Nice video! I really respect Stam’s innovative spirit and his amazing work. I really love the bottom end with that beautiful roundness of the vintage mode. This to me is seems like a wonderful tracking compressor for certain types of vocals, acoustic instruments such as guitar and other string instruments, and nice for rounded, saturated bass. Since I can only afford one piece of hardware for compression, I am really, really interested in the SA4000 mkIII. I think it would sound really nice with the 2520 mod, but I can’t find any demos. If you have access to any of those models, it would be really interesting to hear each version: Carnhill mod, 2520 mod, and the Fairchild mod.
Nice review. Been interested in adding a diode bridge comp to the mastering chain. The 609mkII is definitely on the list along with the Buzz Audio DBC-M and IGS V8.
I own the IGS V8 and it is a beautiful compressor indeed. It "handles" differently than a 33609 with its threshold, attack, and delay settings, but it sounds really good.
do you think for mastering is necessary that Side chain or HPF that have some more new compresor so it don't react so much to low frequencies. or no. or just a slow attack can do the trick ?????
It depends man, having the option is always welcome especially when compressing fast and substantially. Honestly for the 609MKII I did not feel the need for it (given the type of compression and all). I hope this helps!
Fantastic Video. History, Technology and Audio. I enjoyed listening.
Thanks a lot Nikolaus, it means a lot to us.
What a fantastic, informative video! Thank you Red Stone Productions.
fantastic how it opens and slightly spreads the sound
Thank you for making these awesome videos!
Another brilliant piece of gear from Joshua Stam and co. If the funds timing was right, I'd be all in...
I remember you from one of my old streams this is some pretty good info
Extremely well presented thankyou 🐃
Glad you enjoyed it!

You just gave me a great idea for a video! Comparing all 4 (Standard, API, Neve and Fairchild MOD). I'll make it happen

Thank you so much man!
So this version has side chain?
Yes like every other compressor, this version has Side Chain.
I’m asking about a side chain filter like in the sucessor or an input.
No external side chain input or filters
