Wow, never seen Catarina look so stressed before (at the beginning of the video). At the very least she adds an extra dimension to your experiences (and videos) so you need to look after her regardless of how you are feeling. Another great video and a brilliantly unorthodox take on an Englishman in Indonesia.
What a series Ben spending 16 hours on a ferry with Cat I think everyone wants the next video to be your greatest adventure of all time were you ask Cat to marry you. What great chemistry you both have you truly make a nice couple. You owe her a better VIP experience than a gym smelling room.
Ben, I've always enjoyed your videos, but you and Cat together are a great combo. You keep each other motivated and smiling, I love it. This video is amazing. Also, what is it with this part of the world and mind-bu*geringly loud music everywhere you go? haha
Glad to see you got to see some volcanoes after all, those are quite something, bigger and better than the one at Rabaul - the trip to see the Rabaul one is not quite so arduous, but way more expensive. The boy did good. We all appreciate you toughing it for content Ben, and Cat is genuinely lovely - still looked fab after that long ferry ride. ❤
That moment when you walk around the corner and see the bed layout 😂😂😂😂 and that bad music follows you like a bad smell!! Your faces say it all, you are so funny 🤣 …. you guys rock!!! Seriously love the two of you doing adventures together…. Excellent adventure again and beautiful volcano ❤🎉😊👍🏻
🌴🌴🌴 Hi 👋🏼 Ben and 👋🏼KAT. I’ve been enjoying watching some of your older videos but I think I’ve watched this one already. Blessings from Paso Robles California, Carlos
I took that ferry from Ende to Kupang in 2016 - it looks like its a different ship to the one I was on, sleeping quarters were grimmer with rows and rows of grotty beds that were in worse shape than the ones you filmed. Lots of mice scurrying around and other creepy crawlies - I was offered a cabin being the only foreigner but as it was a day boat, managed quite a good sleep up on deck in a quiet corner. Indonesian ferries when I was last there were not the greatest.
I think you should also be grateful there wasn't a full catering service - a friend of mine was served just a fish head and rice on a Pelni ferry as she was the only the foreigner on there - they wanted to give her what they considered the best bit of the fish...
excellent video thx Ben and Cat for travelling the places less travelled a really interesting journey this island hopping will be a great series waiting for the next up load :D ...... the people seem really good and friendly
Backpacker Ben you my man are an absolute legend. Cheers to you and Catarina with infinite love from the USA, ya'll have to make a USA trip. Motivating me to travel more this year for sure!
You should visit the Toba caldera in Sumatra, it's the remnants of a supervolcano, think Yellowstone, that nearly wiped out humanity 74000 years ago, only a few thousand humans survived the eruption. Mount Toba is dormant today but not extinct, the magma chamber under it is still active, its next eruption is estimated to occur in roughly 600000 years from now so we've got time. For now, the massive caldera has become a lovely lake with an island in the middle. I was there in 2015 and it's quite a beautiful place considering that it's a giant volcano that could destroy all life on Earth, but then Yellowstone is also a pretty place.
Maximum respect to you and Cat enduring these 16 hour journeys for our entertainment - loving all your recent videos Ben, top drawer (or top bunk as it were)😂. Excited to see more BackpackerBen adventures. Quality.
You were really getting into the music playing on the ferry! After so long, I saw your foot getting with it. I did think we were going to read about you falling into the volcano when you slipped there. I am with you, I think if you hit that water it's over. Enjoy your videos, thanks for taking us with you! That was some VIP room...
Ship companies in West Indonesia provide rooms for long journeys & also provide canteens/small restaurants :) I live on a small island in western indonesia, so I often use ships to travel to other islands. but I've never tried taking a ship to eastern Indonesia so far.
Awesome Vlog Ben and Kat, Ben mate she is a keeper for sure, not many girls would do that and still smile, hope you get to do plenty more together, safe travels Bro : @ )
Watching these videos of yours really makes me miss my travels in SE Asia. I've been fortunate enough to spend a total of 8 weeks in that part of the world over the last several years, but I would love to be able to spend so much more time over there.
That was a hell boat trip for you guys! No food, BO and stinky feet inside and more dodgy music to listen too. Then a tsunami warning..what doesn't kill you makes you stronger Ben? I'd sooner take my kayak across the sea!
Loving this series with you and Cat. Her laugh at the end when you teased a 14 hour bus ride the day after. She can’t wait! Brilliant. Thanks for sharing!
Really loved then video man! Too late now - but here’s something that could have solved your food problem on the ship. Buy some bottled water and ask them to microwave the noodles using that water 😂
Sailing on the slowest sleeper ferry? Well, it's like a bedtime story that never ends! You board as you would tuck yourself into bed, and by the time you wake up, you're still in the chapter where the ship just got out of the harbor! Kidding aside, it seems like pretty unique and nice experience. I've been in the cities of Indonesia for our TV show but not as far as this but this video totally inspires me to go further!
ASDP, the ferry operator is known as one of, if not THE worst state-owned public transport company. Aside from the Merak-Bakauheni and Ketapang-Gilimanuk route, there's nothing good about them
took me some time to figure out why you were calling people cats😂.... Interesting experience, don't think I would do it myself, but... certainly some amazing morning views. I've once been on an active volcano with multicolored acid pools (albeit it was much less of a journey, only 6 or so hours by a local bus)... also was quite a story though... when I was there, the whole place (including the huge crater-side meditation Dzong and monastery dating back to the 11th century) was enveloped into a huge storm of mist, resulting from a mixture of unusually high geologic activity and the remnants of the previous nights typhoon... the earth and everything was trembling and hissing, and at times it was nearly impossible to see anything through the thick sheets of steam rain & geyser water trailing in the winds... then briefly the strange shaped rocks appeared, in overhanging ghostly, almost animate, shapes... having spent half a day I stopped to grab a brief rice ball in the only open café (it was 10 in the evening by then), before getting the night-bus back to civilization... next morning, I found out the volcano had erupted in the night (thankfully, it being well off-season, there were no casualties, but the campsite I had originally planned to stay the night at had weather cooperated, was totally destroyed)

