    I appreciate your videos as I can no longer drive up to West Virginia. I have visit Thurmond and would mind living there.

    So tht coaling tower was for loading coal into the tenders of the steam locomotives. More than likely that building beside the tower couldve been a pump house for the water needed for the steam locomotives, which needed water roughly every 100 miles. Also oil and grease for locomotive maintenance.

    Nice job. My father is from Glen Jean. He and his family left in the 30’s. I’ve heard a lot of those same stories from him and my uncles. We’ve been back several times to visit and whitewater raft.

    No the new river does not dump into the Ohio the new and guley river come together and make the kanawha river

    Actually the main line of the C & O and now CSX has always been active. The branch line through Glen Jean was made active again in 1996.

    The water tanks for steam locomotives was on the round concrete you saw
