You are a tough grader! This film practically swept the Academy Awards in 1991 winning all five major awards including Best Picture. You're like the teacher we all had who never gave out "A"s!
Yeah I don't think I've ever seen her give a 5-star rating. Granted I haven't watched every reaction on the channel, so it might exist on a video I haven't seen yet. I'm just curious what movies she would give a 5.
Biss has given out some 5-star ratings, but not many. A movie has to really move her to get 5.
Rightfully so. This movie is amazing
Billy Crystal, who hosted the show, arrived on the stage by being rolled out like Hannibal was at the airport, sporting the mask and everything. This movie was incredibly popular.
The movie has been copied and mentioned so much over the years that the plot twists are no longer that surprising
One of the best films ever made. In nearly 100 years of the Oscars, only 3 films have won the "big five" (Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Screenplay). Silence of the Lambs was the last film to do it, and that was over 30 yrs ago. A masterclass in writing, directing and also acting from Foster and Hopkins. Incredible actors at the top of their game in this film.
Recommendation is "Red Dragon" as that is the only movie in the series or genre to exceed this one. It is the book just before this movie or the movie just before this movie. The book "Red Dragon" is the best of its' kind and is even better than the movie. If you want to feel ill and scared at the same time "Red Dragon" but if you want something similar but not finding the killer and rather just even worse "The Painted Bird." That one will never leave me for sure. Creepy beyond the pale.
@@ReligionOfSacrifice Right, but the novel being better does not diminish this film. Also the film version of RD is not very good.
@@CyberChunk77, the movie for "Red Dragon" may not be as polished as "Silence of the Lambs" nor liked by the general population which wants the jokes about women with the criminals, but is far more scary in that the creepiness of the book still is there.
Listening to a Romanian living in Germany singing 'Country Roads' was something I didn't know that I needed in my life.
But it surely is.
She moved to Spain recently.
@keithgoode6313 Ok, thanks. All I knew was what was in the channel description.
she is german
William Petersen (CSI) stars in "Manhunter (1986), adaptation of "Red Dragon." It came out 5-years prior to "Silence of the Lambs."
and of course was made again as "Red Dragon" starring Ed Norton in 2002
also an excellent film
@@flerbus And with Hopkins.
@@flerbus As mentioned, the name of the novel.
I had the pleasure of working with Ted Levine at the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago in the 1980s. He was a focused, extremely gifted actor.
He was fantastic in Shutter Island
He played a lot of negative characters. One other notable one was Wes in "Betrayed" (1988).
It took me a long time to realize that he was also the actor playing the Captain in "Monk."
@DougRayPhillips Amazing how a good tash can completely change ur face. When I first watched Monk, it drove me mad trying to figure out who he was.
Biss: "The moth in the throat, I think it has something to do with transition, changing."
Me: "Clever girl. You're so close to the way you're going to catch him, you know that?"
I love watching her because she is so intelligent and observant…she picks up on these things that I’m my younger years I would have analyzed but I’m older now and I have stopped being so analytical
I love that the first few minutes of the film tell such a big story of the character, with her being the only one with a blue shirt in the elevator with the people with red shirts etc.
Buffalo Bill was played by Ted Levine, who went on to play Captain (San Francisco Police) Leland Stottlemeyer on the TV series "Monk".
Precious, his dog, was played by Darla, who also appeared in "The 'Burbs" (as Queenie, who was trained by her owner to poop in his neighbor's front yard) and "Batman Returns".
Batman Returns, that's where I saw the pupper.
An often overlooked detail, remember in the beginning of the movie when Lector was describing his drawings and he said, "that's from the Belvidere scene from the Duomo" then at the very end of the movie Buffalo Bill and the victim Catherine were found by Clarice in the town of Belvidere, Ohio.....Lector knew all along where Buffalo Bill was.....shocking actually.
One of the SWAT cops is Chris Isaac. You did a video of his song, Wicked Game.
Biss is so quick with the puns, even in a language not her own, "I think she did go to that charm school after all!" You had me choking on my tea.
