This is one of my favorite songs for all the wrong reasons. Don't laugh, but when I told the first girl I ever had feelings for and for just that and she just shunned me off, it broke my heart for many, many months. LOL a GUY crying to a song..I did. This is a classic.
Never tell a woman you love her until she has said she loves you. That is the lesson you learned at that time and it has stood you in good stead since then. You learned that a woman sees it as a sign of weakness when a man declares his love for her in advance. Declaring love is her prerogative and woe betide you if you do not reciprocate when she does say she loves you. How LGBT handle these situations is something beyond my knowledge.
Your right it proved the right choice it was good that Barry convinced Dionne Warwick to sing the song Dionne got a great voice and Barry and his brothers brilliant songwriters
One of the greatest songs ever written performed flawlessly by the greatest pop and soul singer to ever live. The musical arrangement in this recording is awesome.
The "Greatest Pop and Soul Singer to Ever Live?" Dude!!!!!! Calm Down and get into REALITY. It's a Good Song and YES She Nailed it. Otherwise Calm Down!!!!
Definitely! I first heard this as a child in the 1980s 😭 and it still hits to this day in 2023. Beautiful composition, arrangement and production... A perfect love song for real people. 😍😍❤️❤️❤️
IMO, this recorded version is the very best version of this song. The way she sang the words and in between them, every instrumental sound, all sound right, and flow together so beautifully. Very powerful. This is a remarkable composition, and Dionne was born to sing this song. They should've taken the video of the recording session.
Song is pedal to the floor from the first note. So we'll produced with a huge melodic sound that will not quit. Gibb brothers nailed this with big swells and an incredible hook. Song is a wall of awesome sound and addicting! Dionne just cuts through with her amazing vocals and the big production really compliments her awesome, soulful voice!
Her singing talent is absolutely superb. She is so classy. Loved her since I was 6 y/o and that ain’t yesterday. She doesn’t age, or if she has just a little, then it’s been with such grace. A true Superstar.
True said that Barry, Robin and Maurice wrote this song, it was released in 1982 by Dionne Warwick. The album was entitled Heartbreaker and the backing vocals are Barry and others( not Robin nor Maurice) If anybody could have sang this song as great as Dionne did..It would have been.... Andy Gibb
This song expresses the feelings of how much it it hurts to be in love with someone who never loved you the same as you loved them it's true love should be everything or not at all this world may end not you and I that's true love no matter how much that person has hurt you your love for them will survive anything it will never die
She's one of my top favorite female singers of all time! Met her one time when I used to work in broadcasting, and she said "Hi" to me first! I was sooo stoked!!! Love this song, too. Bee Gees and Dionne - Greatness!!!!
Ellen Felker I’m glad to hear that she was friendly. I never got to meet her. She was my absolute favorite singer in the 60’s when I was a teen. I got a job as an elevator operator at the Detroit Sheraton Cadillac Hotel in June 1965. I missed Dionne by one month. She stayed there in May. But I saw her perform at The Premiere, a small venue in Sterling Heights Michigan years later. She seemed like a snob. I really don’t want to think that’s true.
You can feel the touch of the Bee Gees behind that. Like many of their songs, this one runs like a well-oiled motor, and Dionne's voice carries it high in the sky.
This is one of the BEST songs I EVER heard by Dionne Warwick in my life. She sang this song with gratitude and dignity. I remember listening to this song when I was growing up as a small child and enjoying every little bit of it.
I remember this great track being released around the autumn of 1982. As a school kid then, I would not have come by Dionne Warwick's music, if it wasn't for this track. ❤🎼👏🏾🌟
I'm 16 years younger than my sister ( 60 /44) and Dionne always reminds me of her. Also Dusty Springfield. Never knew how much of a influence her taste in music would have on me when i was younger. Now im really able to appreciate it and love it. Her taste in music is impeccable.
Listening to this classic now in an age of talentless hacks and twits with synthesized autotuned mediocre voices, makes me realize how fortunate I was growing up with this level of talent in many of the songs I listened to. Dionne Warwick was woman of pure class with an awesome singing voice. Something sorely missed in today's world.
Oh my Gosh, What a great Song ! Reaches in, down into your depths and touches emotions. The chord changes are addictive...between happy and crying feeling throughout the whole tune.
michael price Don't see it. I've just looked at a picture of her in the 60s and one taken decades later. All I see is a change in hair style and make up. If she's had 'maintenance' work done in more recent years - fillers, a lift etc. that does not make her a _traitor to her race._ It just makes her a woman in showbiz...
aerialkate If she is having cosmetic work done that's sad. Society shouldn't shun age so much, it's a perfectly natural thing. Youth isn't meant to last a life time. =(
watchensee It is kind of sad, but I can't judge a woman (in particular) in showbiz for indulging. Look at the negative comments left on internet forums; TV comedians; the tabloid writers too. It's brutal.
aerialkate Oh I know why celeberties get cosmetic surgery as they age, it's to keep them looking good for the camera. I'm just saying that aging shouldn't be looked down upon so much. It's something that every living on this planet is destined to do if they live long enough.
couldn't agree more! As a kid, I grew up with all this great music - back then I must 've been a bit ashamed to enjoy it - and all these beautiful melodies just keep comin' back now
Back in 1983, I was a cook at Rocky Mountain College in Billings. This song was often playing in the background. A hard year, but I'd go back in a minute.
Dionne is a legend. In the 60s you couldnt turn the radio on without hearing one of her songs. She had one of the most played songs of the decade, "Do You Know The Way To San Jose." She ruled. Continued on through the decades. This is one of my favorite vocals of hers. And written by Maurice Gibb, another true genius.
I love this song. . Dionne is singing what many of us have went through. That one love who you thought was your one true love and life was meant for the two of you to be together. And you find out he/she wasn't returning love back 💯. It's a haunting feeling.. The Bee Gees are bringing it up from the rear echoing those words.. What a true story for many. No everlasting love here. Beautiful but hurting.
@@jimfinsterle5496 Chain Reaction (written by Barry, Robin & Maurice), Eaten Alive (written by Barry, Maurice & Michael Jackson), and Experience (written by Barry, Robin, Maurice, & Andy) to name a few. Barry co-produced the album "Eaten Alive" for Diana Ross which all those songs come from.

