Thanks for doing this review.. I had asked you a few years back...beautiful plane, the factory owner is a cool guy, stands by his product and knows probably every single issue you can conceivably have... Thanks again Mark.. Doing the British proud...
Awesome review of an awesome little aeroplane - I like quick LSAs, theyre so useful to do day trips in, further afield, quickly. Perfect in the UK, for fun flying 👍💜😊
Mark, the new mosaic rules due to become law by next summer will do away with all the current limitations of light sport. 1. 3000 MGTW 2. 250 knots 3. Retractable gear 4. Constant speed prop 5. No engine limitations ( turbines allowed) 6. Night flying will be allowed 7. Four place aircraft will be allowed 8. Light sport helicopters will be allowed
@skywagonuniversity5023 I don't ever see them allowing light sport pilots the opportunity to get an IFR rating. Before a light sport pilot can fly any of the newer complex aircraft, they will have to get signed off by a CFI, just like a private pilot does. Night flying requires a medical, but that may change in the final rule, as a sport does not need a medical to fly.
I should buy it.im stephen queen but i could be lighting mcqueen.your smooth on the controls so for now on i will call you The iceman .. Great vidieo again thx Iceman
Great video by the way! Can anyone tell me that has owned one of these planes before what is the maintenance like on these Arion Lightnings? is its really hard owning an experimental rather than a normal type certified plane?
HEY MARK THAT LIGHTING IS A GREAT LIGHT SPORT. YOU DON,T EVEN NEED A MEDICAL CERTIFICATE, JUST YOUR PILOT LICIENCE I HERE. JUST WHATE SOME OF NEED IF WE STILL WANT TO FLY BUT CAN,T GET A MEDICAL CERTIFICATE. MARK SAN FRANCISCO
They both have their attributes. This is a LSA and the RV is an Experimental not limited by weight and speed. If I had to choose, I'd have the RV6 taildragger with a 200 HP Lycoming in it and a constant speed prop. 170 Kts. In it's category though, this Arion is very nice. At least it does not look like lawn furniture under a kite.
@@skywagonuniversity5023 never seen one of these. I got my RV6A because of your video. I have a modified one that fits me being 6’4”. Wondering if I’d fit in an Arion like I do in my 6. This plane looks great and I like the larger wing span. Looks like a diamond/lancair but has a lower stall which I why I’m interested. What will this do realistically IAS
@@RaceMentally It's supposed to only do 120 Kts but will do slightly more at 2800 RPM which is pushing it. The airframe with a Lycoming in it will do a LOT more though but it is not light-sport, it is experimental.
Mark, I was hoping you'd do a review on the Arion Lightning. I saw it for sale on your website. It's a great looking plane! Similar to a Aero Designs Pulsar XP 912 I used to own. I did hear the 3300 has a recommended top-end at 1000 hrs. (I think the factory is in Shelbyville, TN, not KY.)
Life is simple. I see a SkywagonUniversity video. I click! Thanks Mark!

@@skywagonuniversity5023 the wisdom I have for you today is that everyone (myself included) should buy an airplane from Mark at Skywagons University!
Very wise indeed.
My go to channel for aviation ASMR. Thanks Mark!
Wow, thanks!
Honestly Mark should also be hosting a show on the History Channel or a travel documentary. Very good in front of the camera.
Thanks. There might be a TV reality show about planes coming along in which I'm a "guest in the West."
Phenomenal aircraft 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼✈️🛫🛬🛩️💪🏼
Yes it is.
Thanks for doing this review..

It's total random luck what planes we get in and when, but this was a good one.
Thanks for sharing, I’m also loving the Lightning. It’s an amazing plane with an amazing speed envelope.
Glad you like it!
Thanks Mark, very sharp plane, must be a kick getting to fly all the planes you fly
They are fun and interesting.

Totally agree!
Very informative. Thank you, Mark.
Glad it was helpful!
Nice to see your tail feathers didn't get singed!
Thanks.
Doesn't look like a kit plane. Love the appearance. Thanks marc
Nice little speedster.
Thx
Love these videos, and adore that plane!
Glad you like them!
Very cool, will we ever see a Diamond?
One day when one comes here yes.
G,day Mark from Sydney Australia. Looks like the type to fit into the FAA proposed 'Mosaic rules?'
🌏🇦🇺
Mark, l litre = 61 cubes so the 3.3 Jubaru is 201 cubes. neat little bird.
excellent thanks

Wow !
10:20 and you didn't talk about the cabin service button. (edit- nm, @Zaephyr mentioned this)
Nice to see an LSA!
I know, I panicked and left it out. Sorry.
I do like the expiramental as well !!! Thanks !!!
Good stuff as always, thanks Mark! Beautiful airplane!
Thanks.
Great video by the way! Can anyone tell me that has owned one of these planes before what is the maintenance like on these Arion Lightnings? is its really hard owning an experimental rather than a normal type certified plane?
Experimentals are far easier, cheaper to own.
Could a plane like that be kept outdoors? Outside a hanger?
No, Not really. Short periods are OK but they really need to be inside.
Reminds me of a DA-20.
That lil thing does look a lot like a mini Lancair! Also Bristel's.
I wonder if they could put a STOL kit on that airplane?
I think it lands slowly enough. If you put a STOL Kit on it, you'd also need a rope-ladder to get down from it because it would be stuck up there.
So it’s basically a lance without retractable Andy gear
Did you mean Lancair with fixed gear. It is like that but much smaller.

So the trim and flaps are on pushbuttons on the stick?
Yes. More intuitive than you'd think.
@Mark How tall are you? Was room between your head and canopy comfortable?
5'11" and there was plenty of room.
You better keep your hand on that thing and tied down, looks like it could take off any second
40 knots! Landed at 38!
Your clothes matches the livery again!
I have an extensive wardrobe and an attentive tailor. ;-)

What's the payload with full fuel? What is max usable fuel?
Useful load is 560 lbs and it holds 22 gallons of fuel. I couldn't find anything that talked about the useable fuel limitations.

Yes, true. TN not KY. Thanks,
How could you not mention the orange Fight Attendant Call button on the panel?!?
On a serious note, that canopy gives a wonderful wraparound view.
It was hidden behind the GPS and I panicked under the pressure of the camera. Sorry.
Is it aerobatic capable? +6/-3?
No
It would be a great purchase but for the j3300 being notorious for overheating
Hmmm… nice in many ways, but wish they made one with doors instead of a canopy.
Hmmm the name must be a play on “white lightning”🤷🏻♂️
And from Tennessee?
