  • Welcome to the lounge at Victoria Harbour in beautiful Victoria, BC, Canada! This video kicks off with a breathtaking arrival - Harbour Air’s newest De Havilland Twin Otter, painted in the striking livery of the Canadian flag, swoops right over my head for a picture-perfect landing. Next, another Twin Otter taxis and ascends gracefully into the sky. But that’s just the beginning! Get ready for the highlight - four classic De Havilland Otters, including one built in 1956, two from 1954, and the grand finale, a 1953 Otter. Watch as one takes off and the other three make majestic landings. This seaplane spectacle is a true celebration of De Havilland’s timeless magic - sit back and enjoy!
    I want to take a moment to acknowledge that this footage was captured on the unceded territory of the Lekwungen people of the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations.

    I worked in northern Canada in the 1980s exploring for minerals. We used these magnificent twin otters to fly from our base camp to outlying locations where we were doing our exploration work.

      @larrysernyk6154, Thanks for stopping by Larry, I am truly grateful for your kind words and support. What a great way you had to move around up north, in a magnificent Twin Otter. You had an interesting job in the '80's. I can well imagine you some some beautiful scenery, especially from the window of a Twin Otter. Best....Corrie

      @gettingold59, Allan, Your favourite is my favourite too. I heard that the little red and white Beaver that crashed will fly again. It would be neat to see the Beaver, the Otter and the Twin Otter all at the dock lined up together. I really hope the Beaver that crashed is being rebuilt. Hope all is well on your side of the country. I am truly grateful for your always kind words and support, thank you. Best...Corrie

      I think that is the case with many of us in the lounge. That Canadian flag livery just looks good as shown by the Twin Otter and before it crashed the Beaver.

      @mothmagic1 @gettingold59, I have been painstakingly gong through all of my seaplane videos and searching for seaplanes with cool livery. There are over 1200 videos that range from 30 seconds to 35 minutes in my library. It has been a huge undertaking and will take me a little while to cherry pick the footage. It's a lot of work, and I'm not sure how to deal with the audio. I'll figure it out, stay tuned. Some of the livery is pretty awesome. I can put the Beaver, the Otter and the Twin Otter in the Canadian livery in the same video!! I'm such a geek....lol Best....Corrie

      @@leftcoastcorrie I'm sure that will be some great tributes. I think a combination of music, commentary and lowering of the volume might help for the very windy sequences. But, try to keep the roaring engine sounds when you can.

      @Astromechy, I will cherry pick the footage :) It has taken me many hours to scrape each video to see what's in the footage. I've added each clip to the timeline that has a "special seaplane" but haven't actually watched or listened to the clips. I still have a a few hundred videos to wade through. What was I thinking?...lol. It's a huge project, I better get it right. I agree, I will make sure the roaring engine sounds will be the "choice" videos. Best....Corrie

    We never want to miss your seaplane action Corrie. I don't know what the prices are like now but I seem to remember them as an inexpensive way to get around the harbour if you don't have the time or inclination to walk.

      @mothmagic1, Ian, your kind words, engagement and support means the world to me, thank you from the bottom of my heart. The water taxi is a tad bit on the pricey side now, but is a great way to get across the harbour quickly. It's my favourite way to show visitors around the city, a water taxi ride. Best....Corrie

    Hey corrie i thought I should let you know that it seems that Harbour Air has plans to start NIGHT flying and the only HA aircraft i can really see doing the night flights with infrared would probably be the 4 twin otters and the 2 cessna grand caravan

      @leftcoastcorrie  18 дней назад

      @chrisotto6421, Chris, you share the most interesting information, and I sincerely thank you. That would be amazing if HA flew at night. HA has been making some "wait for it!" announcements on social media, but not really saying much. I wonder if this is what they are making reference to? Time will tell. Thanks Chris, I am truly grateful for your always kind words, knowledgeable engagement and support. Best...Corrie

    What happened to the otter that got hit by the boat ? Was it scrapped or in for a long and expensive rebuild. I hope they sued the boat owner for cost

      @gettingold59, too funny, I mentioned it in the last comment about the little Beaver. Rumour has it, it is being rebuilt. The Transportation Safety Board hasn't given their findings yet. I imagine it is a whole bunch of mistakes. Time will tell. Best...Corrie

      The seaplane sustained significant damage in the June 8th accident. However, planes have been known to come back to service after near total destruction. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has stated that this is a class 3 investigation, which can take up to 450 days to complete all three (3) phases of an investigation. They are through the field phase, and have moved into the examination and analysis phase (which can be quite lengthy). I suspect that the report phase with happen by the start of next year. At that time, the plane will be released and repairs (if deemed viable) can be started.

      @Astromechy, fingers crossed that we will see the beloved Beaver fly again. It will interesting to see how the TSB determines the cause. Best....Corrie
