  • this is how i fixed mine gear issues.. jumping out of gear and struggling to find neutral

    Thanks for the video. I have a thumpstar with the zs 190. And pulled the motor To rebuild it and the clutch basket removal with the grooved washer is what I was looking for

    Nice informative video. Tip: get yourself a torque wrench and a clutch holder, it saves you from overtightening stuff and stripping bolts. Ask me how I know. 😁

    how do we correctly put the clutch cover on we have tried several times and there feel like no clutch cable limp noodle on lever any help guys much appreciated

    Hey I'm From Greece, its worth this engine??? Its value for money?? Its reliable?? Because I want to buy this engine to go rides with my friends and race some guys 😀😜 what is your opinion to buy this engine or not???

      Definitely the best engine. If your friends are riding 140 engines, they will be revving hard at 60mph and the 190 will then go into 5th gear. They have 2 faults...."the star shift (that video) and starter chain does break.. Change that about 1000 miles and have" idle speed7tick over" at just over 2000rpm

    How do you make the selector strong enough to not slip off or break? I've fixed mine 4 times now and I haven't even had the bike for a year.

      i am not to sure what you mean... i made sure the biggest washer i fitted was a thick one,,

      Thanks man, will be doing this to my bike, did it work better with this mod? My 190 slips in to neutral from 1st to third, 4th holds strong, but if you're going to slow for the 5th gear, it shunts every 2 - 3 seconds, until you get to the right speed, then it holds strong, and goes about 140 - 150kph on the highway, on a 14" rear wheel. Shifting down is rubbish, every time you shift down, it goes into neutral, so you have to shift twice for it to click in to the gear. Same as shift up, you have to shift twice from 1st to third.

      @@keithiowight I was thinking of getting the genuine Dayton anima 190, 4 speed. You don't have to do anything to them, they just don't have a electric starter. And the gear box is about 10 - 20mm thinner.

      keithiowight does every gear shift smooth with no kick back , like is it smooth as butter with no issues? Or any bad kickback when going into first or any other gear?

    my zs190 is brand new zero miles. Im able to shift into all gears when the engine is not running but when it is running i can only shift into 1st. have to turn engine off the shift anywhere else. I know it isnt the shifter hitting the case and i have adjusted the clutch cable and clutch arm so therea few mm to zero slack before it engages. do you have any other ideas?

    What are the washer sizes? ID, OD, thick?

      If you watch the start of the video, there is a a shot of the washers and a tape measure.. That should help with the I'd and od of the washers, and they are just standard washers, so the thinness will be a couple of millimetres... Hope this helps.. I also THINK that you may be able to do this without removing the clutch

    You saved me. Thank you so much for posting. Mine is literally never in gear, I ride with slight pressure on the shift lever to keep it from jumping into false neutrals. 400 miles in. I stunt it, but I don't think that should affect the shift star, I never would've figured it out on my own...I thought it was clutch problems

    how does this engine run on the honda cub? is it a smooth engine,also capable of putting around low revs as the stock engine does?

      It is a good little motor.. You can be in 5th doing 35mph, and it will pull from there, up to its top speed,... Still in 5th.

      about 17 seconds into the video, there is a shot of the washers set against a tape measure. something very close to those sizes will work....make sure the large washer is a thick one

    On my zs 190 the output shaft keeps breaking of when kicking where the kickstarter idle gear sits on.

      I’ve replaced the broken shaft once and I’m getting ready to do it again this time with new crank casings too as they got damaged. I will try to get the shaft strengthened or hardened this time. Will post a vid when I do it.

      @@PetesWorkshop i gave the shaft to a metal workshop to repair, when i get it back i will uninstall all the kickstarter shit. The only way to start it ir rolling it on then.

      @@PetesWorkshop you should better soften the end of the shaft , it breaks because its to hardened

      The little gear selector arm gets off its place some times, which makes the engine shift wrong

      they can start to jump out of gear or neutral is hard to find

      @@keithiowight yeah, on my zongshen the gearbox output shaft keeps breaking of..
      I have put a new one in and it lasted 1 ride, next day it broke the first kick...
