Had it and literally spent hours and hours of my childhood playing with it and loved every second of it.

I wish toys like this were available these days. My son would LOVE to play with them.

Love this thing! I got one for Christmas '85. It was the biggest Joe playset I had so it became my default HQ.

I remember this in the comics but never realised it was an actual toy. Off to ebay I go.....

Great review. I love how the TBP was pivotal in the Cobra Island issues. One aspect of the toy, which I personally loved, was the land bridge could be lowered to the water to retrieve the Devil Fish, or the WHALE sea sled. The WHALE would frequently fall under attack, get damaged, and be stuck pier side in some Gulf Coast town.
The underside of the bridge is angled to allow it to sit flat on the floor when lowered for launch or recovery. It also allowed for quick launch of the Devil Fish, as the Devil Fish fits perfectly in the recessed area left behind.

This toy was awsome, and easy beats anything made today. But every time I see these great retro toy reviews I can't help but ask what happened to toys and how have they fallen so far since the mid 90s?

The Tactical Battle Platform could withstand attacks from COBRA; but, sadly, not from my younger, toddler brother. RIP TBP 😢

Always wanted this as a kid, but was never fortunate enough to get one back then... NOT that I'm complaining, because I'm definitely not. My parents chose to get multiple figures and various sized vehicles FOR those figures, instead of ONE very nice playset and maybe a few figures and/or vehicles... So, I'm actually really grateful for everything that they were able to get me and my younger brother (who was big into MotU). I have no complaints there.
Back around Christmas time this past year (2021) though, I was finally able to add this awesome Platform playset to my GI Joe collection. Good thing I'm patient, lol. 😅😅😅 It's complete except for the rifles, which I have plenty of replacement rifles, so no problem there.
    Great job on this review!

Still got one of these in the box but my favourite play set is a toss up between the action force headquarters or the z force command centre

Play sets like this are just fantastic fun as a kid (and adult) Sadly I think the retailers don't want to use all the shelf space these days and as such kids today miss out.

I got one of these last year on E bay for quite a bit of money. I never had one as a kid, but my friend had it and I loved it. I found one in my attic TODAY. I have no idea where it came from. I think there is a G I Joe headquarters up there too, and I never had one of those either. I have no idea where they came from, but I'm not going to ask any questions.

Love the review. I was only about 3 when this play set came out, and this is the first I'm hearing of it, but it certainly looks like great fun! As a kid I only had some vehicles and figures for GI Joe, I never had any play sets. The scale and versatility of this one is really impressive.

I totally agree with the score I army build so I have three of these and besides the guns they are really easy to complete or restore and this is crucial for the battle scenes in the water but also on land as well

    I'm truly baffled !
    I don't remember this at all .
Not even a commercial for it .
I've owned or seen everything else in the vintage line back in the 80's as a child and as an adult collector .
So , where here the heck ?!?? ....

The battle platform wasn’t $11.99 in the US. I think it was over 20 USD. The VAMP and the Water Moccasin were $9.99 each, and The Pit was $24.99. Was the exchange rate between Australian and American currency differ that much back then?

  • @malaciczahkhav2480

11.99! omg i wish toys were at that price and at that quality! sigh i wish hasbro still made Gi joe at 3.75 like the modern ones 25th and 50th anniversary; i know not all like those ones. i just really enjoyed them while i was enlisted and picked up my hobby of toy building.

    • @shanehai2699
      @shanehai2699 2 года назад +1

Well, to be fair, depending on where you lived growing up, they weren't necessarily available on shelves in certain areas (like my small town), and we had no Wal-Mart, target or TRU's close by... Plus, as someone said here, in the States it was more like $20 back then, which essentially made it a "$75-100 toy" compared to today's prices. Inflation SUCKS!😅😅😅
