  • ►Osaka Food Guide: migrationology....
On Day 7 in Osaka, we headed straight to eat one of the best bowls of ramen I’ve ever had in my life, and after that we ate okonomiykai.
1:20 Ramen Yashichi (らーめん弥七) - Just down the street from where we were staying, there was a ramen restaurant that Dwight took us to, called Ramen Yashichi (らーめん弥七). It’s a very famous ramen restaurant in Osaka, and from the moment they open their doors for lunch (and before), there’s typically a line waiting outside. We waited in line in anticipation, and finally got in and ordered. It turned out to be probably the finest bowl of ramen I’ve had, really incredibly good.
    Ramen Yashichi (らーめん弥七)
    Address: 3-4-8 Toyosaki, Kita-ku, Osaka-shi, Osaka
Open hours: 11 am - 4 pm on weekdays only (closed on Saturday and Sunday)
How to get there: Ramen Yashichi (らーめん弥七) is very close to Nakatsu Subway station. Once you exit the station, walk east, and the ramen restaurant is just before you reach the main highway.
6:03 Okonomiyaki Kiji (きじ) - After an incredible bowl of ramen, we headed over to the Umeda Sky Building where we went to a restaurant called Okonomiyaki Kiji (きじ) to eat one of Osaka’s most famous foods - okonomiyaki.
Okonomiyaki still isn’t my favorite food, but this was pretty good, and what I really liked about the restaurant is that the chef was extremely nice and friendly. A great place to try okonomiyaki when you’re in Osaka.
    Okonomiyaki Kiji (きじ)
    Address: 1-1-90 Oyodonaka, Kita-ku | B1F Umeda Sky Bldg., Osaka 531-0076, Osaka
Open hours: 11:30 am - 9:30 pm from Friday - Wednesday (closed on Thursday)
How to get there: Okonomiyaki Kiji (きじ) is located on the basement floor of the beautiful Umeda Sky Building. It’s about a 10 minute walk from Osaka Station.

Hi Mark, not sure if you will see or read this comment but after hearing you say Okonomiyaki is not one of your favourite foods, and after seeing the Osaka style you ate where the batter and cabbage is all mixed up together into one big pancake, I totally would agree with you, However, you need to try the Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki which is a whole different experience that would uses a thin crepe style pancake on the bottom with lots of cabbage on top. It is out of this world. If you ever make it to Tokyo I would be more than happy to take you to the best Okonomiyaki restaurant in Japan...bar none. Love your videos and have watched you for a couple of years now.

Hello, I'm a residence of Osaka city. I'm enjoying your posts these days.
Thank you very much for your yummy-posts about Osaka and Kobe.
My favorite Osaka's dishes are "Kaiseki" at most expensive traditional restaurants, say Kicchou, Uoman etc.
Traditional Japense dishes became "perfect" in Osaka.
It will cost you tens thousand yen though, please try them if you are interested in them,
because it is the authentic Osaka's dishes.
My favorite Okinomiyaki restaurant is Turuya near Tenma Sutation.
I love their Mix-Modern-Yaki. Also, please try it if you want.
I hope your trip in Osaka becomes the best trip ever for you.

I have been to this restaurant when I visited Japan, and discovered it just by walking by on the way to town. When I came back 15 min before opening time I saw a huge queue so straight away I knew it must be good. I got thrown off by the vendor machine, but fortunately I was with some friends who showed me the system. I have been to Japanese restaurants in other countries outside Japan but nothing ever tastes as amazing as this. The care and way the create this food is amazing. It is truly an artform.

Hi Mark, great videos. I have a question though. The last time I went abroad and tried to film my experience I was threatened by locals trying to take and break my camera equipment. I wasn't filming people, just the scenery and the places around me. This experience really put me off from filming my experiences abroad and when I do I am not able to capture as much footage as I want, fearing for my own safety. Have you ever experienced this before? Do you usually ask for permission before filming? Thanks again for these great videos, keep up the great work.

    • @MarkWiens
      @MarkWiens  9 лет назад +41

+bioroid09 Thank you very much and for sharing your experience. I have never experienced something so severe like that, but I have been told to turn off the camera numerous times. I think it could really depend on the country / culture you're in. I'd really encourage you to go for it again. I think times are changing and cameras and phones are so common that less and less people care. Thank you for your support.

+Bangkok Fatty I've noticed that with many eateries in Japan because of the small sizes and demand, you don't have time to sit there enjoy meal and chat.

I love it how japanese always try to explain things in japanese even if you don't have any idea but at the end you kinda feel like you understood.
