    I’ve just had surgery to reattach my right distal bicep tendon, and reading down through the comments I’m amazed at how many people are going through the recovery process.
    Wishing everyone a speedy recovery 👍🏼

      Same. Surgery on march 8. How is your recovery? Mine’s been painful. Annoyingly so! Pain due to muscular stiffness/immobility in my shoulder, elbow and forearm as well as nerve pain in my forearm due to irritation of the LACN during surgery. Interested to hear about your experience.

    • @olivergreen4719
      @olivergreen4719 8 месяцев назад

      Sorry to hear that. Now I am almost 7 weeks from surgery, my arm is feeling normal.
      I am being very careful with focusing on increasing mobility more than strength at this time.
      Were you stretching as part of your activities before the tear? I was, I wonder of that has to do with the stiffness you describe.
      I was doing a lot of stretching and that may have help, my bicep was very flexible and I had full extension after week 3 from surgery.

      @@olivergreen4719 I wasn’t doing any flexibility work prior to the injury but was very active due to my work. My main focus at the moment is range of motion with supination and pronation as well as extension. It’ll be 4 weeks since surgery, tomorrow and My Physiotherapist is really happy with my progress on the range of motion im achieving with supination and pronation so that’s something. As I said, my biggest issue is the constant ache/pain as well as the nerve pain in my lower forearm. Trying to stay positive, but it’s difficult at times… hope your recovery continues to go well.

    I'm a little over a week out from my surgery. I'm already out of the splint and feel better. My scar is lengthwise with my arm and a bit smaller. Your healing progress is encouraging and gives me hope for a full recovery. Good luck on your fluid issue and hopefully it’s an easy fix.

    Hey Ben, thanks for making this video. I myself am 3 weeks post op. My surgeon has put an endo button instead of an anchor. Your videos are a huge help.
    I really wish you get rid of all these complications and start fresh with everything just perfect.
    My prayers are with you.

      @@welderdude1 yes, 4 weeks of complete rest to let your soft tissues heal internally. Light weights from 4-8 weeks and you may start building strength from week 8. I'm in week 8 currently, I have started lifting weights. Will take time to get back to normal.

    Ben please do another update video. Let us know how you've been since this video. What happens with the fracture? Did you get the gains you wanted? How about the strength? How do you deal with the fear of another injury? I've found the fear to be my biggest obstacle. Thanks again for doing these videos. Helped me alot.

    I am in very similar situation. Had surgery back in September. Lump just like yours popped up. Mri, cat scan then a second surgery 5 days ago. They found a lot of infection and removed / took samples for test. Surgery wasn’t as bad as the first.

    Although i don't have the same injury, I just wanted to let you know that your videos are both interesting and helpful. I recently cut my extensor tendon in my left thumb just behind the knuckle closest to the wrist. I had surgery about three weeks ago and hopefully start therapy this coming Tuesday. Again, almost a completely different injury but just wanted to let you know that i appreciate the time you took to record and upload your progress!

  • @MarcelloFabretti

    Well, in your last video you suggested you have had an issue with supination/pronation because you went back to doing heavy weights sooner than perhaps you should have. In fact, you mention your vanity and never say never attitude meant you couldn't handle one arm looking smaller than the other. So you worked hard to get bulk back into it. I reckon you have a mystery hairline fracture near your tendon anchor precisely because you over worked it! So dude, you just have to accept that you have to take it easy on that arm!
    I'm 4 months out from my own reattachment. I had my op 3 months after the injury so my scar is 13cm long and runs the length of my inner arm. It's never gonna look pretty. I've accepted it. I also accept that I can't carry the same weight with that arm as I can with my right. I'm aware that it could take years to get my full strength back. And trust me, I'll do anything to avoid going under the knife again.

      How are you going now bro. I had my surgery 1.5 weeks ago.
      I have been wondering what is it that take so much time to get strength back, is it the tendon that is rebuild strength or the bicep muscle

  • @c-losaylave1814

    Ben, great videos. I'm 8 months post op and my results are very similar up until your fluid build up. I was having trouble regaining supination but was able regain pronation, as i was rotating he felt a slight bump. As a result of this my doctor went back and did an x-ray. What he discovered was where they drill and reattached the tendon with the end button there was an over growth of bone. I thought it was scar tissue as well. I had was is called heterotopic ossification. Very rare condition. It's just one of those in-perfections of science. He said it was up to me to do surgery. He said it was a risky one since there were nerves and could come out worst and chances are it would regrow. I said screw that, i can live with my results. I'm working out and been back to the gym and my bicep is still a 1/4" smaller than the other. I may not ever get all back. I'm back to some normalcy despite that there are some work outs I can't do, barbell curls, reverse, bench press, military pull up. Thanks for you video man, they really helped and can relate to how you feel. Much support .

  • @CemTurkmen
    @CemTurkmen 4 года назад

    Hey man, it is an unlucky situation! In my opinion, the tendon did not successfully operated and attached to its original place. You should be able pronate and supinate almost fully, even just 6 weeks after the operation (referring to your older videos) . Second thing is the stress fracture, it seems that the stress piles up not on the right angle which structurally bone can handle. Finally, liquid lesions also be the reason of the meal operation. I hope you are much better now.

    Ben, I don't think you are being vain at all here. Our own image, or how we think others perceive us, is important to many of us for our self-esteem and confidence. Particularly if you have done all that work, you don't want to be cheated out of the end result by something like that. I'm in the process of trying to self-treat a partial distal biceps tendon rupture, using eccentric training and nutrition. I'm told that surgery should be considered as a last resort for me, because the arm is still usable, but I have to treat it very carefully. If I had your symptoms I would want to get it resolved too. Looking around your newer videos it seems like you may have done, but I couldn't find an update on this? Good luck.

    Hi Ben, I'm 11 days out of surgery so a long way to go yet! I fully ruptured my tendon playing rugby and have the button intention sliding technique which I'm assuming you have had the same on the NHS. I had a couple of questions, firstly I have very restricted movement in my fingers and thumb did you experience any of the same? Secondly, how much physiotherapy have you had on your arm did the NHS provide you with it or did you seek private?
    And finally, thank God for voice recognition on text messaging!!

      @@mattchew4161 what’s up Matt. I had to go in for another surgery,they removed the tendon again and scraped out most of the bone buildup then reattached it again this time with staples or pins I don’t remember then another long healing process. I must be prone to the buildup because my body is trying to make the tendon part of the bone for strength so it grew a little after the second surgery too. I’m not happy with results because he reattached it slightly over to the right so now it looks more distorted. It is depressing but what could I do? The second buildup wasn’t as bad as first time where you could see the lump like a small rock swimming side to side as I moved my fist side to side so I didn’t have a third surgery. Don’t rip your tendon!
