    This is exactly what makes Don Ross so great. How he's doing that funky little drive, having that half-jazzy Steely Dan-like thing going on harmonically, seasoned with nice flageolettes. This is funky, other fingerstyle guitarists with their sugar sweet pop harmonies are just left behind by this.

    I first discovered Don Ross (and this song) in, of all places, the LAX airport on the morning of Feb. 1, 2013 as I was waiting for my connecting flight. I used a song ID app (SoundHound) to find out who was jammin' on the guitar over the airport speakers!

  • @EzyoMusic

    @rogiermusic I think it might be CFBbEbEGC (that's a half lower)... basically EBDGBE two whole steps lower. I say that because the lowest note he seems to be hitting is a C.

  • @Datzfunk
    @Datzfunk 17 лет назад +1

    Man I especially love how he hit the harmonics every so often, but more so at 4:06

    For THIS recording the tuning is CEA#DGC...one half step up from baritone tuning

    • @pbhushanbsb

      On a normal guitar I think it's just as simple as EBDGBE

  • @ChrisW21341

    okk the dude was asking how to tune the A string up to a B which is what is needed for this tuning. basically either try tuning it up carefully and try not to pop it or restring the 5th string with a thick D (4th) string and its so much easier and you can get up to higher tunings.

    Just picked up the tabs. Song is fairly easy to play, but my god it sounds so damn good. Only Don Ross can write music at this caliber.

  • @JonnyCrash
    @JonnyCrash 17 лет назад

    Actually, the tuning sounds more like CGCFAD. I could be wrong on one of the top strings (it's hard to tell just by listening to him play) so don't quote me, but it's definitely lower than the standard E tuning scale. Amazing song. My hat is off to Mr. Ross.

  • @fouramhq
    @fouramhq 17 лет назад

    Beautiful, beautiful piece Don. Could you let us in on the tuning? Anyone?

  • @alaindesforges
    @alaindesforges 17 лет назад

    Baritone = guitar with longer scale than usual with bigger strings and lower tunings. This tune is almost standard tune except for the 'A' string (second biggest) that is tunned one whole tone up. So on a regular guitar, this tune would be, from low to high, E, B, D, G, B, E.

  • @rogiermusic
    @rogiermusic 14 лет назад

    @DuskY1991 Yeah, but I tried it and altough it was al long time ago, I was the closest to this tuning with C#G#BEG#C#. Why that F in CFBbEbEGC? Isnt it a G?
    I still have to learn this song.

  • @docteurneo
    @docteurneo 14 лет назад

    @guitarmusic1 : My belief as always been that a standard tuning was EADGBE, not EBDGBE.

  • @ChrisW21341
    @ChrisW21341 15 лет назад

    Very carefully !
    OR.. this is what i have done. I got a thick D string and replaced the 5th A string with the thick D string which makes it easier to tune to the B. It benefits aswell especially for other songs like Andy Mckee's where the A string needs to go to a C.

    stanndard tuning except the 5th string the A tune up to a B carefully, or replace it with a D string and lower it to a B. the rest of the strings are standard.
    k this mkaes it pretty clear

    Your ears are fine. I have my keyboard beside me here. but I don't however understand what he's saying about the *baritone* and what not :]
    but you're hearing CGCFAD. At least the first ones are for sure.
    but again. I don't know what he's explaining. I'm sure he's right tho haha :] I'm just saying what's on the vid

  • @jesse.leger83
    @jesse.leger83 17 лет назад

    CGCFAD sounds ALOT more like Don's tunning in this one then EBDGBE.... if you have any EAR whatsoever, the 6th string is obviously NOT an E. I'm still not 100% convinced CGCFAD is the correct one, but I'll see if I can't figure it out & post it. CGCFAD is very close though.

      you're right in that it gets done a lot, but it's a basic part of the style/music/feel of how what he's going for. He's got plenty of songs that are straight finger plucking which I'm sure you can find on youtube. personally I love the groove set by the thumb slap, and I respect the skill of working it into the melodies.

    • @Dougal-Mcguire
      @Dougal-Mcguire 10 лет назад +2

      its part of the rhythm and very impressive and personally i think it adds a percussive dynamic to the music. i think most will agree.

      +Dougal McGuire For sure. The string hits are basically emulating a snare drum. It actually sounds a lot like a drummer hitting a snare drum with a brush. I love it.
