Had the Cobra terror drome when I was a kid- couldn't believe my parents got it for me! Then I couldn't believe a year or two later, my parents gave it ( with all my toys) to the neighbor kid :'( . I'm proud to say that the terrordrome is back (95% complete!) In my possession and I'll never get rid of it!! Your show brings me back to the happiest time of my life ( minus when my kids were born lol) thank you Michael Mercy! COBRAAAAAA!
I had the Real Ghostbusters firehouse. THAT, my friends, was fun. It had a working fire pole, a bright-red Ecto Containment Unit for housing the smaller ghosts that came with the action figures, and a SPACIOUS garage for my Ecto-1. It also came with a plastic jar of "Ecto Plasm" slime you could pour through the roof of the firehouse and, via grates in the floors, ooze it's way through the 3-story playset. My mom threw that part out after discovering it left a permanent stain in the drive way. XD Sadly, it, along with most of the toys I had from the '80s, were lost in a moving accident when I was in high school. I miss my Ghostbusters collection. :-(
Awesome list, I have gained a lot of love for playsets as I’ve gotten older. Now they litter my house! My favourite probably being the simple LJN WWF Cage with Ring...that had all the magic and adventure I could ever want with King Kong Bundy vs. Hogan and the poor referee in the middle!
I just got one of those rings recently again and the rehab to piece meal it together and clean it real good and apply new decals... was all worth it. it looks better then brand new now!
Became a Patreon today because of this upload. You put so much heart into your videos and they exude a wholesomeness I don't see much nowadays. THANK YOU!
I was a 90s kid and my top 5 would have ben these (I added one more for good measure) 1. The Gargoyles Castle 2. Robin Hood Sherwood Forest 3. Wayne Manor 4. X-MEN Headquarters 5. Lion King Pride Rock 6. Spawn Alley playset
Ones I actually had, and being I was a late 80's kid crossing into the 1990's, my no. 1 feels like it could be a contender for the no. 1 overall spot. 1. Technodrome The Double Decker Mobile Fortress was the ultimate TMNT toy, with two modes of play. One was the rolling tank that looked like a cross between a golf ball an the Death Star from Star Wars on wheels, with machine guns and rock blasters, a rolling eye spy radar, and secret entrances, a spiked sewer lid and ooze pit. The second was was opening hemispheres that revealed the actual playset itself and the inner workings of the Foot Clan's headquarters. There was the Shredder's command console, with molded seat and sticker details that lined the console and targeting screens, and just below that was the torture chamber, a swivel spout would move back and forth, dripping retromutagen ooze (sold seperately) all over your trapped victim. Moving over to the next hemisphere, via the lone connector bridge, we have on the top level Krang's control room, with the interdimensional portal to Dimension X (a sticker) and an escape hatch so Krang could make quick getaways down into the weapons amory. The main base houses the jail cell complete with trap door, and manacles to hold your turtle in place. On the base was a disk, fix your prisoner in place with rubber bands, and with a wound spring action once released would spin your turtle till he puked up his Ice Cream and Peanut Butter Pizza. More gunner stations that controlled the rock blasters, and a ships wheel which would release the radar eye ball down onto the turtle attackers complete the terror this fortress had on the TMNT and their good guy mutants.
I know this wasn't in the 80's. In 1977 I was 10 years old and I got the Guns of Navarone playset for Christmas. It was and still is the best thing I ever got for Christmas!
I was never lucky enough to have the USS Flagg, but I did own Castle Greyskull, Snake Mountain, Hordak's Fright Zone and a few others...but BY FAR, my favorite playset of ALL TIME was Boulder Hill from M.A.S.K.... and M.A.S.K. (in my humble opinion) is still the greatest toy line that was ever created. I was able to re-acquire nearly every M.A.S.K. piece as an adult..and then ended up selling them all during the fist boom of Ebay. But this video has me wanting to re-collect them all yet again.
The 2 sets I had as a kid were the Super Powers Hall of Justice and 1989 Batman Batcave and I loved them both. They were heavily played with along with the figures too. Still have the figures but unfortunately had to sell the playsets.
Wish I still had my Castle Greyskull, Snake Mountain and Castle Eternia. Whoever got this from Goowill with all my He-Man figures please thank my aunt. Was a tough day when I got home from school that day.
I think the Mobile Command Center is a great one- similar to the Joe space shuttle complex- it pushed the play value with the "mobile" part. The big lumbering vehicle was just as cool as the base. I'll add one: the only playset I had when I was a kid was the big Death Star playset. I think that's one that still holds up pretty well.
The Defiant never did much for me, so I never think of it when discussing the greatest playsets. On a team that was all about military defence and counter-strikes, the Defiant seemed totally out of place to me, and a big representative of the sci-fi element that made my interest in GI Joe vanish in the 90s.
Nice selection! :) My personal favorites are Snake Mountain and the Turtles sewer, I was lucky enough to have those as a kid. I still have pictures of my dad putting Snake Mountain together and of me playing with the Turtles sewer :)
Just recently picked up an incomplete vintage TMNT sewer playset at a local toyshop. Fun stuff! Hope to track down a few of the missing pieces before doing a video on it.
