This is happening in Ukraine at the moment. So us Finn's, we understand. Same enemy, same story. Slava Finland, Slava Ukraine. And yes, we know that some of those who attached with Russia in Finland in 1939 was actually also Ukrainians. But we understand that they did not have choice at the moment. It was Russia. It was Russia then and it is Russia now. So Ukrainians has all our sympathies.
people in the world do not understand what we have sometimes had to experience. thank you veterans' legacy 💙 if everyone could understand where it all came from
My dads family was owned as serf over 300 years, until 1670 we bought up our freedom. Many us Karelians was sold as slaves during the mid evil times and into late 1800s. So yea, we've suffered a lot for the centuries, but as a Karelian my happiness will still remains. That we how we work. Always have a positive attitude towards people. Even how bad the situation, so they cannot take away my people own fighting sprit. We've Karelian is always happy. No matter what.
Finland lost 11% of its lands and its second biggest city to the Soviet Union, 11% of the Finns (Karelians) lost their homes and spread around Finland. My grandfather was 4 years old when they evacuated the first time, his strongest memory was when they ate frozen potatoes under a bridge.
Composer lyricist Veikko Lavi was a master to do songs about the small ordinary people and was always on point and reality with his stories. Many, I suppose was really the reality he went thru in his life or witnest by his own eyes. Would be worth if there would be translations of his couplets, they truly are pure geniosity no were they sad or funny side of life, always verbally true diamond just like this one. Sadly i've not found any and my enlish is too weak to even try.
Tears of Karelian tribes who was forced to leave their precious beautiful homeland of thousands of years, will newer end 💔😢. Half of my family is from Karelia. Thank you for sharing our pain in the our hearts Esther ❤

I admire your perseverance and determination. That's the spirit 🙌 💪
Do a reaction of the song from my people, the Karelian Isthmus folksong "Kannaksen Poikia". :D

Oh no!
Bless your granddad and all those who lost one thing or the other ♥️
Finland 1939 and Ukraine 2022 it's sad. My mom's two brothers died in the war against Russia. They were young men 22 and 26. They both died 1943.
So sad
Bless their souls 🙏

Well said 👌
"The theme for the song was given to Lavi by his longtime accompanist Pertti Husu, who once told Lavi his evacuee story on a concert trip."
