As a fan of both XCOM and Gears of War, this game looks like a dream to me! Shame that it is not release on console at the same time as on PC. Let us hope it does not take long to arrive to my fatty Xbox One.
As someone who used to be a really hardcore Gears fan this looks incredible. Gears 4 and 5 are fun but having the OG locust and COG feel back is a somewhat ironic breath of fresh air

Killer Orca honestly I like the locust war better. I found them more mysterious and actually pretty horrifing. I wasn’t sick of the Gears world as it was. I’m tired of that gameplay style. Yes it’s still the best 3rd person shooter on the market IMO but after 6 games I’m so ready to see this world differently.

This was the most comprehensive overview of this game I've seen! you're amazing! (Subbed) I've been really anticipating it since I saw it almost two months ago! I have it preloaded and ready to go on my game pass PC Account! I never got to play Xcom 2 so I will be taking advantage of it being free till the end of April on steam and will definitely be able to truly feel which one I like the most when I get my hands on this game! I have high hopes for this and hope it does well enough to have a sequel!

Do you use the same "heroes" throughout the entire game? Or are there randomly generated COG troops (that you recruit) with their own stats, like on Xcom.
Absolutely a great game. I love it. What’s interesting and could be due to the fact that not many have actually played it, but this game is essentially a video game version of the gears of war board game. I luckily found a mint complete game board with expansion pack for $85. Easily worth $400 but if you can find a good copy, I highly recommend it. It’s hard and has like a 27 page instruction booklet.

Great video Rock I've heard that you can change the difficulty settings during the campaign but that it won't appear on the XBOX edition that really sucks Cross out one achievement I guess
I am really interested in Gears 6 bringing out character customization and also maintaining its "Hero" skins. I always enjoyed playing as the COG looking soldiers and UIR in gears 4, always wanted to customize them in my own personal way! Hopefully theyll bring weapon and pickup weapon customisation that goes beyond skins, but have no impact on gameplay, like different scopes on sniper and lancer, Torque Bow being more like a crossbow, similar to the Tripwire Crossbow from RAAMs Shadow DLC and that sort of thing.
Anything like armor in the game? XCOM and P Point both had this, made for an extra layer of tactics shredding and capitalizing on armored enemies and units respectively.
Not that I saw, but it was quite early missions, I think. There's a big focus on healing with your own squad - you Chuck healing grenades and have healing skills. Didn't see any obvious armour stuff in interface, etc.
How exactly does customization work though? Say you want your Gears to wear helmets, is that purely a cosmetic thing you can give to them whenever, or is all customization 100% handled entirely via item pickups through the crates, mission rewards, etc?
You customize them between missions with gear you earn by completing missions or picking up gear crates. All the armour alters character in some way, as well as having cosmetic differences.
It will only appeal to the majority of the playerbase when it becomes available on console. This should have been a duo release, not pc specific until a later date as an apology for the shitty attempt we got as the next number in the franchise.

this game looks like you can finish it in like 5 hours then you gotta replay it unless im wrong. cuz they invest so much in graphic and weapons/characters/ etc etc but I feel like this game is gonna be so short that it aint gonna be worth full price. anyway I could be wrong lets hope that isn't the case.
I’m a gears fan and in MY opinion it doesn’t look right it’s like chest and looks awkward the way that stand frozen waiting for there turn don’t get me wrong the story looks promising but the game play is not what I grew up With but respect people liking the look of the game
I have a real problem with this game I want it it be like xcom because xcom has so much replayability I am afraid that I will get tired of the main missions and the cutscenes. I feel that this game shines greatest when it is really loosely wrapped by narrative. The fact that this game does not have a base of operations seems to destroy its ability of being a game that give the player the true endless gaming option. This game is a dream come true yet it scares me that i will play it once and not have the want to play it again. I already purchased the game because like who wouldn't. I just saying that I have so much hype for the game I want it to sit in my game library as a game I can go back to like I do with so much of this series.

I've been playing the whole Gears series (started with Judgment and am now on Gears 5) on Game Pass and am ridiculously impressed with how well the series has progressed over the years. I'm honestly disappointed the most recent two games haven't gotten more attention from critics, as I prefer them to the earlier titles easily. I hope Tactics makes it to Xbox at some point, as it looks like it's right up my alley.
You can also get thrashball Cole for playing it on Game Pass. And I'm assuming that Xbox users will get the same preorder bonus when the game comes to console later this year

they state multiple times there are randomly generated troops. The heroes are just needed for the core story missions

totally curious a bit turned off about fixed heroes for missions really takes out the sandbox style of gaming for strategy games.

No, you hire recruits from a pool of potential hires. Customisation is all done with equipment. There's no character creator.

They advertise ~40hrs but it's likely to be based on replayability, will see when its released I guess.

No, just PvE from what I saw. And permadeath only applies to the recruit characters - the main story figures fail the mission if they die.

It doesn't have the strategic layer of XCOM, which may impact replayability, but hoping for a decent campaign.
