Ngl, that's a GOOD ASS QUESTION. It will be VERY hard to be the face now with all the damn talent today. Of course other eras had the same talent, but players nowadays have the internet to influence. And now with so many different opinions and no one having an agreement on anything, there will NEVER be another universally accepted wearer of the crown. No Steph was too late and the whole KD thing and taking the backseat hurt him a lot. Also Magic and Bird were relative while Lebron has and was blatantly just better.
Talent, charisma, story. These are needed to become the face of anything, and a lot of these new players don't have the charisma and the story to really stand out and become fan favorites. Grew up in Nigeria/Cameroon/Congo/Kenya in the late 90's/early 2000's and the hype over Kobe and Iverson was ridiculous. This is in Africa with extremely limited internet access at the time. I work in branding/marketing and I've said for years now that a lot of these kids have talent, but lack the charisma and story behind them to truly become icons.

The NBA would be more popular if the media propped up more players and more teams around the league. The NFL is the most popular sport in America with a lot more household names and I believe that is because they are more broadly covered. I have a barber shop and ESPN is on all day. Every other sport covers a variety of players and teams. When it comes to the NBA LeBron and whatever team he's on and Curry and the Warriors are covered wayyyyy more than any other team. It doesn't matter if those teams are trash at the moment. New Orleans and Milwaukee can be number 1 in their conference while the Lakers and Warriors are struggling and outside of the playoffs and it's still the same song and dance. The internet era has changed the way we talk about athletes. Instead of appreciating accomplishments we get straight to ranking and comparisons. Every sport is growing their stars, it’s just going to take time for them to get media approval
Everything is very controlled and fake looking today. It's hard to take professional sports players as seriously.

I would argue Curry is that face right now, as he's still only 2 years removed from his 4th title and the dynasty trio is still in tact. They could get a 5th later on like how the Spurs did. He's an exciting player to watch, clearly has the cultural impact (changed the sport completely), and is still a top 5 offensive juggernaut. He's 35 years old so he could fall off but I'm not seeing it bro.
Not really when he still loses to Lebron in literally like every form of popularity. He also isn't even the best player in the league or top 3. Maybe face of the league to warriors fans

There's no clear cut face of the NBA and there hasn't been one since MJ. For 20 years there's been some great talents that have come along, but they all had their foils. Kobe and shaq had the 2004 Detroit Pistons. Lebron had the Golden state Warriors. Jordan literally had no one once he got into his prime. Unless a player goes on a historic run and wins AT LEAST 5 rings in 10 years. He'd have to have that type of consistent greatness to even be considered. But the league is in GREAT ASS HANDS
I like the nba as it is (with multiple faces) and clearly the world does too as it’s the most popular the sport has ever been

Nah stephanie fan your idol doesnt have the same popularity like bron 😂lmoo
Talent, charisma, story. These are needed to become the face of anything, and a lot of these new players don't have the charisma and the story to really stand out and become fan favorites. Grew up in Nigeria/Cameroon/Congo/Kenya in the late 90's/early 2000's and the hype over Kobe and Iverson was ridiculous. This is in Africa with extremely limited internet access at the time. I work in branding/marketing and I've said for years now that a lot of these kids have talent, but lack the charisma and story behind them to truly become icons.
Ppl were sayin I was crazy for suggesting the NBA would be better off spreading the love and media attention across the league even to smaller market players. There’s so much intriguing things across the league not just one single person every 10 years
90's- IT, Jordan, Hakeem

10's- Lebron, Curry, KD
20's- Giannis, Jokic

The face of the league is still lebron. You don’t have to be the best in the league to be the face you just have to be on of the best and the most influential. First person you think of when you think of the nba.
I agree to some extent. The only reason lebron is somewhat “still” the face of the nba, is because he is still performing adequately. Even when he got swept, he still drop 40 points in game 4. And he still broke the league’s points record.
Its not like people talked about him for the sake of it. He was rightfully talked about.
To some extent you are right that he is the face of the nba. Not even jokic breaking records left and right was able to capture the media’s attention. In part because he is white. I believe that if jokic was non-white American, he would’ve already be the face of the nba

Personally idk where I have Steph on my Mount Rushmore but the _real_ reason he isn’t in this discussion is because he doesn’t have that global/pop culture impact. Hoop purists will appreciate. But casuals not so much.
He wasn't even the best player on his team in 2017 and 2017. He blew a 3-1 lead in 2016 and lost the first and mvp in 2015 after a poor finals performance.

Do you want to become an NBA player, Trey? You ARE D1.
The league needs to highlight more of the best players and teams despite their market. But I'm a Pacers fan so I might be a bit biased😅
That’s is not true. NFL is the most popular but nobody outside of regular NFL fans knows the names or recognize the face of the players. The helmets might be the reason for that. Just check social media soccer players and NBA players are the most followed on social media
