    Good vid!
    Do have a couple corrections/extra info.
    An NB1 1.8 in an NA 1.8 is an easy swap (Even easier then the NA 1.8 in an NA 1.6 because you don't need any adapters of any sort).
    Just swap all the electronic parts (Sensors, injector wiring, alternator etc) of the NA engine on the NB engine.
    In some countries (Not sure exactly wich but i know the US has this) the NB1 had a returnless fuel system so you need to sort out the fuel rail. In Europe the NB1 has a return!
    This way it will run fine on the stock NA 1.8 ECU.
    All NA's have the big starter motor, the smaller and lighter are all NB (Even the 5speed).
    Think you need to modify the dust shield a bit to use the NB starter motor on an NA gearbox and only two of the three bolts are usable. Not completely sure on this never tried this swap myself, but i've red about it.
    Not in all countries the NB2 had the 6speed and the bigger sport brakes unfortunately :(
    The NB uses a slightly different upper balljoint so if you're going to use the NB font hub on an NA you also need to use the upper arm.
    I've compared NA and NB rear hubs. And the only difference that i could find was that the hole in the upper mount isn't in the middle on the NB hub like it is on the NA hub.
    So it only has less camber and it isn't actually 5mm wider.
    Sorry but i really hate that there is a ton of old/misinformation in the Miata community and it annoys the shit out of me.
    I do really appreciate that at least some people are releasing some good Miata content on youtube, unlike alot of the crappy ones.

    • @RicSupra
      @RicSupra 5 лет назад +1

      Ethan Vermillion And thats why you swap all electronics from an NA1.8 engine onto an NB 1.8. Then it is plug and play.

    • @RicSupra
      @RicSupra 5 лет назад +2

      @Ethan Vermillion No... you're not getting it... The NB1 1.8 (BP4W) is for the most part the same engine as the NA 1.8, only some minor differences. But the base is still the same so all the NA sensors, CAS, throttle body, coil pack, alternator, valve cover (Although you dont need to swap this but you're left with a hole or an unused sensor on the front) etc. bolt onto the NB engine! This way you can just use the stock ecu, stock wiring etc. from the NA!!
      So this makes it exactly like you would swap in an NA 1.8 engine back in but with better flowing head, slightly higher compression, solid lifters.
      Exactly like alot of people are doing with the NA 1.8 swap in an NA 1.6 chassis but without the need for any adapters etc. so its easier.

    • @RicSupra
      @RicSupra 5 лет назад +2

      @Ethan Vermillion As i said the stock NA 1.8 ecu. It can easily run the slighlty higher compression ratio without a problem.

      Thank you RicSupra, there's so many small variances in the different markets around the world so it can be tricky to get the exact data for every case, and people would certainly get bored if I started reciting off all the exact specifics haha! Nonetheless, thanks for sharing your detail :-)

    Hi. Found this a very handy video. I myself have an NA and a wrecked NB (VVT). I'm not interested in installing the interior into the NA but was wondering on some things. The NB has ABS and ODB2 so have you donea you done a "nervous system" (electrical system) swap . I understand there are differences in some stuff but thats OK as I'm planning a full strip down and rebuild. What I'm not sure on is the benifit in going ODB2. Any thoughts?

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  10 месяцев назад

      Glad you enjoy the video. Certainly for me swapping the whole wiring from the NB into the NA meant the ABS and functions like OBD2, as you mention, all worked and were plug and play.
      I personally wouldnt have gone through the effort just for OBD2, it was merely a convenient benefit of necessity.

  • @alphabloodfox

    I have a question when it comes to the main wiring harnesses going through the firewall (btw this video is suuuch a life saver and thankyou). The NB has 3 holes instead of 2 for the NA on the firewall for the wiring harnesses(which I think I see the 3rd middle oval hole in the video). Did you just cut it out and use "u channel" or did you make a rolled lip like the other holes have? Sorry this was long and thank you very much again.

    • @Bbeavis

    G’day Brandan! M8 awesome video! Alexander White here from Facebook. Would you say the front subframe swap to an NA8 (I’m planning a VVT outa of an automatic 2001 & keep the 5 speed) is a big enough improvement in handling that’s worth the subframe swap? From what I understand the rear one doesn’t make too much difference. Thanks for your help as usual!!!

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  5 лет назад +1

      HI Alex, I can't personally see why you would go to the effort unless you had some justified need other than just handling. It's quite a lot of effort to swap and the net change is minuscule. Of course if you have the subframe out anyway, and had the chance to choose which one to use, the NB one is my first pick. You'll need to use the NB steering rack to match also. Cheers :-)

    • @japaneserandomarmwrestling2294
      @japaneserandomarmwrestling2294 5 лет назад +1

      BEAVIS Motorsport I see, I have heard a couple of guys say, & this in my head also seems to make sense. Dropping the engine with the subframe is a matter of 6 bolts and seems simpler in my mind than to fish out the engine out with a crane I also heard a person who preferred to drop the frame to swap his clutch rather than wrestling with the top bolts . After driving a stock NA8 97SR Limited on Bilsteins , then my last 94 NA8 Maxim header Corns muffler on Cusco coilovers and a pretty stock1992 NA6 with possibly Mazdaspeed option ratios , years later a 1999 on coilovers impressed the shit out of me. Maybe the quicker gear ratios... but the turn in is so spot on
      So basically I’m thinking if I do the VVT swap I might as well just do it with the entire subframe or am I not getting something here??

    • @japaneserandomarmwrestling2294
      @japaneserandomarmwrestling2294 5 лет назад +1

      Again mate I can’t wrap my head around how just the engine alone will be easier to swap VS the engine whilst still attached to the subframe with wheels and all minus wiring and AC fuel lines etc.... or am I tripping ... remove the subframe bolts on each car and literally drag/wheel the entire NA front out with body craned up, do the same on the NB, remove the automatic and even go to town on the radiator section with a power saw so no need to jack it up... oh and most likely will go with an aftermarket radiator setup...

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  5 лет назад +1

      Personally I prefer to lift the engine with a crane, or for a clutch swap i just drop the trans out underneath. I've never understood the desire to drop subframes for either of those tasks.

As such the strut bars are more of an inconvenience and mere engine bay bling than any kind of significant improvement in handling performance.
