Nice work you saved a lot . I can’t believe they didn’t put the shims back in. That’s why your camber was off when you put the new leaf springs on. I’mglad you caught it. A lot of people don’t know you should jack up the truck before you grease it and take the weight off the shackles, then let it down. It’s easier for the grease to get in the pins smart move. I can’t believe they didn’t put the shims underneath the saddle, and sometimes the left spring has more of an arch on it in the passenger side because the driver is sitting on the left side and it evens out you might not had to change that spring.
Oh man, hope you work it out. Every days a school day and I know all diesel mecs have access to data sheets online detailing the specs of every part on every machine, have you thought of posting your struggles with Big Blue on forums for suggestions? Your very brave to take on these jobs on your own.... Get her done brother :)
I’ve been on a bunch of forums reading about the guys that had the same problem like I have, but unfortunately doesn’t seem like anybody knows what they are talking about on there. So I just decided not to post mine.
hey bandit , really hope by replacing the leaf springs you can fix blue beast sir you've done a lot to it ,spent a lot of money and time and effort its not easy sir , thank you for this cool video stay safe god bless you
I just saw two truckers that I'm subscribed to do this very job within a few days of each other! You and FSC Trucking. Save all your parts unless they are total junk! Yeah baby... I like it raw. Good O'l Dirty B. (not recommended with Richard's mom!!)
The way I look at things is, if it works, is it really a bad idea, but then again I used to jump out of perfectly serviceable aircraft for a living. Keep up the great work my friend. 🇬🇧
Very good job! You are the man you can fix your own truck which is good you save the money you need to get other things you want. Sorry you had to fix it twice but you could see it was bent so now lets hope thatit does the job! Let see how it works on the next trip thank you for sharing your fix. Stay safe till the next one. 🙏
Good job Bandit, not bad for an owner operator. Hope you don’t mind if I remind you to retighten after a few miles, particularly the U bolts. Ps always good to put some grease on pins etc before install.
Hopefully that works my friend, i thought thats what it maybe from the beginning, i had an old chevy 1985 pick up that did some of the same stuff, stay safe out there my brother!!!
Bandit, I forgot to mention, when you have the alignment rechecked, mention the position of the caster shims, if they were reversed the caster would increase.
I’m glad you changed all the parts that you bought bc if you didn’t change the $500 hangars, you’d always wonder if that could be the issue down the road. Plus, you were right there, might as well do it. The ease at which those shocks compressed is a little concerning to me. I know they’re relatively new, but I don’t think they’re suppose to be that easy to compress. Essentially, all you have is the spring doing all the work and maybe that’s why it’s hitting the bump stops. Time to trash the shocks and convert to air ride. You’ve already come this far.
C RICHARD WHEN YA KNOW HOW TO DO SHIT YA DONT NEED HELP AT THE SHOP HERE IN PIT LANE I GITRR DONE /TELL MOM IF SHE NEEDS IT DONE RITE 💯 JUST FOR THE TIME IT TAKES I CAN CHANGE PIT LANE TOO LOVERS LANE BUT NEVER FORGET IM NOT CHEAT ITLL COST HER 💯 % /// BAND//// FIREHOUSE /// SONG /// LOVERS LANE ///HAVE A GOOD ONE BUDDY
that drivers side front spring pin when you greased it the inside pin was not tightened, look at video time 57:20 you see bolt undone on inside of spring pin
Gday Bandit Hopefully that missing locating shim was the cause of your problems allowing the truck to slide on the spring ? Excellent video Mate, Just goes to show what you can achieve if you set your mind to it ! Take Care Mate
Thank you my friend for your time videoing this.. I was wondering if at some point, having an alignment way back when, & which ever shop did it, put the wrong size castor spacers on, and since then until you changed the leaf springs, B.B. needs a different spacer on driver side & passenger side ? Again, hope this fixes the issue, have a Modelo or three.. Be safe.
im very surprised as many exsert shop thats been tryin to figure ur problem out u had a leaf spring hanger bad i think i told u a while back it was in ur front spring action i always work on my ownstuff to fix it rite them guys just what the money they fix it to break again
There was definitely a few red flags with that front end that could have been the culprit for Blue's lane etiquette. Here's hoping you got things squared away and you can keep it between the mustard and the mayonnaise and shiny side up.
Brah, I sincerely hope this fixes the " wandering problem " Big Blue has been having ! Also, since your doing " surgery " on B.B., hope you gave a few Modelo's to help control B.B.'s pain from surgery....
The two grease spots on the same leaf spring and with the saddle removed….. the alignment shims not installed and centering pin. I bet that was the issue.
well evidently the pin in the hanger was getting in a hard binddidnt have any action they seem pretty frozen use to change my oil 12 to 14 thousand miles my 84 359 held 12 gallons it had the ole lube finde cannister ahead of the driver door and power steering cannister look damn cool air filter on passengers side
Hate to say it but that caster shim isn’t enough on your truck . Also the black shim under the caster shim isn’t correct. Looks like too many dummy’s got ahold of your truck. Sad that alignment shops dicking you around for 50 bucks work of 8 degree shims . Plus axle not pined to front axle. Needs way more caster than that. I believe it might even have wrong rear spring hangers but thats a guess with out measuring. So frustrating to see you suffer with this.
All of these parts that I put on our factory parts. I gave them my VIN number and this is what they gave me. I talked to one alignment shop about putting 8 degree shim in there and he said he would not do it because it’s dangerous.
@@OTRBandit well I’ll tell you this. The guy that told you it’s dangerous is a complete incompetent a hole. Only thing increased camber does is make steering a bit harder at stop( something most of us know) but increased stability at speed. Most of the idiots doing alignments are only taught by the manufacturer of alignment machine and specs the oem gives them. Gliders are a different game when getting things correct. Sadly i think i know exactly the feeling your getting being a driver, owner operator also a suspension designer for many different vehicles. If your ever in PA go see Ferguson. His builds will do triple digits loaded all day long … no wander No stability problems. I actually dont see any center pins in your springs reaching down to axle either. I could be wrong on that… those black blocks we toss in the garbage. It lowers front of truck about an inch. Wanna call your alignment guys bluff? Tell him to get you 8 degree wedges ! He cant as he wont know were of how. This pisses me off. As i have done this for a living. Fixed so many problems it sickens me how simple geometry isnt taught to these a holes that set the tow and go. 10 min job with a tape measure a 15 year kid could do. Sorry buddy hate to see you suffer because of others stupidity

