Really nice interview, appreciate the feedback Roman gives. I totally agree that for example iRacing is so so good but that overheating tyre is just soo unrealistic. That is little things other games left right are missing or having good/bad. But simracing giving so much. I learned myself that all Race experience that I got from Simracing helped me so so much, Im always like "oh mate I have been in scenerio lets do this or go that way" works really good when you race car to car :) Always know what to do or where to go :)
What a great interview. I happen to share Romain's approach - simracing got too complicated for its own sake. Complexity does not equal fidelity. Physical tyre models, complex track evolution simulations, all those systems try to reflect reality, but crumble under their own complexity and ultimately fail. Simracers nerd out over these details, even though they're far from the real thing, while F1 teams put it all aside and make things simplier, as that helps to capture the essence and extract the necessary part of realism. Nothing wrong with pushing the envelope, but if you go the wrong way, you end up hurting the experience. Also, Romain joins the legion of real life drivers who took a jab at iRacing's tyre model.
Great interview, I agree! 🙂 I can totally relate to what Romain said about the tire physics in sim racing. My real-life racing experience includes driving a Skip Barber Dodge Formula car and 100cc/125cc shifter karts when I was younger. :) I was fortunate enough to participate in the early pre-alpha development of iRacing as a user, and it was revolutionary-the overdriving feel of the new tires back then was amazing. But things changed when they introduced thermal/temperature dynamics to the tires, and from that day, it went downhill. Even 35 😛 new tire models later, it still doesn’t feel good. I gave up a few years ago, but sometimes I check back to see what’s new. I agree, though-why don’t they focus on the feel first before overcomplicating things with irrelevant data?
I didn't realize but I have copied your setup Romain (although different formula wheel makes) and I have to say the "other brand" feels very different than the VRS, but then again you have way more experience than me. However, the "other brand" may be a brand that I am not aware of.
The tire model in iRacing is by far the worst in all "sims". The person who can save the most tire during an oval race with a long green flag run is usually gonna be the winner, while super speedway and raod course races have little to no tire wear. The tire feels plastic, no sidewall and you can easily lock up any car under braking. Why is iRacing not using their biggest assets (real drivers) for accuracy within their "sim"? I hope iRacing gets some good competition and it forces them to fix their "sim"....I think it's the only way things will get better.
I've been in iRacing since 2010 and I remember how good the racing was with the old tire model, maybe it was less accurate but it didn't have the overheating issue, and the FFB was a lot better you can really feel the car connected to the track, I think current tire model got too complicated making it hard to work on and make any adjustment on it.
@zretil I league race mostly (ovals), and we call it iSaving. The tires are broken for sure. It is not fun at all to roll around saving tires instead of actual racing. I am looking forward to AC Evo. I think it will be very good, and hopefully, it gives iRacing some incentive to fix the game they call a sim.
Step 1: Give everyone who made LMU a vigorous shoulder shake and ask them what they were thinking Step 2: Tell the iRacing team to stop charging 12 bucks for a single car in a game where you already have to pay a monthly subscription for some stupid reason Step 3: 1-week online ban for anyone who makes contact at T1 in Monza
Very nice interview with Romain. Loved this
Great interview, so interesting!

Yeah adaptation is probably the biggest skill sim-racing brings. Playing as much different titles definitely helps in that regard.
Thank you for mentioning iRacing's tyre overheating problem. It's cartoonishly bad.
I wanna take a moment to thank F1 for the halo once again. Its been 4 years and im still relieved
@@sitramaybe crazy how many more fatalities we would’ve had in recent years if not for the halo

Come try LMU if u want a good tire model 😊
Honestly creating one line grooves and realistic dirty air is what hurts simracing the most.
what a "fire" interview..... Love Roman! Great insights
Janne Laahanen should be y'all's next podcast guest, RBR legend!
I am glad I am not alone in not liking the way the rear of the car feels in just about every sim game.
Typically you put the plants/set props behind your subjects. Like the vid though.

Haha! Now you've said it....
Great interview!
Great point that real world has variables and great drivers read the situation.
Great video. Thanks
Over agressive pass attempts that take someone out of the race?
Cause we already got allot of that.
All jokes aside best of luck with the lambo

ironically, Rennsport copied those quickly overheating tyres. When you slightly slide, it is the exact same as iRacing, it's awful.
26:00 did he talk about LMU? RG8❤
Doubt that. Maybe rf2.

Nice video. What headphones is Grosjean wearing?
Acer Predator
Romain GrosJean secretly bashing iracing tyres at 4'30". And not secretly at 22'
I don’t blame him honestly, great sim but if you spin once be prepared to spin 3 more times
We should start calling it simsport to distinguish it from other esports
@@VandepoelM how does that distinguish it more than "simRACING"? lol
