Thanks for the detailed film and kuddos on your achievement . Pirin Ultra is on my bucket list and your video and storytelling gave the best insides on the race. Cheers !
Very nice video, expressing all the emotions one goes through when embarking on a such a hardcore ultra. Congratulations with this victory, it is a huge achievement.
Jan, thank you for documenting this crazy experience in such a beautiful, touching way. Your humor and positive thinking are such incredible skills. Also wish we were still out there on Pirin, just to secretly whine a little more. Looking forward to the next one! Sam
Good stuff mate! If you ever consider coming to Bulgaria again, i would recommend something even funnier - Balkan Ultra ;) . Its "only"" 75k but with 6k of elevataton gain, crossing some of the most spectacular parts of Stara Planina mountain. Cheers!
@@janvoorspoels Yeah, i am planning it. And btw, the best part is , its FREE (for now). Also it has some of the most challenging cut-off times in comparison to other races in Bulgaria, so just finishing it is a feat on its own (and you get a cool T-shirt :) )
So... this is 160km, +- 36 hours, and no sleeping at all? Quite mad. I especially like your cycling videos, but this is something new to me. Pretty great, unbelievable, and wonderfully captured on video. (as always!) Thanks Jan!
Hi there! No sleeping on this one... 45 hours of non stop (type 2) fun! Pirin is an extreme example of an ultramarathon. What attracts me is the same as with cycling, the adventure, getting to places on your own strenght, challenging myself to push my boundaries a bit further away... I feel the more I run these things, or cycle long trips, the more my head and the world opens up. Feels great! Happy cycling!
Finally got around to watching this madness! Once again, thanks for sharing another crazy adventure Jan, and what a great job on telling the story over a whole spectrum of emotions! Makes me wanna visit those mountains 😁 Hats off to you, Sam and all the other madmen & women!
A whole spectrum of emotions sounds very accurate! An adventure like this takes you just as much on an inner jouney. My head was all over the place on this one 😄
Nice video. Brings back memories. I was one of the other "idiots" at the starting line. Unfortunately made it to the finish two hours after cut-off time. So despite my finish the result was a dnf and no medal. Apart from lack of sufficient pace I made a navigating error in the 2nd night when I started to follow the flags from the 66k distance. This has cost me a lot of time, but I was determined to reach the finish anyhow. I am planning a revanche for 2024.
Well done for finishing man! That was hard! The cut off times seemed to get more unrealistic the longer it went on... Hope you got good memories, that medal is not very important. Just a nice dust collector 😊
We all meet ourselves out there, no point trying to pretend to be different. I hope it inspires more people not only to go out there, but also to be real and open.
He also fell on his hand early in the race, scrambled some things up in there so he couldn't move some fingers. Apparently that didn't hurt and he kept going up and down with his poles 😄

Oh, apparently, next year it will be self navigating as they lose too many flags, the director told me!
a brilliant one, so real and honest. 10x for watching

What an epic achievement! And a spectacular film as a legacy for your grandchildren one day... ☺
You need to have a word with Indre about that 😄
Apologies accepted 😋Nice video 😎
Pfew, lucky me, it's a long way to bring back the medal! Keep organising, loved it!
Great stuff! No idea how do you do it... looks like a torture to me 😀
It was torture for us too 😄 Now that is 'Type 2 fun'.
What happened to Sam did he finish ?
Hi, Sam here :) Yes, I did, after some crazy hallucinations in the last section trough the forest, but I finished this beast of a race.
He also fell on his hand early in the race, scrambled some things up in there so he couldn't move some fingers. Apparently that didn't hurt and he kept going up and down with his poles 😄
