Shadow_Fighter they call it Thrust Gravity. basically think of it like the ship is a building with the engines at the botom and during the voyage is constantly under acceleration so that the acceleration provides gravity. this and centrifugal gravity are the only non magical ways of having gravity in space
Just wanted to point out since you don't seem to be familiar with this ship. This is a Martian battleship from The Expanse. If you read the books or watch the show then you'll understand all of the crazy design choices made in this ship. (Also you totally should read/watch the series. It's amazing)
These design choices are NOT "crazy". It is the whole of mainstream pseudoscience-fiction that is crazy, with it's myriad of ridiculous spacecrafts built like boats, incapable of functioning in space without magical gravity and inertial dampeners. In space, "up" is where you are going, and "down" is where your main thrusters point towards. And spacecrafts would arrive at their destination "backwards", engines-first, because you always need to decelerate about as much as you accelerated in the first place. The spacecrafts in The Expanse are what actual science-fiction should take as standard. They're only missing radiators and reaction mass reservoirs.
Is it just my impression or is it possible that Aaron has not watched the Series "The Expanse". MAJOR FAIL! Correct immediately! It will not disappoint!
Im taking this as a: Aron has not watched the expanse. Which well, disapointing really. But really, both the workshop title and discription directly mentions where the ship is from, would a couple of miniutes on a wiki page hurt that much?
The Expanse... I knew there was something familiar about the ship and its vertical interior layout. That's because it is supposed to achieve gravity through Constant Acceleration.
The reason for the layout is because in the Expanse series, ships don't particularly have artificial gravity. They use the ships acceleration as it's "gravity"
Austin Newberry Lol, I have Just finished the last episode of season 2. Did you see the Monster inside the Rocinante. I've always wanted to make the ships and the rocinante We need moreeeeeee. Also, we need season 3
Aaron, I absolutely love your work and what you do man. Been fallowing your joint survival with sage since pre-alpha and its just come so far since then. I swear every time a watch a video you do of reviewing a ship I can't help but imagine what it would be like if space engineers had a magazine devoted to mod showcase and what not. "The Donnager, sporting a massive array of firepower at your fingertips, a new innovative interior ship design, and a massive power pack of thrusters including 4 Titan and Sage industrial thrusters" or like if you were running an advertisement for ships like they do for cars now. Dude, I'm just saying, it'd be pretty cool
@LastStandGamers this ship is a recreation of the MCRN Donnager from the The Expanse series on syfy and Netflix. it's the flagship of the marsian navy and it's built like a flat because the Gravity physics in The Expanse use lateral g-forces for Gravity. watch the series tho it's absolutely awsome for a SF fan
Yep. In the Expanse universe, ships like this are considered space skyscrapers because of how they are built to deal with thrust. When not under thrust, there is no gravity and people either float or use mag boots.
So here's the thing about the layout of this ship. It's an MCRN battleship from the series "The Expanse", and they don't have artificial gravity. Everything is hard science. So they only have "thrust gravity". They'll fire up the main thruster, and while in transit, they will have gravity in relation to the direction of thrust. Hence the layout making the bottom of the ship actually the direction motive rear.
Just to inform you Aaron, the deck layout is more than interesting or space saving. It's the a vertical layout since it's based on a ship that uses a fusion drive to give it constant acceleration and thus gravity (since grav based tech doesn't exist in the Expanse universe). A textbook construction for nuclear ships such as torchships or fission ships from Project Orion.
The movie you are talking about is District Nine and the Ship itself is from the Expanse (which I highly recommend) where this ship class is the mainstay Juggernaut of one of the major factions.
With the vast array of weapon emplacements on this battleship, I think it is safe to say that this battleship can easily crush anything that is not an equal to it in firepower. The placement of the weapons also creates the perspective that this ship has no blind spots in its fields of fire.
So, the reason it is built tower-style is because in The Expanse (the TV show this ship is from) artificial gravity has not been invented, so "gravity" is generated by the ship's forward thrust. It is also the MCR (Martian Congressional Republic)'s largest warship, so it is designed to be able to not only fight, but facilitate a variety of other operations that may require lots of crew members.
