Thank you, Master Woo! This was very helpful due to my insufficient hip and shoulder movement. After analyzing this video I feel I will do better in my upcoming class. Thank you, sir!
@@taekwonwooHello sir. You have an interesting channel. I want to use Resistance Bands for Stretching & I was wondering if it will be beneficial to use them for stretching? & If yes what are the Best ones to use? Thank you for your Time👍
I have enjoyed these tutorials from Master Woo. He is very unassuming, very thorough, and very good. Reminds me of my first master, Master Tiger Cho in the late '80s.
Learning so much from you ... I am still just a green belt but aiming to advance 🙏🏻 I do lots of work at my club but also to extra with your tutorials thank you 🙏🏻
This has been on my mind for the longest time. It feels good when I execute the kick that way but I was just wondering if that's even proper or a good variation to use.
@bmx7596 This is actually coming from a karate guy but one of our kicks is very similar (only difference being we strike with the ball of the foot rather than the flat).
lol only if u have been trained in jiu jitsu than yes, but for you; idk lol. taekwondo weakness is floor battle, and its not like im gonna stand there and let myself get hit. Though I do like taekwondo for being able to hit multiple targets.
taekwondo wt taekwondo itf In practice theyre okay but in reality judo or jiu jitsu is better for ground game, and in the end having mix martial arts and trying whats best for you is the best
@taekwondo wt taekwondo itf Why taking the offense? I like Taekwondo kicks so thats why im watching these videos. When I mean better, I mean in one on one and in a ground fight. Thats just reality, im not shitting on taeknowndo just because I know their ground game isnt the best. If it was more top UFC fighters would use it but the best ground game fighters use BJJ, JJ, and Judo, hell even wrestling is in there. Like if my life depended on it and I had to vote for two guys who are the same weight, went on the ground and grappling, and one guy knows taekwondo and the other knows JJ, I am going to have to bet that the JJ guy is going to get out on top. Can't get mad at facts if you do at least have some facts to back it up
@taekwondo wt taekwondo itf Tell me how it was stupid? It was constructive critique, unlike yours. I backed mines up with real life example, all you did was called someone else stupid.
@taekwondo wt taekwondo itf But he did, I read it and you got offended because he says some other martial arts has better ground game. Since you seem to know it all, tell us what UFC fighter uses taekwondo ground game and is succeeding?
@701765 I get what your saying, i have been training in TKD for to many years...lol..the force that turns starting at your shoulders pop's through your waist, the planted foot pivots at that time as well so the kick (release) has no resistance. If you have your foot planted, there is more of a chance that you "cross" your feet, and that can cause strain or even get hurt, believe me i know...but that pretty much how we get power from this kick..not to mention the fast, the more power you get...
I'm more of a muay thai guy, but just kinda broading my knowledge. How come in tkd does the striker get all the turning going with their hips but then use mostly the quad for the primary power source?I kind of like it b/c it almost looks like it could be something else at the beginning, so I guess its deceptive. Not knocking the style here, just wondering.
@bmx7596 It's mostly for training purposes to emphasize proper technique. In reality, your hips don't finish turning until after the kick comes out. Note the angle of the standing leg facing not 90 degrees, but almost 135 degrees from the starting angle. The hips initiate the delivery, follow through, and return of the kick rather than just the delivery as it appears step-by-step. (cont.)
Master Woo for the Roundhouse can you bring you're kicking leg up at a frontal 45° angle then turn you're hip over at the last second, rather than bringing it straight up? If you could help me out I'd appreciate it.
opening the kicking knee 30-45 degrees would be a good practice for the power and accuracy. with knee pointing front, beginners often kick the corner instead of the front. I recommend opening the kicking knee initially.
Very good instruction! Cam se ham ne da! @ TheMentalDestroyer-I am with you there friend! I fought full contact for a number of years and I feel it now that I am staring down the barrel of 50! Remember ibuprofen is our friend.
My teacher tells us to use the ball of our foot during a round house kick, I have never done it this way (kenpo, or self defense class) and it feels wrong. What do I do?
What's the kick where you spin counterclockwise and then land your heel to their face? I thought it was called a roundhouse (round for spin). But I guess not
+Funk Meiser it's what I assumed it was called. I'm aware it's a slow and exposing kick. But I just do this stuff on a bag for fun and cardio. I have since been trying to learn them. However I was unable to locate the kick where you jump up and then do the spin and kick
You asked a question about martial arts, so I can tell a "martial" question from a "curious" question. Oh, well since you're only doing it for fun, then it doesn't matter. This video is for proper use of martial marts, not just the kick. Go to a school and learn it first, because at all my tournaments, a front kick or side kick will kill all that hype!!! Any type of Spinning kicks, tornado kicks and jumping kicks come from the fundamental (basic) principles of the front kick, side kick, roundhouse kick, back kicks. Practice forms in that particular system (Karate, TKD, Kung Fu), unless you're into that MMA trip. Keep it basic.
+Funk Meiser thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. I have been focusing on my basic kicks a lot lately (power and control). Eventually I'll work my way into the more "fun" kicks
+Roger Kreil High Section kicks are risky both in training and in actual combat. The angle of your body can make keeping your balance incredibly difficult; while the position of your leg both before and after the execution of the kick provide great hand-holds for the other person to utilise - especially if you miss or are too slow to throw the kick. Hope this helps.
How long have you been training? Landing head kicks with the instep will hurt for a while until the foot and the joints have become accustomed to the trauma of the impact. If below head height, hit with the rock hard shin bone, not the instep.
A round kick you kick with the ball of the foot and the round house is kicking with the top of the foot be careful doing a round kick cause people neglet pulling the toes back causing that to kick lol
in my martial art of shou shu. this kick would not do anything. I dont see how u can get alot of power in that kick. he turns his planted foot at the same time he kicks. in our art we dont turn our foot until we snap it across. Our kick is what turns our planted foot. We can crush both legs on an enemy if we performed our roundhouse on someone. ive seen a shifu do it in a fight. the guys legs crumbled underneath him like bricks falling and we busted tissue, bones, and was wheelchaired 3 months
Taekwondo and Karate are similar. They are more focused on power. Although it is very easy to dodge using Chinese martial arts, a successful landing blow can do some serious damage. Just saying.
+gamegeekx While the taekwondo practicioner is a great kicker, loads of kicks in taekwondo are disguised by a chambered knee first, these people use a hybrid that chambers, reducing telegraph and increasing speed while instantly swinging the leg up and through it's target like a muay thai practicioner would. This kick is a medium powered kick with benefits of slightly longer reach, more speed and more risk of injury kicking with the foot and instep and less power then muay thai would have because they hit with the shinbone. It might be sport taekwondo these days but alot of the taekwondo practicioners favor speed and anti-telegraphing over raw power these days. Because most of taekwondo's kicks start from a chamber of the kicking leg and a snapping or pushing motion they all get heavily disguised in exchange for less power because a snap is infinitely less powerfull then a shinbone crashing into a leg or liver following a combination. The practicioners in the show were all great but the science behind is iffy at best. They all differ in weight they throw alot of different kicks with different purposes and didn't have a large sample group to test.
When that kid screamed, I thought he pulled a muscle lol
Thank you for watching and your comment.
That was not a scream