This is very silly, but a couple of weeks ago I discovered that Jodie Foster is a big fan of the movie "Team America", from the creators of South Park. She spoke about it in at least in a couple of interviews and it was quite apparent that she was very excited about it! 😂 I don't know why, but seeing a famous A-class actor really enjoying that type of homour, just like any normal person, actually made my day 😆
Reportedly Julie Andrews has an "adult" sense of humor.
@@treetopjones737 Andrews was married to Blake Edwards so that checks out.
21:23 - I love how she flirts more genuinely with the bug guys than the director of that psychiatric facility. Weird recognize weird.
Thank you for the extra support !
29:23 In that context, i think the "Slab" is the autopsy table.
@@henrikibsen1009 no idea how? since that's what it means
So, come up to the lab, and see what's on the slab! I see you shiver with antici . . . . pation . . . .
Archaic, as they use metal tables for that, they aren't thick.
"I'm having an old friend for dinner." One of the best movies lines ever . . .
Bisscute comes across as "meh" and numb to everything at the moment. This film is a masterpiece and she didn't seem to connect emotionally at all.
@worthlessdollar1 that's what happens when you watch true crime documentaries for "fun." Fiction ceases to phase after awhile.
I've watch many videos on your channel, and yes, you can be very proud of yourself indeed. I'm so impressed on how intelligent you are and so mature for your young age. I could go on and on but you already know how amazing you are. Thank you for being a breath of fresh air.
Lecter's reason for asking about Clarice's childhood trauma serves an additional purpose besides him understanding who she is and what fundamentally drives her, her essential motivation. It persists even when she's faced with numerous other obstacles in life attempting to hold her back or deter her. Lecter's giving her clues how to understand the person she's hunting, Buffalo Bill, and what fundamentally drives him.
"Read Marcus Aurelius. Of each particular thing ask: what is it in itself? What is its nature?"
When this came out I was in college at the University of Florida, 4 months earlier, Gainesville, Florida was terrorized by a serial killing….so this movie was extra extra gripping having live through that nightmare!
Danny Rolling aka "The Gainsville Ripper", the inspiration for Scream
Hey Miss Biss, thanks for reacting to one of my all-time favorite movies. I had a blast following along with you, and your intuition for correctly making sense of the clues was spot-on.
Anthony Hopkins won the Oscar for best actor with about 30 minutes of screen time.
16 minutes, actually. One of the shortest for someone to win an Oscar.
Yes🎉🎉🎉 finally Biss reacting to a great film. The acting performance of Anthony Hopkins made him an icon. loved your reaction as usual Miss Bisscute ❤❤❤ thanks for this one
Excellent reaction, Agent Biss was all over the clues, the best part was a cappella Country Roads!
Good one, Miss Biss! I remember seeing this one in the theater when it first came out. Loved it! Thanks for sharing it.
Sweat Shirt is usually the customary title in the USA for that heavy long sleeve pullover she was wearing at the beginning.
...without a hood*
@AlexanderWinterborn-r6p
I didn't think it had a hood?
@@AlexanderWinterborn-r6p That's only recently. Before at least '95ish, a hooded one was still a sweatshirt or hooded sweatshirt.
9:18 "Rube" has 2 meanings. 1. An unsophisticated person from the countryside. 2. Another word for sucker or mark, mostly used by someone trying to scam you though this definition is rarely used today.
Proud to be an unsophisticated person. City folks are morons
sir Hopkins, one of the very best!
someone did an analysis of 1 scene in Westworld (on a terrace) where he switches emotions and intent with and within sentences. that man is a pure masterclass of acting.
Despite only having less than 15 minutes of screentime, Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lector became a horror icon, even earning a Best Supporting Actor Oscar.
Incorrect. DO not give yourself a thumbs up for providing wrong information.
It is one of my go to examples of the principle of quality over quantity. Short roll for a lead, but far from a small roll.
Thank you for all your hard work and all that you do... I appreciate you so much 😊👍💪❤️
7:27 "The more well behaved they are, the dangerous they are". I agree 100%.
Perfectly normal LOL. You did a great job analyzing in the beginning. Enjoyable reaction video.
10:11 In America, that's called a "Spiderman."
Jesus what a name haha ! But thank you for the extra support
I have never seen any other reactor so calm while watching this film.
her pulse never went above 85..
She didn't seem to be interested...