Nice recreation of the Donny! It does need to be MUCH bigger to be scale with The Expanse show. Since the Tachi/Rosinante can easily fit and fly around in the Donny's shuttle bay, and the Tachi is around 46 meters long. The Donny is around 475 meters long. And yes...pretty much the exact size of the Empire State building.
you should consider doing a mock battle with ships that you do. Doesn't have to be a ship copy battle but like against a star destroy or something just to get an idea of how it works
This is heavily modified MCRN Donnager Class Battleship from the Syfy TV Series The Expanse. Original Donnager had only 4 Torpedo bays, Gatling Guns used as PDC´s and 2 heavy Rail Guns.
it's actually a good idea to have the decks spread out like that because if it was one deck along the lateral line 1 hullbridge can depressurize that entire deck a lot more space this way if one that gets breached the others should be fine and it's not such a large space
for warships, you should paste in 2 of them, set one to pirates and have them fly past each other. or another ship of comparable size and power so we can see all the weapons in action
The decks are arranged as such because if the ship is accelerating at 9.8 m/s/s, one gee of force will be generated and the deck arrangement is to take full advantage of the 'gravity' the burn produces.
All these comments about the expanse... seriously though Aaron go watch it! NOW! This is entirely based in realistic rocket orientation and everything!
Dude... have a battle with that thing! get sage and Scott and a few other people, just see if you can build something that can take that sucker down or if you are screwed
Would be good to see how this fair against a meteor storm. It's a good way to check the weapons coverage and whether or not there's too much weapons. As in you are hitting yourself
So I see everyone in the comments talking about The Expanse, but when i saw the exterior shots of the ship, it screamed HALO at me. Especially the front. Anyone with me on that?
Aron or Arron you should do more dfl/dog fighting league/ because it is really cool to see the fighters that people had created also it is really helpful if you are stuck on designing something (like if you agree plus go and watch the videos he has done)
Little disappointed with the interior, TBH. One of my favorite things about The Expanse is the lack of magic gravity tech, which means that all the ships are built vertically like skyscrapers so that they can have gravity while under acceleration. The decks on the Donnager wouldn't actually be like Star Trek or Star Wars decks. The bottom of the ship is the engines.
Not practical in SE was the key word there. These multi crew ships might be playable in SE 15 in a couple of decades with quantum computers and tachyon internet connections.
Dude.. this is the MCRN Donnager. If you haven't seen The Expanse, you should definitely check it out.
sporadicidiocy no Rocinante? Shame
I'd like to see that in SE as well, or maybe Avorion, too.
It's such a good show I finished it last night
thats on the workshop as well
i love the show and am watching season 2 and finished season one
Aaron... Go watch the the Expanse Series... There's a reason why the layout of the ship is like that, perpendicular to the engines....
Henrique Pimentel meant for thrist gravity
Henrique Pimentel Why is the layout like that? I watched the series but still dont quite understand
Shadow_Fighter they call it Thrust Gravity. basically think of it like the ship is a building with the engines at the botom and during the voyage is constantly under acceleration so that the acceleration provides gravity. this and centrifugal gravity are the only non magical ways of having gravity in space
Henrique Pimentel Oh i see. Thank you!
its the most realistic way to build a starship
The cringe while watching this was to hard if you've ever seen the Exspance
Aaron, check out the expanse, the ships are made that way to give the crew simulated gravity while under thrust. Also, Don ah ger not Don Anger
Just wanted to point out since you don't seem to be familiar with this ship. This is a Martian battleship from The Expanse. If you read the books or watch the show then you'll understand all of the crazy design choices made in this ship. (Also you totally should read/watch the series. It's amazing)
Yeah, like the orientation of the decks is intended to simulate gravity while the thrusters are burning at 1G.
These design choices are NOT "crazy". It is the whole of mainstream pseudoscience-fiction that is crazy, with it's myriad of ridiculous spacecrafts built like boats, incapable of functioning in space without magical gravity and inertial dampeners.

GabDubé I was about to make this same comment XD
That's no tea party Rock hopper, that's the flagship of the MCRN
REMEMBER THE CANT
TheMadmanAndre i CANT remember. 😇
Is it just my impression or is it possible that Aaron has not watched the Series "The Expanse". MAJOR FAIL!