that laser effect on top of Castle Greyskull was worth the whole video haha! So authentic, great job man, awesome list I will say some missing ones though: Technodrome, Turtle's Sewer Playset, Ghostbusters Firehouse, Death Star, Ewok Village/Robin Hood Sherwood Forest, G.I. Joe The General to name a few...
My top five play sets. (That I actually owned) 1. Castle Grey Skull, although I never could get it as a kid, but got it used at the salvation army when I was in my early teens. 2. Snake Mountain, I got it new one Christmas. 3. Black Star's Ice Castle, I know that one gets bad reviews, but it was my first toy castle. Until one of my friends fell on it and cracked it in half. 4. Hordak's slime pit. 5. Eagle Island of Eagle Force. This one might be more obscure. My Top five play sets.( That I wish I owned.) 1. Fort Max 2. Eternia play set 3. Hordak's Fright Zone 4. U.S.S. Flagg 5. GoBot Command center
Loved the slime pit! So gross and fun! Never seen Black Star's Ice Castle until you mentioned it. That would make a great base for the Thundercats Snowman of Hook Mountain! :D
I have the new Castle Grayskull (MOTU Classics) and the new (Fan Toys Masterpiece) Omega Superme. Both are much more similar to their 80's cartoons versions than the original 80's toys.
That's precisely why I love the new retro releases that have been coming out lately as they've made a lot closer to how they actually looked in the cartoons.
#MichaelMercy, Wow!! I'm trembling like a little kid with excitement and awe just by looking at this video. See, I never owned any of the playsets that you showed here and I would just go to the toy store on my area and stare at them for hours. When it was time to go, I'd tell my mom to let me stare for a few more minutes and then, sadly I'd walk away. Good times, almost brought tears of joy to my eyes. 😂 How did you got 'em & how much did you have to spend? Thank you, by the way and best regards.
Thanks Dave, glad it meant that much to you. I had many visits to the toy store just like yours. I got most of my collection years ago when vintage toys weren't so expensive. I'd never be able to afford them at today's prices.
Michael Mercy I know what you mean! I acquired a GI JOE Shipwreck action figure without any weapons. It cost me about 15 $ at ebay. Then I wanted to buy the weapons, which are almost imposible to find without the action figure, & they are pricier than Shipwreck himself. I'm waiting for someone to have a heart and sell them at a reasonable price, if possible. Lol. Have a great day friend! Btw, the Omega Supreme was a sweet playset. I'm disappointed that it took me this long to want to collect these gems now & not when they were at good prices.
The mcc was one I didn't see coming, seems like it gets passed over by it's bigger cousins. It's crazy you picked it cuz I'm just in talks now with my local retro toy shop about buying one of these complete
Hey Michael Mercy..great video once again. Can you tell me how you got the GI Joe jet pack acrylic fire/ Boost effect add-on? That's not an original 80's accessory correct?
Thanks! It's from a Star Wars Boba Fett figure. It doesn't plug tightly into the J.U.M.P. pack but the pegs do line up with the pack thrusters so it can sit on top pretty well.
Interesting now that I can reflect, but one of, if not the biggest toy lines of the 80s DIDN'T get a playset of its own. I am referring to G1 Transformers. One could argue that Metroplex or Fortress Maximas or Tripticon is a playset as well as a transformer, but we never got a decpticon base, or The Ark or teletran 1 (Though they are both the same I guess) or Cybertron. Size was not perhaps the issue as the figures were not much bigger than MOTU. Who knows, maybe it was just not in the cards.
I guess they thought it would have been a waste of a release, so have a base that didn't transform into something. We all saw how successful transformers that don't transform were in 1990 with Action Masters. :D
The Flag was like an urban legend when I was growing up lol we "heard" about it but no one ever saw one, except that 1 kid that lied about everything. Ya know that 1 kid that "talked" to santaclaus and caught the Easter bunny lol
I had Castle Grayskull and trust me I miss it and I'll do anything to get it back only thing I never had was Snake Mountain I had every action figure every vehicle every weapon consistent from He-Man and GI Joe and they really got in GI Joe but I really wish I did have some figures of it but that flag GI Joe
how come no one build replicas of these gigantic Flagg and shuttle, kinda like Transformers toys where replicas where made into better articulation and build?
Castle Grayskull did seem like it should've been Skeletor's HQs. It was creepy looking but so was Skeletor with that damned ram skull staff of his right in the heart of the Satanic Panic in the US. It was pretty damend cool though! He-Man stuff was also kind of cool because, kind of like Thundarr the Barbarian, there was this cool and odd combo of technology and magic. My brother had an Omega Supreme. Kind of cool but really just a battery powered train toy. They added enough features and lore (the cartoon story of Omega Supreme which was a particular episode) to make it really cool. Quite a unique toy; train-like but it was built as an entire defense system.
Sectaurs huh!? I think I had that playset as a kid but the toys kinda freaked young me out so I think it got sold in a yard sale or something. Never knew what the franchise was till now.
Thaat USS flag was only 110usd at the time. Many new big toy sets cost a lot more and not really look that cool :) I would buy that carrier in a heart beat (for my kids :D )