This lady, gifted with a singular voice, ranks amongst the “Greatest Artists of All Time”‼️ “Heartbreaker” was composed by the three Gibb brothers - staunch fans of Marie Dionne Warwick* - for her 1982 same-titled album. An absolute SMASH HIT… At first, the famous contralto was neither fond of nor thrilled about the song. However, she knew that recording a piece by the Bee Gees was a wise move. I've been a guitarist for many years. I haven't heard this song in years. It suddenly popped in my head today. I thought "what a great song". I'm glad to hear it again.
I love this song! I know it's supposed to be a sad song, but it reminds me of a spring day in 1984-I had just bought my first car, and my boss was having me take some papers to someone at Stanford University, so I was driving around the campus, checking out the college girls, enjoying the warm weather, when this song came on the radio-I felt like life was finally good.
I've loved this song for more than 30 years. a lot of people don't know, but it was written by the beegees, possibly the most under-estimated team in the history of song writing.
MsMimilala you just couldn't let it go and allow me to compliment the bee-gees could you? Maurice gibb HIMSELF once said, "everybody says they hate the bee-gees. well, we have written lots of hit songs for ourselves and other people so there must be SOME fans out there." people who feel the need to correct people all the time are rude dicks.
Praire Pup ....excuse ME but your comment needed to be corrected as it was fuckin stupid...everyone who are fans of the Bee Gees knows they are well established and not "underestimated" so what in ZEUS'S BUTT are talkin about?!!!...duh!!
I saw her in concert three times. She just sat there and sang perfectly, without a lot of preamble, without ever missing a note. She was amazing. Before that, I spent an entire summer wearing out her LP of Bacharach/David hits. And long before that, my father saw her first TV performance, which I believe was on the Perry Como show in the late fifties, and he said that this young lady would be a big star. He was right!
This song makes me happy to know there is great music still out there that still stands the test of time, but this song also makes me feel sad when I think about past times gone. Time will keep going by and further and further away will be music like this and such fond memories. So sad.
If i was ever gona try making a top ten favorite songs list, this dazzling haunting musical jewel would be one of them and like wow in all seriousness, those profound lyrics and her vocal delivery, this is larger than life, the Bee Gees knew exactly who they wanted to sing this luminous emotional masterpiece. > "My Love Is Stronger Than The Universe"

I've loved this song for more than 30 years. a lot of people don't know, but it was written by the beegees, possibly the most under-estimated team in the history of song writing.
err sorry but the bee gees were very much ESTIMATED ahhh.... they wrote songs for a whole bunch or artists
Praire Pup
....excuse ME but your comment needed to be corrected as it was fuckin stupid...everyone who are fans of the Bee Gees knows they are well established and not "underestimated" so what in ZEUS'S BUTT are talkin about?!!!...duh!!
C ya troll...
Obviously you're a kid with little or no sense...constructive criticism wld've sufficed not stupid name calling...good fuckin bye!!!
Timeless, fabulous classic...and a voice to die for.
Why do you have to be a heartbreaker when I was being what you want me to be! Listen to those bars go Dionne!!!❤
Was completely obsessed with this song !!!!!
Simplesmente maravilhoso ❤️
This song makes me happy to know there is great music still out there that still stands the test of time, but this song also makes me feel sad when I think about past times gone. Time will keep going by and further and further away will be music like this and such fond memories. So sad.
Lovely song with powerful lyrics classic
This is the way music should be. Talented people making sounds we want and love to hear

I really think Miss Warwick never got the dedication and the respect that a singer like her talent really had bring it girl
