- Hi! Welcome to the channel! This is usually a baking channel, but we recently went through an entire kitchen renovation using insurance claim money, so we thought we would document a little of our journey!
We hope this would be an informative help to those going through the same process. Insurance can be so confusing! Come listen along as my hubby, Nate, and I chat about our experience.
We would love for you to also follow our family adventures on social media!

Thank you for this information! A pipe burst and our whole main floor just flooded. We have Progressive too and they have been great!
Thank you for sharing this, y'all! I'm so nervous about this process! Thank you!
You can do it!! Just be sure to ask LOTS of questions and explore all your options.
Love you guys! Nice shirt Nate!
Oh yea, represent!!!!
Thank you for your video. It was extremely helpful and informative. I guess mortgage companies vary in regard to claim checks. Mine for instance, state that if the check is for less than 40k the homeowners send it in WITHOUT signing and they send it back endorsed to be used as needed. But in our case, the first check is a little over 71k and they will keep it and send us back funds as needed. Once all work is done, the remaining balance (if any) is released to us as long as the rebuild was to their satisfaction.
Hope you can follow our ramblings! 🤪 haha
Great video. I was expecting to see pictures of your new kitchen😢
An average full kitchen remodeling job averages near $60k and if you had hired a contractor that is experienced with dealing with insurance claims. Especially water damage, the insurance company would have to pay that with RCV coverage because it doesn't matter of the age of your home previously. Also, make sure you have O &L coverage. That is Ordinance and law coverage. That means that you are covered for things that were originally done not to today's codes. A contractor that is experienced dealing with adjusters knows the correct language to use when submitting information to them. Example. I recovered over $70k for a roof replacement due to water damage. If your happy, that's great. But if you ever need to file another homeowners claim. Send me a message, I'll help you get double what you got for that kitchen. 😊
I'm currently going through what they went through. Any tips? I'm in the very beginning. Haven't selected a contractor. Only had water mitigation completed.
So the 2nd check was given because the quotes you received were $7k more than the initial $9k the adjuster estimated? Did the adjuster have to come back out? How many quotes do u need?
Also, how did you get mortgage to agree with unlicensed contractors i.e. friends
Nate was in constant communication with our mortgage and insurance company, and he was able to get everything approved. I know building/renovating laws are different in each state and even in different counties, so definitely check your local laws. The mortgage companies have to abide by those. Our laws here in Kansas are pretty loose
Did I miss why they covered the remodel?
how much they toook to claim people took time for this process start so you started remodel work
When you say insurance agent , do you mean you worked with adjuster?
Yes. Sorry, I didn’t realize those were two different things. 🙈