That firehouse is awesome.
I remember when my dad still had the Mobile Command Center from his child hood. It was one of my favorite play sets.
The Gi joe Space shuttle always looked cool too
Awesome list, I have gained a lot of love for playsets as I’ve gotten older.
Boulder Hill Bunker was the one I always dreamed of having!

Thank you Carl! Nerdmasté! 🙏
I was a 90s kid and my top 5 would have ben these (I added one more for good measure)
1. The Gargoyles Castle
2. Robin Hood Sherwood Forest
3. Wayne Manor
4. X-MEN Headquarters
5. Lion King Pride Rock
6. Spawn Alley playset
i just have to say man you have one of the most clean dope collections i have ever seen
Thanks! Nerdmasté! 🙏
Flagship would definitely make a beautiful coffee table😁 . 80's nostalgia is just the best . Love your work 👍👍 GOD BLESS.
Ones I actually had, and being I was a late 80's kid crossing into the 1990's, my no. 1 feels like it could be a contender for the no. 1 overall spot.
1. Technodrome
The Double Decker Mobile Fortress was the ultimate TMNT toy, with two modes of play. I'm not going to lie if I had your museum I would play with them , at 35 years old
I was never lucky enough to have the USS Flagg, but I did own Castle Greyskull, Snake Mountain, Hordak's Fright Zone and a few others...but BY FAR, my favorite playset of ALL TIME was Boulder Hill from M.A.S.K.... and M.A.S.K. I wish i lived in your room i be playing gi joe all day going to war with my kids.
The most fun kind of war; nobody gets shot and everyone parachutes to safety! :D
Heaven is real, and it's in Canada! :D
The Joes space shuttle was great. Tmnt’s technodrome and one smaller one that i always loved was police academies HQ.
I wouldn't even need a top 5 list there be only one from the 1980s I would want tmnt the Technodrome playset now that was a sweet piece😄
Saw one at a toy show and it was huge!
The big play set I remember having was the big at-at looking command base thing from Go-Bots. I also had Castle Grey-Skull.
What about Filmations Ghost Command probably the rarest of all, I almost got one last year.
The 2 sets I had as a kid were the Super Powers Hall of Justice and 1989 Batman Batcave and I loved them both. They were heavily played with along with the figures too. Still have the figures but unfortunately had to sell the playsets.
I’m not a 90s kid but I still LOVE gi joes!!
Whenever I talk to my dad about stuff like this he always bring up how he was the lucky one and got the castle greyskull
I had Greyskull and Snake Mountain as a kid..and Omega /supreme
I was 4 when I got my first playset castle grayskull for xmas. Maybe that's why I gravitate towards the dark side. Thanks grandma.
Wow everything is so beautifully set up. 👍
Thanks!
Why did the joy of play sets such as these have to disappear?
Wish I still had my Castle Greyskull, Snake Mountain and Castle Eternia. Whoever got this from Goowill with all my He-Man figures please thank my aunt. Was a tough day when I got home from school that day.
The only player I had was a cardboard Autobot headquarters. It wouldn't hold a candle to even the honorable mentions....
But I loved it.
I would've loved to have seen the death star. For its time it was the biggest play set I had ever seen.
You killed it again!! Great job!
Thanks!
Good stuff. I’m sure we’ll see one on cats lair someday. I had the cobra terror drome and gray skull. Thanks!
Thanks!
I think the Mobile Command Center is a great one- similar to the Joe space shuttle complex- it pushed the play value with the "mobile" part. The big lumbering vehicle was just as cool as the base.

