Enjoyed the series. One thing that may help with opening the awning would be to add some gas struts. I think you can get them somewhat reasonably priced and I don't think you would have to rework anything to add them. They wouldn't even necessarily need to be able to open it on their own, just assist the user so its not so heavy.
I was also thinking about gas struts. I've replaced them vehicles before, but never ordered some and then tried to figure out a fresh install.. but I agree, just having the assist would be huge. Maybe I can figure out a way to make it work.
I used Deek Diedricksen's popular design. It's available online for $30, I think. But basically, the cabin itself is 8' x 10'. The roof/walls are 12' long.