This isn't even worthy of being a story you tell to 5 year olds in Romania. They grow up with far worse.
She's better at surfaces and shallow waters. Happens all the time, like The Exorcist, etc.
Romanians are the source land of Vampires...I guess horror is just childs play there
4 stars ? My God, you're hard to please....
She's a bit jaded from watching true crime docs constantly.
Always enjoy your reactions. Plot twists, consider "The Negotiator"
I found your channel yesterday and I immediatly became a fan.

Welcome
"It puts the lotion in the bucket, It puts the lotion on it's skin. Or else it gets the hose again", I remember Eminem using that in a song. I think it's 3 a.m. I thought it was such a great homage of a classic line from a great film.
It was so fun watching the movie with you knowing I had seen it before but watching it through your eyes and Your actions were priceless great job keep up the good work❤
Great reaction biss, thanx! This movie is one of my favs! I think is one of your favourite movies to see and analize and think! I had fun and was very entertained! 2 thumbs up reaction and 5 star reaction! Have a nice day!
surprising plot twists werent really a big thing yet back then... then The Usual Suspects came along and later The Sixth Sense, and suddenly EVERY damn movie wanted to include a "shocking" plot twist, no matter how contrived.
Lecter escaping at the end was as close to a twist as was common back then 😊
Lecter being in the ambulance wearing a guards face is a shocking twist for most people. It didn't work on Ms. BissFlix because she's very intelligent, and because, being a vampire, she has seen every trick in the book.
My gf figured the Sixth Sense twist barely 10 mins into the film. She was surprised I didn't. :D
@@mapesdhs597 yes, because people nowadays expect a twist of some sort, and with that mindset the twists of Sixth Sense and even Usual Suspects are kinda obvious. But at the time they absolutely were not.
@@GroovingPict This *was* at the time. :D I'm now 54; she's a little older, and when it comes to figuring out movie plots, smarter. :}
My point was that the film does have enough clues very early on to work out what's happening. It's just that most people don't (or didn't), myself included.
Clothing sizes: A U.S. size 14 is 44.5 in Europe.
'The significance of the moth is change.' I'm posting my +++ as I hear 'I'm very proud of myself...'
Yes, Red Dragon is more intense in the novel than the two adaptions for movies.
29:17 - "Slab" - A large stone. But , in this context, when Lecter says: "... when your little girl is on the slab...", he is refering to when the (dead) body of thegirl is being examined. Or, more specificly, he is actualyl saying: "... when your girl is dead..."
31:13 - "To Covet" - To want / desire for something very strongly .
IOW, the slab is the examination table
@@fewwiggle He's being loose with language, as they don't use a thick table, and it's metal for easy cleaning.
@ Instead of "loose", I'd call it metaphorical. Regardless, this particular metaphor was quite common until (apparently) recently.
Great film and a spot on reaction. I laughed when you mentioned you were proud you deduced the significance of the moth. I was proud of you myself thinking she's so smart. 😊❤🎉
AAAHHHH Biss!!!! It's Jostagirl coming home already excited to watch this when I get home then settling in and you singing my song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You just made my day my week my month!!!!! Love you sweet Bissy💖
Wassup Bisscute love your videos and reactions keep up the amazing work my friend 😊😊
"To covet" is 'to desire'. Usually, to desire something that is not yours, and wanting to make it your own.
Think of Gollum coveting the ring hanging from Frodo's neck.
A natural role for Anthony Hopkins, as he often played doctors and professors.
Buffalo Bill was inspired by real life killer Ed Gein.
This movie had a HUGE impact in the 1990s. If you're reading true crime today, it's probably thanks in part to the effect that Silence of the Lambs had on pop culture and our interest in serial killer stories.
I have never seen Bliss this sedated in a video. Lol. Girl is working too hard or must have been tired. This is a 5x Academy Award Winner. Come on! 😭😂
Sedated?? I was paying attention , trying to solve the mysetry . What would you have me do? a backflip?
@BissFlix yes and 2 cartwheels. Lol jk. I didn't hate the reaction. I gave it a Like. You said yourself you wanted more. So whatever was up I was just teasing. 😭😛
14:30, "so they are tormenting him with trash tv?" lmao yep
One of the most exquisitely made movies ever.
