- By request, I have uploaded this film as I am told it is a superior version to those already on RUclips. I used some scenes from this video in my "Shasta Daylight" production.
The pair of PA's are just jaw dropping.
It is amazing how much simpler a time it was. A much more innocent, smarter time, with common sense. It really did take a village.
Can you imagine what would happen today if a stranger had two Middle School girls sitting on his lap ?
He'd go to jail.
The dramatic organ chords for the music made me think Buster Keaton was gonna pop up out of nowhere on his little CN speeder, lol.
This is one of the best safety films ever!
Steam engines, wig wags, no graffiti…….this is excellent despite the dramatic organ player lol
I’ll be honest, I do like listening to the organ, but I prefer listening to the sound recordings of these old trains in action. If only today’s trains had the same quality as those from years past.
Now, down in the L.A. region, a lot of the Union Pacific locomotives and cars (which run on the old SP tracks) are all tagged on. This is a sad commentary about our current time, and about a railroad that apparently spends little money on security or maintenance. The BNSF equipment in this same metro region looks a lot better. If I correctly recall Union Pacific's buyout of the SP in the mid-1990's, they created the nation's largest railroad at the time, but they made the mistake of retaining the SP management. It has really showed in how the UP has been run ever since. Shortly after the acquisition went into effect, the railroad scrapped way too many locomotives and had to be bailed out by its competitors and the Federal Railroad Administration because it couldn't keep up with the freight demand. Fast forward to the pandemic, and the UP was getting its container cars broken into by looters outside the L.A. yard. It turned out that the railroad had laid off 90 per cent of its security staff beforehand, and then the UP management disingenuously tried to shift the blame onto local law enforcement agencies. I'll bet that the insurance companies were furious at the UP. What a poorly-run railroad.
To quote Engineer Dave (aka Dave Hood actually :3) from the There Goes a Train episode in the There Goes a... series:
"Don't EVER play on the railroad tracks. It's not only illegal, but it is extremely dangerous."
That 7.5 gauge daylight is adorable
when i see a cab forward, i like
Back in the 1970s I lived in Winter Srings, Fl. A boy my age he fell asleep on the train 🚂 tracks with his friend. The other boy did not get hurt but his friend lost his head😵💫 and to this day I never forget his face. R.I.P
What ever happened to that 16 inch gauge grand scale daylight Steam train? That engine reminds me of the melody, ranch daylight engine that’s located at the whiskey River railroad. The only difference is is the location of the engines bell. The bell on this engine is traditionally mounted in between the domes. The bell on the melody ranch daylight engine is located above the smoke box in front of the smokestack.
I’m pretty sure that is The melody.
That's not the Melody Ranch but it's older sister, the Oakland Acorn. Right now she's dressed down to look more "working class".
It’s at the Whiskey River Railroad in Marshall, Wi
That was awesome!! Gonna watch it twice!
Good to have you back! Any more stuff shot in Ontario coming?
Sorry, all of my personal Canada footage is already posted. I may get more from others in the future.
Young Don Walker wasn't much of a runner but he had a helluva arm!!
Very interesting film to educate about safety in everyday life and railway terrain
I love the thrilling organ music!
Hey, it was the 1950's...
1:48 dude, those look awesome! 😮
I really enjoyed watching this safety film. If you look closely at the scene where the fella is walking over the trestle some of the steam locomotive sequences are being played in reverse (6:25 and the exhaust is going back into the stack). They must have hired an old silent movie organist to play the background music which was quite well done even if it was on a Hammond electric organ. Our railroad museum is alongside the CSX mainline and there is are always ATV's being ridden on the right-of-way.
Tremendous stuff, great quality film and some nice PA shots too, I'm guessing you have improved the exposure on this as it is superb.
If this happens today he won't be driving trains for much longer...
7:47 one of the worst things that children do is to throw rocks
I’ve heard that people have done habits worse than throwing rocks…
These are the way we did things when we were kids!
Whoo hoo! SJSU Alum here!
That poor girl that got hit…

I guess people in the old days had more common sense then this new generation does.
Ahh, how about repairing the fence so this wouldn't happen....always blaming others!😠😠😠😠😠
We could do without the "cheesy" organ music
It was the 50s, what can I say.