The mental torture of it all really oozes through to the viewers. I feel like just going to bed and getting a good calm relaxing night of sleep right about now.
Hey mister, you're going to have to start saying "we" are going on the ferry. Lol I know it's your channel but we all know Kat isn't going anywhere for awhile! ✌🏼

One reason I try to avoid ro-ro ferries as much as possible when travelling by sea in Indonesia is that they're slow af. Next time, try Pelni ships instead. Just a tad bit faster but way more comfy
Oh man...Ben...Cat...ive said it before on previous videos, but I would highly suggest bringing some earplugs with you. The bizarre and very loud music thats blasted on busses and boats on that side of the world is enough to drive someone crazy. You can buy a pair of high rated earplugs for $2.00 at the very most and stash them in your pocket. They'll seriously provide you with relief during these times. I would probably end up jumping off the boat if i were subjected to that kind of torture ! 🙉🙉🙉
I would do that trip, not so sure about the VIP experience, but it is definitely an experience. Crazy part is that is an island so do you have to do the same journey to move on?
Man, we are so privileged these days. And I don’t just mean “wealthy foreigners” visiting these far flung places. I mean in general. I’ve read some wild stories on the the treachery the early Europeans went thru while settling (stealing) America. Long, long weeks trudging through ice and snow, days and days without food in the desert, being abandoned by your party as you attempt to cross the Rockies, etc. etc. Even former US Presidents like Teddy Roosevelt did these sort of things while exploring the Adirondacks and other parts of the nation. There were not planes, trains, busses and automobiles. There were no trails or roads, just hearty men and women exploring a new land. Now we have ferries that carry you 16 hours to an island in the middle of nowhere that will have drivers on tuk tuk’s or motorbikes to bring you to your hotel with running water and a bathroom. We’ve come a long way in the past century, and we’ve all gotten mighty softer from it. Thank god! Lol. Terrific video Ben and Cat! Can’t wait to see the rest of your adventures. You’re truly following in the footsteps of our ancestors 😅 *Edit* You Missed the Thumbnail brother 26:49
The music you heard in the bus going to Kelimutu is folk music from west sumatra which is very far awayy It's so random hearing that in the eastern part of Indonesia, maybe the drivers or bus owner is frkm west sumatra
Earthquake and tsunami are like once twice a year thing for locals not a big deal. Also in Indonesia you considered as a lazy person if you wake up later than 5AM. Noise pollution laws barely enforced so you just have to deal with it. Feel bad for Katrian thou. Komodo next?
Oh man i can relate to you guys listening to the annoying music so heavy. Some people cannot or will not understand that others around them don't want to be subjected to loud irritating music. Its not that im old its that I understand decency and treating people with respect. No matter what genre it is, it just is so draining to have to listen to somebody else's shit music taste for very long
My Heavens! Video game music again! For food you could have asked the guys selling the cup noodles to use the bottled water you purchased. Next look for some beef jerky to take with you, because the crisp and cookies will just make you more hungry.
On the ferry, why didn't you guys have them prepare the noodles with the bottled water you bought? You mentioned that you got the runs from what you thought was the water used previously to make the noodles, so I don't understand why you didn't have them make it with the bottled water?
Big shout out to Catarina for doing these grueling long journeys and keeping me motivated to film

You’re truly following in the footsteps of our ancestors 😅
*Edit* You Missed the Thumbnail brother 26:49
The music you heard in the bus going to Kelimutu is folk music from west sumatra which is very far awayy
It's so random hearing that in the eastern part of Indonesia, maybe the drivers or bus owner is frkm west sumatra
Hi Ben. All the best you two.
cheers!!
Earthquake and tsunami are like once twice a year thing for locals not a big deal. Also in Indonesia you considered as a lazy person if you wake up later than 5AM. Noise pollution laws barely enforced so you just have to deal with it. Feel bad for Katrian thou. Komodo next?
She already showed to be tougher than we all think, and I find it awesome!😎
That music would have made me want to jump of the boat and swim out to sea.
Nearly did
@@BackpackerBen 🤣🤣🤣
I love your travels Ben really interesting
Have a think now 🧠
@@BackpackerBen ?
Surely they use that music in Guantanamo bay?
They seriously should
It’s starting to seem like your channel is turning into a crazy method of transport review channel Ben 😂
One more to come 😂
Amazing, I'm going to maumere soon!
It must be impossible to rest with that noise they call music.
With that situation I'm sure Ben was more stressed there than in Afghanistan or Venezuela
Wish your videos were longer than usual. Love to see your adventures and suffering
Thanks 🙏🏼 🫠🤷🏼♂️🤝
When the ocean is getting more and more tempting to take an everlasting dive 😅. Good heavens what lovely tunes!