When you watch this film vs reading the books or seeing the first movie Manhunter really determines how you feel about this film. If it's the first Hannibal experience, its amazing, and explains the huge critical and public praise when it came out.
30:18 ..."Not everyone is a vampire just because they're crazy, look at me, I'm perfectly normal"... Well, we actually never saw you under the sunlight, so....
Or in a mirror. 💀
A wonderful reaction to this masterpiece. Many thanks Biss. 😎
Agent Starling should be in the same pop culture conversation as Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor.
She isn't?
@@VladislavBabbittShe kind of gets overshadowed by Hannibal, unfortunately.
Not to mention Ripley and Connor have the benefit of showcasing their growth as badass characters by one actress that embodied the role for multiple movies. Connor, in particular, didn't really receive badass iconic status until T2. Jodie Foster portrayed Starling phenomenally, but Julianne Moore did not and that kind of hurts the conversation. Just my unprofessional opinion of course.
@ I saw both movies at the theatres when they were released, so I can see what you are saying.
Plus I read the books.
I do not know why Jodie Foster did not want to appear in "Hannibal".
I don't know that she enjoyed working on the film so much. Especially, she was not thrilled with Anthony Hopkins. @VladislavBabbitt
@ Yes, I have heard similar things as well.
Red Dragon just flows right into Silence of the Lambs! Interesting side note; Jodie Foster revealed in an interview that she and Anthony Hopkins never talked during the production of the movie because he scared her so much! Iconic movie and thoughtful comments by my favorite Biss in the world! ☺☺
42:48 A six-round revolver? This was 1991. Law enforcement, at least in the US, had _long_ since moved on from them in favor of _clip_ guns which usually carry more like 14 rounds.
Ahh got it
I have been to Davis, WV and the house where Buffalo Bill was at in the film was right up the street from the main drag.
The next-filmed movie is HANNIBAL, and it provides further lessons in disembowelment in Italian history, particularly for one certain family. Also, fans of Fine Dining are reminded that Lecter sets fine table, mimicking many of the finest restaurans where chefs attend patrons at their table-size to provide cooking and preparation of some of the finest cuisine. But definitely, the 1986 MANHUNTER - which is the storyline's first filmed entry - is a powerful first-entry. It was remade and considerably watered down into the 2002 version RED DRAGON (which is still a worthy film, but watch both MANHUNTER and RED DRAGON and find the comparisons yourself).
37:00 Biss, I absolutely loved this about the satisfaction of solving mysteries - and within this context it's especially appropriate! The original _Silence of the Lambs_ novel has a great line, one of my very favourite quotes, that sums it up perfectly: "Problem-solving is hunting. It is savage pleasure and we are born to it."
29:18 Slab is morgue table, these days they are made of stainless-steel, but historically they was mabe of a large slab of stone.
Hello from France 🇫🇷. I love your videos. And you are great 👍😁. I saw "The Silence of the Lambs " in the cinéma. I slapped in the face 🤩. Same with "Seven", my 2 best cult thrillers from 90s. Bisous 🤭.

It's funny you mention Netflix's 'Mindhunter': 'Mindhunter' is based off the book 'Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit' written by former FBI Special Agent John Douglas, who was the inspiration for Clarice's boss, Jack Crawford (portrayed by Scott Glenn) in this movie.
"Swimmers" is the funniest word for it ive ever heard
And from this day one You can use it too haha
Halito 👋🏽 excellent film 🎦 thank you for sharing your reaction 🧡
Thank you too
Bisscute, I hope things are going well for you.
Mindhunter was very good. Especially the guy who played Ed Kemper. He was amazing.
100%
Lecter never had any intention of hurting Clarice, he wanted to help her and he did.
Really entertaining reaction. I appreciate what a savvy viewer you are 👍
I have been waiting so long for you to react to this!
I love you bisscute. Keep up the great work hun ❤
The novel Red Dragon has actually had two movie adaptations. In 1986 there was one called Manhunter, and another film in 2002 with the same name as the book. Manhunter is the best of two, and on a par with Silence Of The Lambs IMO.
Bit of Lambs trivia. One of the SWAT team members who are called for as Lecter makes his escape was played by Chris Isaak, who did the song Wicked Games.
