They’ve lost their place! You can go into a Publix and the customer service is far beyond what Piggly Wiggly offers! But for me, Piggly wiggly represents old-fashioned values and small town attitudes
Not a fan. There were two of them where I used to live. Extremely expensive and their customer service sucked. I only shopped there out of dire need, never because I wanted to.
The main grocery store of Andalusia, Alabama is Piggly Wiggly. There is only Pic n Save, the Pig, and Walmart. I hate that Walmart is such a competitor for these small, local stores. Walmart is The Evil Empire.
And now, in many areas it has come full circle. Regional stores and national stores have online shopping, where an employee picks and packs your grocery order, for pick up or delivery! (greatly expanded due to the pandemic)
But, the consumer still has the option to shop in the store, those are just other options for customers who prefer that options but, it just up the amount of consumers who do it because, those were done other options way before the pandemic got here.
Should look into the origins and history of Publix. George Jenkins (founder) started out working for Piggly Wiggly, had wonder ideas of how to keep improving the chain and was laughed out of the room. Left to start his own business, and the rest was history.
My Maternal Grandfather worked at *Piggly Wiggly* for several years. He became a standard bearer in the community, so much so that he was poached by a newer grocery store chain that came to our rural town, *Sunflower.* He went back to *Piggly Wiggly,* who were pleased to take him back, after about two years.
That's where we shopped in Bermuda and the rush right after they'd received a shipment was unreal. Every Volkswagen beetle (only car you could have), scooter and moped would be there
I hate to stay behind Piggly wiggy and came out in Louisiana when I was about maybe 19 20 years old and they closed it down and opened up on Winn-Dixie but they still have Piggly wiggly on the other side of the river on the westbank where close to where my brother lives that was still open I'm talking like years ago now and it's still awful I don't understand
My coworker told me about this store, the way she mentioned it sounds like it was something that you would go to if you were poor. But I don’t really get that feeling, seems like a normal grocery store.
It's regional/area-specific. We have a Pig nearby in one of the highest land-value areas in the South East with lots of upscale wines, gourmet foods and meats, whereas my aunt's local Pig is much more lower end and not as nice, and it's located in a small rural town.
Understood. I don’t know why it got this image but it’s not true especially in the last few years, they’ve upgraded many of their stores in Birmingham and it’s my favorite grocery store. Definite not a “ poor people” grocery store either.
In Texas We had a Piggly Wiggly when I was growing up and then it changed over to a Winn Dixie. I also seem to remember a Buddies which I think WD bought them out.
Then others came along and started sack-them-yourself. Now you can check them out AND sack them yourself (even though groceries are now more expensive than ever). Next you'll be able to pull stuff out of the backroom. Then customers will be unloading trucks and stocking shelves so they can then buy the stuff.
I loved piggly wiggly in san antonio its now called arlens but we still forget and call it piggly wiggly and its ran with those old fasioned values just as piggle wiggle its still great
Back in the 60's I lived in San Antonio where they had Piggly Wiggly and also H.E.B. (= Herbert E. Butt). The rumor was that they would merge and name the new store Wiggly Butt. Today they might use Miley Cyrus as a spokesperson.
When I was living in Memphis, some co-workers were talking about the Piggy Wiggly name, and one said that the name was thought up when the founder(s) saw a very heavy woman walking across the parking lot, and her butt was wiggling. So they decided to call the store Piggly Wiggly. Again, I don't know how true that is, but if he was reluctant to answer the question about the name...
There’s something dark about a pig mascot with a butcher’s hat. There’s a parallel there to the “customer friendly worker” image when the original intent was to cut as many workers from the payroll as possible to make as much money as possible.
I LIVE IN A SUBURB OF CHICAGO AND SHOP AT A STORE CHAIN CALLED BUTERAS---MUST HAVE SOME CONNECTION TO PIGGLY WIGGLEY AS THE SELL ITEMS WITH THE PW LABEL
Piggly Wiggly...oh yeah brings up some good memories from the early 80s here in southeast VA. Zayres, People's Drug, Mont-goooomeeery Ward, Hechinger, Food Town (before they became Food Lion), Be-Lo, and now Farm Fresh. Former stores that just happen to vanish throughout the years. Good times.
When I say it's awful I mean awful that I don't have one on the east Bank where I live I have to go way on the westbank till when my brother living that's like every 2 months I can't get over there all the time but yeah I like Piggy wiggy I like how they have used to have the truck sales I don't know if they still had it because that's the start of barely go to probably every other year and probably every few months after the year anyway on these have big truck sales they will have big old truck sales and it will be a very special thing for everyone because the truck sales you you can get stuff for like a $1.99 it was wonderful especially when I had my first kid it was so green come back to the East Bank Piggly wiggly please
Sure?/, there’s no slaughter section? Fresh slaughtered meats not there? Sure?! I seen maggots swarming in there meat cases. The yellow’y atmosphere inside was eerie, Texas cold-case like. They slaughter fresh and meaty. Why’s maggot’s a’ crawlin? Haw-uh? Road-tripping on survival to me. I hightailed it out of there real quick. Mis’t all them special character attitudes outside my car door windows, forget the bother. I just zoomed my white color’t automobile out of that town and whitened my knuckles to stay honest. Don’t order the maggots. Just buy the good stuff I guess.
The piggly wiggly in Lincoln,AL is the worst. Some lady was stealing and the manager went outside to find out which car she got in but picked the car with the first black person she saw instead. My 16 y/o daughter sat in the car while I ran in to get some tea. When I got to the registers all the cashiers were laughing at the black woman that was in there stealing just sitting in the car like police won’t arrest her. I check out and I’m looking for the car/person they were talking about and saw a car with an older white lady and my car with my child. We started to leave and we’re swarmed by police for stealing. I showed my receipts from there and the store next to it and what we bought. The officers asked them what the lady was wearing and they didn’t have a clue what my daughter had on cuz she never got out of the car and my clothes didn’t match either. So the police let us go. But yea I was so pissed cuz she literally just picked the 1st black person she saw to pin it on. 😡
What do you think about Piggly Wiggly?
Cool 😀
🤷♂️