Nice kick Master Woo 🙏 Taekwon!
nice! I like how you keep your front arm guard while kicking thats not a common sight..
Awesome tutorial. Easy to follow and just all around fun to learn. Will send to my students.
Thanks.

You're great!! Thank you very very much, you explained everything thoroughly.
there are many ways to throw a round kick and the woo's one is totally correct :)

Master Woo, how does one get their kicking leg as high as you do? I can't seem to raise my leg very high when striking a target.
Haha That's hard to answer perhaps flexibility and years of training however think that some just can kick high and you do as best you can!
Great vid I like the breakdown very helpful

what is the Korean name for the kick

if you are Beginner you should hit the target with your shin, but if you hit it with the foot the impact is harder.
Great tutorial

The way he angles his front kick is hard for me, because im not at all flexible (so bad at attempting splits) but i can totally do the 90 degree kick.
i take this sport we also have back leg round house kick and other things too
Sorry i meant causeing the toes to either jam or break if you dont pull the toe back in round kick.
I just can’t get my leg that high! It’s so annoying! Can anyone tell me or recommend a tutorial on how to make my hips and legs more flexible?!?!
Sretch everyday and night i guess? (Note: I'm not a professional)
thnx master u r great

Thank you master
@Jinsungify
Maybe he wants to improve the quality of Taekwondo world wide?
How can one reach higher to the head target with this round house kick ? Is it simply more flexibility ?
Imran Maljee hamstring flexibility
Keep up the hard work!
how can i mix TKD and Muay Thai?
What is it called when you do a chain of round kicks
Sorry but I don't understand your comment.

Hello , If I have 1.88 tall, how much ( cm) from my tibia I have to put in my roundhouse kick for maximum power ?
Sorry but I don't understand your comment.
TaekwonWoo , from my shin (insted of tibia)
Would you do high kicks in a street fight or would you be afraid that he might catch your leg and take you to the ground?

for the best, we have to learn all of the moves. a good martial art always teach you many ways and tips of fighting.
It depends.
just kick fast and they wont catch it lol
Why can't I stretch out my lower leg, after I lift my knee? I don't get it... what is wrong with me?
how can you kick a dude on the head with a height like Yao Ming?
Master taekwonwoo i am from india and i want to know you something about taekwondo?
Dude, wtf are you trying to say?
my knee moves away when I open the the kick and got knee injuries what should I do ?
Remember, power and speed are always last thing to added to your kick. Focus to get the form right gradually to avoid any possible injuries.
thnx
just the way the two martial arts evolved, if you kicked the way we do in thai boxing with your foot, you would most likely break it extremely fast.
Why your taekwondo have belt purple ? Orange + Brown ?
Thank you!
You are very welcome, thank you for your support.
I did learned some basic moves from Master wo