One of the greatest films of all time. Just a perfect movie in every way.
In the US,there was a series called Criminal Minds that is simular in subject matter. Not all episodes delt with serial killers but most did.
The most intriguing part of the ending is how Starling once again entered a dangerous area and didn’t check all her surroundings. She even entered ALONE. 😳 She was very lucky to get out of there alive.
She HAD to put herself in danger, or Catherine would have easily been quickly killed and Bill would have escaped.
And the most intriguing part of the ending is how Clarice ONLY survived because she happened to be a woman. If she had been a man and Bill wasn't distracted and entranced by her, Bill would have shot him immediately.
Hay Biss. Hay is for horses but grass is free... LOL
In the 1980,s a movie of 'red dragon" was made called"man hunter" brian cox played hann8bal lector. William peterson played will graham.
Later,"red dragon' was filmed, with Anthony Hopkins as lector,Edward Norton played will graham.
I always enjoy hearing from you.
I love when you get excited about creepy stuff... I do too, so it makes me feel either less creepy myself, or at least in good company. 😂
Hey Hey there Miss Biss. 😊 I have all the movies on dvd. ❤Love your reaction as always. Have a good evening.
He could be a sniffer dog 😂😂😂. You do make me laugh.
I like the captions still displaying regardless of the pictures absence.
We are trying always to provide the best quality for everyone
Slab means a stainless steel table in a mortuary. The 'slab' is where corpses are placed at the time of an autopsy. Covet is when you want the things you see that other people have. Covet can mean you want their things, and covet can mean that you want their relationships. Damn, Biss. You are absolutely brilliant. I saw the movie before I read the book, and frankly, the movie kept me guessing. If you read the book, you will see that Dr. Lecter was more twisted than he appears to be in the movie.
Yep, though it's called a "slab" because autopsy tables were usually made of stone, often marble, before stainless steel was invented.
I'm 10 minutes in, and I love you even more! I rewatch Mindhunter every year, still hoping for the show being re-opened! I also like true-crime, and I had fun watching this film, getting references to other murderers. Also, love your accent! 😻
it's a good series, unfortunately netflix destroys all.....
the show HANNIBAL is one of my favorites. Not sure how good it would be for reactions, but it sounds like you would really enjoy it.
3 things
1. This film is exceptional and I'm glad you liked it.
2. Mindhunter was a gem. It was near and dear to me, as I am in school right now for similar occupation.
3. I only started watching again after a year or so, but your content is relaxing. Thank you and keep going.
lol impressive how you predicted lecter’s ambulance trick😮 You have a criminal mastermind
I would keep me on a good side then haha
There are no vampires, only Bisscute! ❤❤❤
Zodiac (David Fincher who also produced Mindhunter, Directed Fight Club and Se7en)
Thank you 😊 for the reaction beautiful ❤❤
To you Biss it was predictable, i actually got sucked in forgetting what Lector was. That was brilliant and yes I'd say it proves you are familiar with this kind of subject. "I think he just finds you stupid and doesn't speak to you because of it." Love it! And yes, exactly so spot on. Lector can push Chiltons buttons and read him like a book. Thank you Biss.
Former WCKG and WLS radio newsman Buzz Kilman as the bearded paramedic that wheels out the wounded "guard" .
This is the most laid back reaction to this film I've ever seen? curious.
33:10 you are one of the only reactors that actually catches the brief momentary grief on Hannibal's face as Dr Chilton comes in. He desperately wanted to tell Clarice Buffalo Bill's name but he couldn't now because the doctor would have taken all the credit. It's an extremely subtle moment so I'm very impressed you caught it! It even took me multiple viewings to catch it!
Oh this is gonna be good! 😱🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
LETS GOOOOOOO!! 👍😎👍
Mind hunters was based on
John Douglas, the man that started the behavioral science division of the FBI. He wrote a book about it. It was very good.
Mindhunter is incredible, love that show. The guy who played Kemper was terrifying
The Red Dragon novel was adapted into a movie called Manhunter in 1986. Absolutely worth watching the remake was actually called the red Dragon with Edward Norton and it was OK but the original movie Manhunter one of my favorites.
