  • Today I'm finally doing another (much needed) puzzle declutter! My collection is overflowing and might even be considered a 'hoard' at this point! So before things get even more out of hand, I figured some puzzles have got to go! I'm going to share with you all the puzzles I'm planning to declutter and why. All the decluttered puzzles will either be donated to charity, given to other puzzlers, sold or even swapped (although not too much swapping as I actually need to come home with less puzzles, not the same amount!).
    I'll be bringing some of the puzzles from this video to the below Sydney puzzle swap event - if you're in the Sydney area maybe I'll see you there!

    I'm in between collector and minimalist when it comes to puzzles. I have a collection but compared to the other puzzlers I see on the internet it is rather minimalist 😂 I have a couple cupboards dedicated to storing puzzles in our puzzle/Lego room and then one shelf of snack puzzles in my bedroom.
    I am very picky about which puzzles go in my "keep forever" collection and I do tend to give others away once I've done them just once. I am also quick to "nope" out of a puzzle I don't like and immediately donate it because life is too short to finish a puzzle I hate 😂
    I do buy puzzles at a rapid rate like normal collector puzzlers and my to-do list is quite large... But again... When I compare myself to other puzzlers I definitely feel like I am still a minimalist 😅 I am generally minimalist so it makes sense, but I do Feel like a hoarder when it comes to puzzles 😋

    Omg, Jubie! I not only completely missed one of your videos (notifications working fine, just have so many alarms, reminders and notifications that I sometimes just ignore them 🤷‍♀️), but a declutter video! Eesh, I knew I was off the last couple of weeks, but this is nuts! 🥜
    😶
    Anywho, I love me a declutter video! 🥰 When I started watching, though, my immediate reaction was, "this is too many!" ... It's not too many, get a grip, Kim.
    I love hearing your decluttering thoughts, and listening to your reasoning. 👂 💭 🤔 It gives me inspiration for doing my own decluttering. 💡 I'm not quite there yet, but I know I have a bunch of puzzles that I do want to let go. A pile of them are used puzzles that I haven't done and don't think I even want to do, they were just priced really well or were in a batch with something I did want.
    I can be so obsessive, and originally thought I would put them all together, even if I didn't like them, just to make sure the pieces were all there. 🤦‍♀️ I'm definitely going to have to get past that kind of thinking.
    I've also gotten taken in in general by good pricing on new and used puzzles. (I love a good deal! 🛍) I'm trying to break myself of that habit, however, I have had a couple of puzzling experiences where I didn't particularly like the image, but then when I did the puzzle, I absolutely loved it! Not helpful. Having said that, I still have so many puzzles that I really need to not worry about "missing out." It's not like I'm going to run out of puzzles!
    Which brings me to ... I don't know how many puzzles I have. At least 400, but beyond that, who knows? (There's no way to know. 🤷‍♀️)
    Anyway, you've given me a lot to think about, Jubie! 🤔 🤔 🤔 And I look forward to not missing your future videos. 🙃 (Pay attention, Kim!)

    • @JigsawJubie
      @JigsawJubie  Год назад

      Actually it might be my fault that you missed seeing the declutter video initially as I put out 2-3 videos in rapid fire! It was my attempt to make up for lost time as I was previously behind in my own personal video release schedule... which seems to change from week to week. 🤔 So I guess who really knows what's going on? I sure don't! 🙃🤷‍♀️
      Oh don't worry! The declutter didn't even make a dent. The spare room still looks like an episode of Hoarders. 👍
      I seem to have a bunch of puzzles that I either found second-hand or purchased at a discount price... but have since lost interest in. Yet part of me still feels like I need to complete them once before I can declutter them. I don't quite get what this is about, but what I do know is that I really need to stop buying things just because they're cheap or whatever. 😕
      The other mistake I made after the previous (or very first) declutter video was to procrastinate about listing them on Facebook marketplace to sell them... so some of them have still been sitting around until yesterday! 🤦‍♀️ If there was a competition for procrastination I would probably win it... assuming I didn't procrastinate about the procrastinating. What?!
      Anyway, despite all the above, yesterday I actually managed to get 15 puzzles out of the house! Hurrah! It probably would have been more if I could carry more. You see, there was a local puzzle swap event so I took a whole bunch to that. You got a ticket for every puzzle you handed in for swapping so then you could spend your tickets on the other puzzles there. I was kinda good and only brought back 5 swapped puzzles (let's not talk about the other 4 that I bought at the event). Even though I didn't get any money for them, it felt better knowing they were going to other serious puzzlers instead of just randomly donating them. Although I do have a pile that I will be donating too. 😀

    Love the mushrooms puzzle.
    I regularly declutter and recently gave away 40 puzzles to a friend. Puzzling is not that popular here in Greece so it was give them away or bin them which I definitely wasn't going to do! They were mostly Ravensburger, Clementoni and Schmitt which I had kept for years. Nothing wrong with them but been done 2 or 3 times.

