  • Introduction: The Makra is a scenic peak in the Mansehra District in the Hazara region of the Himalayas in northern Pakistan. It is 3,885 meters (12,746 ft) high and almost 200 kilometers (120 mi) from Islamabad on the Naran Road.[3] From Kiwai, a single 7-kilometer-long road runs uphill to Shogran, a tourist resort with numerous hotels; the track continues to climb up to Siri Lake and ends at Paye. From here it is a trek of nine hours to the top of the Makra. Hiking on the Makra in winter is difficult due to snow and the gradient of the mountainsides.
    Journey: Climbing any mountain in winter can be a tricky job even if it is a simple mountain like Marka. in the winters of 2021 we made a plan to climb Makra peak. which was an epic journey. I started my journey from Lahore with my three adventure buddies. we reach Balakot and have a perfect desi breakfast. then started our journey towards Kawai. Rent a jeep from Kawai and start our journey towards Shogran. which is almost 7 km from Kawai.
    we started to see the ice patches almost halfway.
    In This video, we sharted our journey from Shogran and reach Siri.
    This video is the first part of a multipart series adventure documentary.
    Hope you like the video.

    I don't quite agree with you rationale that police is banning people spending night at the top because of some silly reason.
    I think they were doing it because they don't want inexperienced people to go up there and try to attempt something they're not capable of and dying, In that case all the local authorities are going to be after police and public will demand that police should be stricter.
    Obviously you guys are not in experience and you are more than capable to safely finish your adventure. But allowing just about everyone to go up there that is risky.
    I think what should be the right way to do things as issuing permits for people to go and spend the night at the top and doing the permit process you declare that you are capable of safely going to the top and spending the night and you are going to be fully responsible for what happens to you. This way you release police from any liability and there is also documented list of people who go up there.
    What do you think about this?

      100% agree with you..there should be some easy procedure. but the problem is that there is no such thing and when people like us travel on weekends they ask us to go to Mansehra and get the NOC to do night stay on top...which is not quite possible because of the limited days we have on our adventure. And it not silly because the police are not allowing us to do night stay on top it is silly because it's coming from the top tire at the same time when they are clamming to open the tourism and mountains. The point is still the same they even don't know what they should do to align their goals and policies. Last year they have done some heli-skiing on Makra with foreigners...

      @@iamAdnanSaleem I also noticed that while going uphill on the way to the top you guys were using your mountaineering boots on a icy trail, obviously you need some traction but I think it is going to destroy your mountaineering boots if you keep on using them this way. There are plenty of traction devices (Check out on RUclips khatula microspikes and if you have a relative in US or Canada they can probably buy it and send it to you) That is the best $60 investment that you will make which will actually help you not put unnecessary damage on your mountaineering boots and crampons. So that you can use your mountaineering boots and crampons only when you really need them these micro spikes work wonderful and you will find them to be more comfortable to use on the approach trails to the mountain.

    • @iamAdnanSaleem
      @iamAdnanSaleem  3 года назад

      Yes there were some slippery patches along the way till siri which we have avoided to some extent..but the thing is that we are the budgeted adventurers and some of the guys who were wearing light mountaineering shoes does not even have the crampons yet even i don't have proper mountaineering shoes yet.i have climbed mount Falak sar in landa shoes.most of our expedition took place in summers and we use crampons there on glacier. So micro traction devices are luxury for us... :) Though it is good point that it must be making some damage to shoes.