Michael Mercy ah- see, I was (am) a big space/NASA nut :-). That was right up my alley- used to drool over pictures of it.
I like space stuff too, but I got my space fix from Transformers thanks to Cosmos and Omega Supreme. :D
1) USS Flagg
2) Castle Grayskull
3) Cat's Lair
4) Millenium Falcon
5) Trypticon
Nice selection! :) My personal favorites are Snake Mountain and the Turtles sewer, I was lucky enough to have those as a kid. I still have pictures of my dad putting Snake Mountain together and of me playing with the Turtles sewer :)
Just recently picked up an incomplete vintage TMNT sewer playset at a local toyshop. Fun stuff! Hope to track down a few of the missing pieces before doing a video on it.
Good luck with the hunt :) I look forward to that video!
What a amazing and wonderful collection but my actual question is ,"How exactly you sleep ( what dreams ) ? 🤔
that laser effect on top of Castle Greyskull was worth the whole video haha! So authentic, great job man, awesome list
I will say some missing ones though: Technodrome, Turtle's Sewer Playset, Ghostbusters Firehouse, Death Star, Ewok Village/Robin Hood Sherwood Forest, G.I. Joe The General to name a few...
Thanks! The thing about Top 5 lists...you only get to include 5 choices. :D
My top five play sets. (That I actually owned)
1. Castle Grey Skull, although I never could get it as a kid, but got it used at the salvation army when I was in my early teens.
2. Snake Mountain, I got it new one Christmas.

4. Hordak's slime pit.
5. Eagle Island of Eagle Force. This one might be more obscure.
My Top five play sets.( That I wish I owned.)
1. Fort Max
2. Eternia play set
3. Hordak's Fright Zone
4. U.S.S. Flagg
5. GoBot Command center
Loved the slime pit! So gross and fun! Never seen Black Star's Ice Castle until you mentioned it. That would make a great base for the Thundercats Snowman of Hook Mountain! :D
I'd love to get another Ice Castle, but it was made of thin plastic. So it hard to find one that isn't damaged these days.
Shipwreck is clearly a Jack Nicholson impression. Never acknowledged that till just now.
#MichaelMercy, Wow!! I'm trembling like a little kid with excitement and awe just by looking at this video. Didnt have the flag but I had the sky striker , loved when the wings came out
Hey Michael Mercy..great video once again.
🤯😱 amazing.
Thanks for a great video.
I do not have space for these, unless I remove my bed,
and sleep in th kitchen..
🤦♂️
Haha, just sleep on the Flagg!
I know Mercy isnt into 80s Kenner Super Heroes/friends, but the Hall of Justice has to be in front of the Thundercats lair
Great video Michael once again!!!! huge Gi joe fan thanks!!
Thanks Pete! Yo Joe!
Good list, but I would’ve swapped out omega supreme for the Ghostbusters firehouse 😎
Where do you get your sound effects from? Anyway, amazing video with top-notch editing.
Great video as usual
Thanks! Nerdmasté! 🙏
Michael, where can I get that custom base for my FLAGG?
Interesting now that I can reflect, but one of, if not the biggest toy lines of the 80s DIDN'T get a playset of its own. I am referring to G1 Transformers. All classics in my eyes
great intro and music
I would like that presents for example the 1992 headquarters or Attack to CObra moauntain. To me those playset are awsomes .
I like your list
Thanks!
Top 5 play sets for me are: Castle Grayskull, Snake mountain, ThunderCats Lair, M.A.S.K Boulder Hill, Cobra Terror Dome and GI JOE headquarters.
Great list!
The Flag was like an urban legend when I was growing up lol we "heard" about it but no one ever saw one, except that 1 kid that lied about everything. Ya know that 1 kid that "talked" to santaclaus and caught the Easter bunny lol
Don't forget "Polybius."
🕹
D and D castle would be on my list.
Nothing beats the Flagg! Hope you can get soon the Cats' Lair.
It would be cool to even borrow one just to make a video on it. :D

That was a great video very cool
how come no one build replicas of these gigantic Flagg and shuttle, kinda like Transformers toys where replicas where made into better articulation and build?
Secret Wars Tower of Doom was great!
I want them all
Nothing is better then the flag! #1 all time

OMG i miss my old gijoes now
Sweet video bro :D I wish I had the Ewok village from the 80s :D :D :D other than that your list is the bomb
Thanks! I wasn't into Star Wars in the 80s so it doesn't usually show up in my top lists for that decade.
Heaven is your toy room.
Sectaurs huh!? I think I had that playset as a kid but the toys kinda freaked young me out so I think it got sold in a yard sale or something. Never knew what the franchise was till now.
One of my favourites as a kid.
Nice cat camio
Me: a kid from the 21 century wanting to be in the 1980s god
I want the cats lair right now 😢

Thaat USS flag was only 110usd at the time. Many new big toy sets cost a lot more and not really look that cool :) I would buy that carrier in a heart beat (for my kids :D )
Would fort max count?
I mentioned in the video why I he didn't make the cut.