we had a Piggly Wiggly in walking distance from my house growing up. I use to go there with my grandmother to shop. Ah childhood memories.
I loved my Pig. Sadly my neighborhood Pig closed 2 years ago. We in the neiborhood miss it so bad.
Love Piggly Wiggly… we have them throughout the panhandle of FL.
We call it panhandle in tx.. I guess FL calls there's that too

That's where we shopped in Bermuda and the rush right after they'd received a shipment was unreal. Every Volkswagen beetle (only car you could have), scooter and moped would be there
From Beaufort S.C. I 'm shopping at The Piggly Wiggly great service, fresh food, low prices.
I have never and will never again hear this store's name mentioned so many times in a short period
I thought I was going crazy 🤣
Love Piggly Wiggly.
Bring back Piggly Wiggly in San Antonio Tx. Again. I like the T- 👕 from Piggly Wiggly.
I remember shopping at Piggly Wiggly with my folks when visiting family in Iuka, Mississippi.
We need to replace all Wal-Mart's with Piggly Wiggleys, put our farmers back in THIER fields and raising US cattle!!
I agree with you)
Yes! Wal Mart & Whole Foods sucks!!!
I sooo remember Piggly wiggly..I kinda miss it
I hate to stay behind Piggly wiggy and came out in Louisiana when I was about maybe 19 20 years old and they closed it down and opened up on Winn-Dixie but they still have Piggly wiggly on the other side of the river on the westbank where close to where my brother lives that was still open I'm talking like years ago now and it's still awful I don't understand
My coworker told me about this store, the way she mentioned it sounds like it was something that you would go to if you were poor. But I don’t really get that feeling, seems like a normal grocery store.
yeah that is not true what she said, I saw Daniel A Moore the famous artist in there not too many months ago
Yah I agree, even in one of the poorest towns in my state the piggly wiggly there was super well kept and nice.
It's regional/area-specific. We have a Pig nearby in one of the highest land-value areas in the South East with lots of upscale wines, gourmet foods and meats, whereas my aunt's local Pig is much more lower end and not as nice, and it's located in a small rural town.

Wait this place is real? I thought this place only existed in that 70s show
I’ve been to this place in South Carolina plenty of times back around 2008.
It's very real
There's a PW in the town I'm in. It's kinda cool that they started the standards for grocery stores

I'm dead 😭😭😭😂😂😂💀
When I found out what H.E.B. stood for, I thought it was a joke.
When I was living in Memphis, some co-workers were talking about the Piggy Wiggly name, and one said that the name was thought up when the founder(s) saw a very heavy woman walking across the parking lot, and her butt was wiggling. So they decided to call the store Piggly Wiggly.

Piggly Wiggly Is A Great Name For A Grocery Store.
Very interesting story!
They used to have PW in Texas but they were all closed by about 1980.
I hope the RUclips channel 'Company Man' does a video about this chain.
Oh my god yes. He is soooo good at breaking things down

You need to know how to pronounce your words you said blan instead of saying brand. Yep, you didn’t say bland you said, blan.
