- Lorenzo Ghiberti, "Gates of Paradise," East Doors of the Florence Baptistery, bronze, 1425-52. Speakers: Dr. Steven Zucker and Dr. Beth Harris. Created by Beth Harris and Steven Zucker.
I’ve been so blessed to have had the opportunity to learn from such wonderful and inspiring teachers. My high school AP art history teacher, the class that got me into art history to begin with years ago, used to show us these Khan Academy videos. They are still helpful and doubly as enjoyable today! Thank you so much!
Been there in person and immediately remember Dr. Zucker and Harris … their voice resonated in my mind !!!
Thank you for providing such a clear description of these beautiful doors, and the history behind them. It's simply fascinating. I'll be looking for more of your videos.
You can find all of our work on smarthistory.org/ but since you liked the Ghiberti, you might be interested in our video on the competition panels made by Filippo Brunelleschi and Lorenzo Ghiberti, The Sacrifice of Isaac, for the earlier commission for the Baptistry. You can find it on Smarthistory.org here: smarthistory.org/filippo-brunelleschi-and-lorenzo-ghiberti-sacrifice-of-isaac/
Simply FANTASTIC! I've seen it fourth times!
nice x
Wish I could but when your humanities teacher has 7 more videos for you to analyze. What do you do?
Breathtaking, awe inspiring, so stimulating
So interesting as usual. Thank you so much.
These commentaries are wonderful!
Those panels are awesome
I'm glad they are in the museum now
Many thanks for this video. It aided me in my exam for the Renaissance in art 55. Very detailed analysis.
thanks for the upload I thought they were beautiful and I climbed the bell tower such a breathing city and I have seen my share
great job
Vraiment magnifique!!!! Merci beaucoup.
Thank you so much for this! The layout of the doors really helped me out... :)
I can't imagine seeing this building. The details are incredible - I'd get stuck there. Aside from having a very cool name, rilievo schiacciato creates a lot of visual interest in the examples I've seen so far.
I appreciate the unexpected Bible lesson on Esau and Jacob, lol. So much detail in that one panel - IYKYK.
Came across this video after reading Dan Brown's Inferno.
Thanks a lot for the interactive video and excellent explanation.
Pretty please if there is any chance please revisit this masterpiece and explain other plates too...The camera work on this was very good and detailed.
So interesting and well done 👍
You should do a video on each panel.
You've already uploaded this one.
***** True, but we corrected a minor error. We like to get things right.
Bayonetta vibes
Why isn't this building in Assassin's Creed 2? 😕