I was thinking the same thing about the center bolt not long enough to reach through that black spacer and the shim. What's keeping the axle from moving forward and backward ? Only the friction. I maybe missed something ?
Your willingness to tackle these not so easy jobs amazes me. Best of luck to you Bandit. 👍🏼
Thank you so much, buddy. It definitely wasn’t easy, but it was a lot easier than I thought it would be thank God.

Now you can sit in the hot tub with a cold beer and you’re pretty lady next to you. You save a lot of money buddy. Be safe.
shims between the axle and spring adjust caster not camber
@ you are right my Bad thank you
now that it was bent and you changed it, my earlier comment is no big deal, good content
Kudos to you Bandit!
Thanks buddy

Great video, you forgot the loctite for more safety captain. Good luck amigo.
Without those shims that the other shop didn't use, you can almost guarantee that it was the cause of the leaf springs moving around.
I just saw two truckers that I'm subscribed to do this very job within a few days of each other! You and FSC Trucking.

I’m a big hoarder buddy. I don’t throw anything away except for Richard’s mom 😂😂
I’m no mechanic, but this is still very interesting to watch. You paid yourself a few hundred per hour by doing this on your own. Not bad!
Definitely saved quite a bit by doing it myself. Thanks buddy.
Good job well done. Reminds me of my husband when he would work on his pickup truck. Have a great day and get some rest.
Thank you so much

Otr bandit. Your videos are entertaining as well as very informative.
Much appreciated 🙏🏼
@OTRBandit your welcome
Hey Bandit don't forget to retighten U bolts later on, good job buddy
Thank you very much, buddy. I got them re-retired a couple times.
Great job, great video. Only criticism is ya didnt throw the guy who torqued the bolts for you a $10 spot. 😂
I definitely should have
Well, well, World Wide support for a leaf spring change tutorial, by a World wide traveler. Very commendable.
Thank you very much, buddy

Brother amazing video. You did a great job explaining everything. Owner op #1. F doing stuff in the rain tho lol.
Thanks so much, my friend
amazing work.good job driver
Just a thought: you could test the new torque gizmo on the set of u-bolts the shop set to compare? See if it matches
I did end up, trying it out and it works pretty good.
Good job Bandit, not bad for an owner operator. Hope you don’t mind if I remind you to retighten after a few miles, particularly the U bolts. Ps always good to put some grease on pins etc before install.
MAN ! Super Bandit 😊
Great job you did
Driver I wish you the absolute bestest
Hopefully that works my friend, i thought thats what it maybe from the beginning, i had an old chevy 1985 pick up that did some of the same stuff, stay safe out there my brother!!!
I appreciate that buddy
I don’t have a Mr. Milwaukee…. But I have a Mr. Dewalt
This pin that holds those leaf springs in place are maybe the cause of your ice driving effect it would make sense.
Big Blue looks so sad with his bumper off 😊 I really hope this does the trick Bandit . Good luck my friend and stay safe out there
Thank you very much, buddy. It sure does look different without the bumper.

Yes, sir. I wasn’t done tightening it yet. I needed to let my hood down to get better access to that side.
😮
18:50 had me rolling 🤣🤣😂
