I noticed that the light meter changes when I have the depth of field preview turned on. Should I fix my settings according to the light meter reading when the depth of field preview is on or when it is off? Please help~~~
Hi, I've just bought an AE-1 second hand. Should I be able to push the "advance the film" lever all the way if there's no film in the camera yet? Not sure if this is a stupid question haha.
Hi Jessica, If what you want is to test your camera if you should, remember that for this model of camera to work it is necessary that it has the battery install.
Hi Sara Benavides, This model does not have buttons, but it does have a small lever with which we can unlock the camera below the shutter button. Turn the shutter button lock lever to "A". Turn the shutter button lock lever to "L" to prevent accidental shutter release or battery drain whenever you are not using the camera.
So if I’m looking to shoot at 1.8, do I aline the light meter needle with the middle marker at f/5.6, or do I look to get it to point where f/1.8 would be near the bottom of the meter. I assume the answer is to set it to the middle marker like a dslr but I wanted to ask before a burn through a roll of film
Hi Patrick J Chiverton Media, If you want to use a f1.8, you must select in the lens 1.8 and turn the shutter speed dial until the light meter needle point 1.8.
Hi Via, This camera has a switch under the shutter button and is the shutter button lock lever. Turn the shutter button lock lever to "L" to prevent accidental shutter release or battery drain whenever you are not using the camera.
i don’t know if you still respond to comments on this video- but why do you turn the lever so many times after loading the film i feel like it is a waste of film
I’m not experienced with film photography but i believe it’s to get past the shots exposed to light. For example the strip of film you can see when loading is completely(?) unusable since film is sensitive to light
by looking through the viewfinder. it may be hard to tell at first but you should be able to tell whats in focus through the viewfinder. you can lightly twist the lens to adjust the focus to your liking
Hi ChrisMcKing, I suppose that it is possible since this type of photography is made by calculating the exposure and using bulb for long exposures and a shutter release cable. Perhaps there could be some vibration in the photo, since being the fully mechanical camera does not have the mirror lock function that prevents vibrations in long exposure, and that some more current cameras have this function.
Hi Silver_1236, This is a 35mm Film camera, therefore not store images in memory. The latent image in the film has to go through a developing and printing process to be visible.
@@pedroperez7622 With this video you can give yourself a very good idea of how to use this camera, it is only necessary to previously have basic knowledge of photography.
@@pedroperez7622 After taking the photos in your camera you need to go to a store where they reveal the roll and scan it to see the photos on a computer.

It will be great to read how your photos went when you start using your cameras.

Do you rewind the lever after every photo even when you are not taking another one so soon? Or do you only turn before taking a photo?
what is the length, width, and height of this camera? I need this for a project.
This was so helpful thank you 🔥

I bought one for $250
Hi! Just bought mine yesterday and with no battery. Will the film advance lever function only if there's battery inserted on the camera?
Old video but if I remember correctly you do need a battery

When you don't see the red dot flashing and the letter M..does it mean that its ready to use?
Hi, if i set my aperture to “A” , can i take photo with any shutter speed?
Hi Nosyotato,
only if the light conditions are right.
Very precise and helpful !
Hiiii, when i changed the lens of my camera it got blurry all of a sudden. Before it was normal. What did I do wrong and how can I re ajust it?
So does this camera nothave an On/off button? Because im confused :/ and worried it might eat up the battery

Hi NubAnSkrub,
The camera that you like the most, or maybe both.

Just found one of these cleaning out my mother in laws basement. Thanks for this video, can't wait to start shooting.
Hi how can i see if my battery is still ok ? - why i can not see how many photos i took (it's stucked in S)
Thank you so much!!! This was a huge help :)
Hi Fuchsinger,
Thanks for your comments that's encourage me to keep working!
Is it normal for me to not be able to see the range of sharp focus, like in your video I see it open up and close and I can’t see that on mine
Hi Lilia,
If you can't see the clear image, it's not normal.
if youre using porta 400 what do put your speed dial as
Hi Aniya,
Like the ISO film is 400 set it to 400, 2:48
My camera needle won’t move just says it’s fully charged
Very helpful. Thank you
Does the camera have double exposure ?
i don’t know if you still respond to comments on this video- but why do you turn the lever so many times after loading the film i feel like it is a waste of film

wait, the long exposures are the numbres bellow 60?
Hi Nicole,
The numbers bellow 1/60 are low speeds, we can consider long speeds to 1 second or more.
Really very useful.

It's great to know that you found useful this video, Thanks for your comments!
Is it normal that myight doesnt show like this? Me its red numbers showing up. Also seem incknsistent sometimes...
So what if u want to focus the background, how would u know that's in focus.

Very nice.
When I turn my aperture ring the aperture does not move it is just stuck at 1.8
Dunno why I can't use the shutter button to flip the film...
Hi Angela,
Make sure the battery is in good condition, and the battery compartment terminals are clean.
Why my friend told me canon ae1 can't used auto for aperture?
Hi Johan,
i guess because the aperture value just can set manually in the lens.
What battery should I use in a Canon AE-1?
Hi Jordan,
This camera uses a 4LR44 battery.
@@photographyandmore Thanks! Is this a rechargeable battery and if so what charger do you recommend?

how do you know you ran out of film

When the film drag lever no longer allows you to advance further.

Depth of Field, not Deep. Good video
Does someone know why my buttom half of the Focus circle ist almost always black?

well i broke my battery door while watching this, lucky me!
Why can I not manually change my aperture?
Defective lens. Or perhaps you didn’t install a battery?
