Years ago, I saw a u-tube video of Filipino guy using a Contra to cut boards out of log in the vertical direction with the tip of the bar. He was standing up and holding the handle with his right hand, and his right elbow on his hip. The bar had to be at least 36" long, and on that big saw, it made him look tiny. But here he was, one handing board after board with great precision, all while using his left hand for his cigarette. His skill and strength blew me away.
The 56cc version started with the 029 super that had orange fuel caps. The 290 are super choked down if you take the deflector off and open the muffler up and retune will gain a bunch.
Had the 029 super for a long time. The difference between it and my son’s 029 farmboss ,it had a 1 mm larger bore , 8 pin spur sprocket, 325 chain. Whereas my son’s was 3/8 , 7 pin .
The contra lightning did have a plastic top, serial number and model is on front of rewind. Green tag, that’s an old one probably 1959 model first year. Has no Stihl stamp on rewind, roller for rope, tall back handle and looks like no tank vent. So early run and will sell easy if you want rid of it. Contra is the predated the 070 at 106 and the 090 is 136
I've pretty much figured it out, I think. I believe it is a contra with a 070 or 090 cylinder on it. That's why I can't get the top cover to fit. Contra had the spark plug coming out almost horizontal. This one has it going straight up and the top cover can't go down far enough.

Pretty sweet first saw haul in NY👍🏻 for the old boat anchor? Not sure. Some sweet old tractor of a Stihl😁

Same as cars getting to be: Easy to work on.

The contra s was 136 cc also like the 090
I find that I think the old versions of the chainbrale is the coolest one!
I need that chain brake cover
It’s cool old saw
Those bars are cool!
Original 029 was 54cc the 029 super was 56cc. They went to the ms series and just made all the 290 56cc.
…shellfish allergy
Damn you scored some good parts and saws. If you want to sell the 55 fuel tank i might be a buyer.
Nice.....i would dream of finding someone that shut down 20 yrs ago and just now sells nos parts haha
there was a guy on market place a couple weeks ago that closed his dealership and had 5 buckets of nos parts for sale cheap.
Husqvarna 61 still a better option than a ms290
The 290 sounded like it was from a different dimension... 😨
👍👍 want to get rid of the chain brake for the 266 w/flag?
how much did you charge him to take that saw?
My guesses to play along
1.Husqvarna 61 fuel tank
2.Husqvarna 272 chain brake
3.Jonsered 625 chain brake
4. dont know - no kidding, I'd want that
Yes make a sleeper saw out of it
👍🆙️BigGuy
Nice bet you got a good deal on that eh
That's when men were men that ran those saws. Beat tha shit out of a cross cut saw.
Is the heater catching up?
stihl contra 1106 1959 was first year
contra 1106 106 CC 58mm x 40mm 6 HP at 7k 26.4 lbs first year 1959 they were more of a red color
Google Stihl vintage chainsaw lineup. I was just looking last week.. 1959 contra 07
I don't think its a contra S or lightning s on those the plug is angled into the top of the cylinder my guess is just a contra
contra 06 or 07
Definitely not an 070/090. It’s a Contra, not sure which variant

The 59 lightning had a plastic top cover.
Dogging my 290 brother 😢 jk