    • @JigsawJubie
      @JigsawJubie  Год назад +1

      I like the mushroom one too! 😀 But I figured I hadn't done it again in such a long time it was time to let it go. Plus it turns out I have a couple other rather similar mushroom puzzles in my collection waiting to be done! 😅
      Wow! 40 is a decent amount! That will keep your friend busy for a while. That's a pity that there isn't really a second-hand market for puzzles in Greece. But I guess it's just not that popular in some places.

    I’m always at a loss as to what to do with my puzzles. I have one friend that enjoys them but not to the wild extent they I do so I took her about 10 and she’s good for like a year now! I hear you about trying to not just buy when they’re on sale. I’ve had to make myself stop buying Ceaco if they’re over 500- the quality just isn’t there. But their images are so bright and cute!! I’ve also learned that I simply don’t have the room or the body length to do anything over 1000 pieces! And yes, Buffalo is pretty cheap here- I can get them at WalMart for usually under $10. I’ve done several of those you showed. I actually didn’t even finish that Josie Lewis one cuz I just found it too aggravating!

    • @JigsawJubie
      @JigsawJubie  Год назад

      Hmmm... I wonder if there might be any puzzle swap or buy/sell groups near you? It would be great if there was something local like that where you can pass puzzles along to other puzzle enthusiasts.
      I'm always such a sucker for pretty images and a good price! So I have to try and stop myself too from buying puzzles from brands like Ceaco, Holdson, etc. It's for the best because I know in the end I'll just end up annoyed and frustrated at the puzzle quality. 😅
      I still buy up to 2000pc puzzles but not too many because I also struggle with reaching across puzzles... I hate having to get up and walk around to the other side of a 1500pc or 2000pc puzzle! 😆
      Yes, that Josie Lewis one was actually quite tricky for the piece count! And I didn't love the colours in it as much as her other colourful, rainbow designs.

    I feel the same way about the Oceania puzzle by Re-marks. I take a more iterative approach. After I finish a puzzle, I either put it in the keep or give away puzzle pile. I have limited room to store the puzzles I want to keep, so it’s only kept if I really like it. The give away pile gets subdivided into 2 piles: one for nursing homes and one for charity. By the way, I tried a new brand recently: Sunsout. Talk about puzzle dust! I think there was a couple of tablespoons worth. Pretty images, but into the give pile they went. The Colour Frenzy by Jacarou was great and went into the keep pile. Love your channel.

    • @JigsawJubie
      @JigsawJubie  Год назад

      That's good to know someone else feels the same way about Re-marks - not that I wanted you to have a bad experience with the puzzle of course! But just confirms that I'm not imaging things! 😆
      Oh that's a good approach! I guess that means you're less likely to hold onto things unnecessarily or change your mind about puzzles either. As you can see I tend to save up a whole bunch of puzzles to declutter. Although sometimes I just don't want to wait until the next declutter video and just donate them/give them to friends. I hadn't thought to give some to nursing homes - I might have to look into that and see if any near me are interested. I've also been thinking about contacting some local libraries to see if they want some puzzles too.
      Uh oh... I have a couple Sunsout puzzles in my collection which I haven't done yet... 😅 Guess I'm going to have to put the pieces in a strainer first! How were the pieces though?
      I'm quite enjoying the Jacarou brand. I don't like the glossy top so much but apart from that the fit is really nice and they have some really fun and colourful images! 😀

    • @michellepiazza7698
      @michellepiazza7698 Год назад

      @@JigsawJubie The Sunsout pieces fit ok. Other than the puzzle dust, what I do remember is the the puzzle experience was not the same between the 500 and 1000 piece puzzles I did. I liked the 1000 piece better, but not enough to buy another Sunsout puzzle.
      The Jacrou puzzles on the other hand ... ❣️

    I once did a Mona Lisa Puzzle from Clementoni and it was hell... Not surprised you didn't even attempt to do yours LOL.
    Good to know your thoughts about Printworks - for the regular, not on sale, price I'd expecting something a bit better.

      Ha ha yep! The Mona Lisa might be famous but it doesn't mean she makes for a good puzzle! 😆 Plus I have a much more fun version of the Mona Lisa by Trefl - it has her holding a ginger cat! 😁

I'm not sure if all their puzzles are made the same way but I'm not sure I can honestly be bothered to take the risk to find out. I have enough other puzzles to keep me busy! 😅
