy with the result though. Have you had similar experiences?
Great video, question. For the recipes how many can you store in camera? Confused about saving it under the c7 spot. I already have a recipe saved under c7, do I add this new one under a diff custom mode? How many of these can I add? Thx
I highly recommend DxO PhotoLab with FilmPack 6. Great film sims, amazing camera body sims and they now even have Fuji digital Film sims. I love the CCD Colors straight out of my OG Sony A100, and I apply the A100 sim to my Leica M240 files and it’s really really close.
Heck yeah, this video was extremely helpful. Got a xt30 during 2020 Covid and haven’t used it much until now. Glad I found this. Once I have those things put into the camera, is there a way I can save it? I’m still extremely new to photography
Yes, there is. All you have to do is scroll through the I.Q. menu, press save custom setting, select one, press edit, and then program the settings into it.
Hi Jvpes, Super nice video. I’m normally using Astia as default, now compared to this simulation it seems almost artificial and cold😂 could you pause a little longer on your own photos of talk more over them or do a dias show at the end of the video. They are so nice and gives a bit of feel good atmosphere when watching these videos as therapi in a busy world😂

Whats the iso?
Saved me 10 minutes
On Fujifilm weekly the WB Is 5200k. 👍🏼👍🏼
You mixed up red and blue. Red +1 and blue -6
I have an XT-20. Can’t wait to use try this film simulation! Also, I would love to see the other film simulations you use!
It is always a good idea to set noise reduction to -4 in Fuji cameras. Grain is beautiful !
I have a similar recipe but i use Pro neg standard and Daylight +2 -4
I chose pro neg especially because of the contrast you talk about in the video
Care to share your full settings?
ohh can you share the recipe pls

I've found an X-Pro 1 for 50 euros and it's still a BOMB💪
Deal of the Century!
you're so lucky :) .... below 350 bucks there's nothing here in Germany
Maccome??? Zio Billy che fortuna!

DR400 should require at least ISO 800
Xtrans4 and greater at ISO 640, the sensors below are ISO 800 (a very few models might break this rule)@@unkr3at1v

Just got an x100v, will try this out. Some other film recipes like Ilford would be awesome. Cheers!
YES MAKE A VIDEO WITH YOUR FUJI RECEPIES AND MAYBE EXPLAIN IN WHAT SITUATIONS U USE THEM OR CONDITION OF LIGHT AND COLORS
I got XT-20 recently. I am going to try it out soon :)

Love this portra! I was wondering if you can make a recipe based on Kodak Ultramax?
I tried it out on my x100F and it's a tad too warm. I do like it better at -4 but it's still a bit too warm. It's really really close though.
Pro 400H would be nice to figure out since you can't get it in 35mm anymore.
Fujixweekly has recipe that’s quite close :)
@@julesrlz thanks, I need to check that out
You're awesome !!! didn't know this tweak even existed in FUJIFILM X-T200 !!! Its so amazing what you can really do with your FujiFilm !!!
were you able to achive this film recipe on XT200?
Hey guys, I'm new to the Fuji world and had one question regarding recipes. I bought a 2nd hand x100f and this comes with the film simulation of course. You have just changed classic chrome. Then what? Do you save it? Is classic chrome now changed forever?
In general:

Thank you for this presentation ... it works with the X100V?
Trying this with my fujifilm x100f thank you!!!
Did it work?
Gotcha, do these settings then fix everything in lightroom.. Great recipe.
Your HP5 recipe would be interesting to see. I currently have a Tri-X on my X100F. Just loaded your Portra 400 on it and will try it out in the next few days.
can u release one for portra 160? I saw a bunch of videos but it honestly doesn't come close to me!
I’m still waiting for the Kodachrome recipe 😔 0:59
Can you save white balance in your simulations for Xpro2?
I have an XF10 - Would this work the same?
Amazing ! Thank you for sharing!!
Going to try this recipe on my upcoming Seattle trip thanks!

I have the x100f and it can only save one white balance at a time. The V can save multiple from my understanding.
Unable to set the Dynamic Range to 400. It’s greyed out for me
Thanks you!! Another question: what microphone do you use for your videos ?
Does the lens that you use affects or change this recipe look? Im using the 15-45mm kit that comes with camera and it does not look good 😢

Hello bro, XT 30 ii can do this? Bcs i hv setting color chrome effect and color chrome FX blue
Great, do you have Kodak royal gold 400 recipe?
Hi hope your well. Could you kindly drop your film recipe you used in this and any other you would recommend especially for portraits thanks
Is there no custom option on xt100?
Can recipes be done on x100s?
I'm using an X-E1 so my camera doesn't have Classic Chrome, would Pro Neg standard be the closest?
Can anybody tell me which Lens and squarehood we can see on his camera in the video at 3:10 ? Thank you guys
Yhea please make a video on the other film stocks!!! I would love that😁
Thanks for sharing, and yes please for sharing your film recipes, KJ! Much appreciated! 😀
do you recommend this or adjusting for the X-H2S?
Legend for this. Hyped to give it a shot on my XPro2
can this be also used in fujifilm x-a3? thanks!

Sounds like you are digitally zoomed in with the 50 and 70 zoom
Check to see if the files are MB or MP

damn it, just as i thought i was over the fuji GAS, you come out and show me this. damn you and your sexy jpeg colors
My dynamic range only lets me do 100% why is this ?
Set ISO to 800, then it should work
I love your videos. Man I tried going your on your IG for some reason I show as blocked ? Idk

more on this camera-that's not a request- it's an order

nice
My recipe is using Portra 400
You are missing one of the most important parts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

whuuut?? tell me your secret

Honestly think this isnt really similar to Portra, would say its missing a bit of clarity.
