  • The Michael Maguire era begins for New South Wales on Wednesday night and there are a few potential deciding factors in this new-look Blues squad.
On paper, Maguire has picked a hard working, defensive forward pack to complement a highly productive back five in yardage. The selections suggests that NSW will attempt to emulate the Penrith Panthers in yardage and rely on their outside backs to carry them out of trouble while the forwards frontload their efforts in defence.
The selection of Reece Robson over Api Koroisau will also have a significant influence on how the Blues use the ball in attack. Robson will take his chances to run while offering crisp, clean service to get NSW wide of the ruck and at Queensland's edge defenders. This approach lends itself to the quality ball carriers in the Blues backline and backrow.
The aerial targets on both NSW edges are also likely to be a feature of the Blues good-ball attack. Given how many tries we've seen come off kicks in recent series, the involvements of Zac Lomax, Stephen Crichton, Joseph Sua'ali'i and Haumole Olakau'atu under the high ball could be crucial.
We're going to learn a lot about how 'Madge' wants to tackle Origin football in this one.

Great knowledge on the analysis. I think the late inclusion of Teddy will make both edges firing as all back 5 are the best ball runners in their respective club. Also, Aerial contest will be up game level for the back line. Thumbs up & look forward for QLDer break down.. Cheers 🥂