Correct immediately! It will not disappoint!
Agreed, will give him great inspiration for designs.
"Inspiration" haha....
Henrique Pimentel or he should read the series it is really good
Agreed!
Sir Isaac Newton beeing the bades son of a bitch in space!
Im taking this as a: Aron has not watched the expanse.
Which well, disapointing really.
But really, both the workshop title and discription directly mentions where the ship is from, would a couple of miniutes on a wiki page hurt that much?
kris220b don't trust the Wikipedia
Toxic Gamer Actually the wiki pages on books/movies are often created, edited, reviewed and corrected by a fan base and are often very accurate
Feal like you missed the actual point here.
Technically the Donnager is taller than the Empire state building.
Greg Anliker
The Donnager was 455m tall/long
watch the expanse. and then re-review please! it'll make so much more sense (and you'll have the proper pronunciation)
Where's the Tachi? It's not the Donnager without the Tachi.
Tachi? That's a weird way of saying "legitimate salvage"
Aaron, did you have a *Stroke* when you said Don-Na-Ger?
Previously on the expanses
Ripped right out of the Expanse, even if he's made SUBSTANTIAL errors!
The Expanse... I knew there was something familiar about the ship and its vertical interior layout. That's because it is supposed to achieve gravity through Constant Acceleration.
Oh come on, Aron. You can't just showcase a massive battleship with an enormous arsenal of weapons without shooting something with them.
90% of the comments are "Have you ever watched The Expanse?!?!"
The reason for the layout is because in the Expanse series, ships don't particularly have artificial gravity. They use the ships acceleration as it's "gravity"
99% of comments are "go watch The Expanse"
Because you should watch it.
Have you ever watched The Expanse?
Austin Newberry Lol, I have Just finished the last episode of season 2. Did you see the Monster inside the Rocinante. I've always wanted to make the ships and the rocinante We need moreeeeeee. Also, we need season 3
2KOOLURATOOL read the books
Aidan Mattson the books are better than the show
I agree with you on that one
If you're saying the show is shit, then the books have to be pretty bloody amazing to put it in that light. I should get on that reading list.
Who are we? MMC!
Aaron, seriously, watch The Expanse, you will almost definitely enjoy it.
*REMEMBER THE CANT!!!!*
Aaron, I absolutely love your work and what you do man. Been fallowing your joint survival with sage since pre-alpha and its just come so far since then. *Removing Intensifies*
Oh my god it’s actually like the expanse.
@LastStandGamers

DONNANNGGER?! It's MCRN Don-nah-ger! You should be ashamed of yourself! :D
expanse.wikia.com/wiki/Donnager
yes he should btw do you watch the show?
How come absolutely everyone has watched the expanse? I'm scared. How did I miss out on this.
Why do you never test them or crash them : /
HAVE YOU NOT SEEN THE EXPANSE.
There was clearly a disagreement between engineering and design teams over how many turrets is "too many"
You butchered the name right
The expanse! Watch it! It's amazing!
Beautiful Ship. I've been looking at Wildcards work a lot. Great Job!
Bluskys Thanks; Wildcard himself
We need to see this ship in a fight
Yep. In the Expanse universe, ships like this are considered space skyscrapers because of how they are built to deal with thrust. When not under thrust, there is no gravity and people either float or use mag boots.
"stormtrooper" don't u mean force recon marine?
No such thing as a marine in space, though. Marines, by definition and etymology, deploy overseas via a navy.
Dont you mean MMC?
MEIN GOD, It's like watching someone reviewing a Tesla Car without knowing a knowledge of Tesla Car
TY Aaron for the shout out!
Just to inform you Aaron, the deck layout is more than interesting or space saving. It's a replica from the famous Syfy tv show, the Expanse

"DONNA-JER"
This ship has so many cannons that you should test its ammo storage so that we can know for how long can it actually fire.
Awesome ship. Props to it's builder.
Nice recreation of the Donny! It does need to be MUCH bigger to be scale with The Expanse show. you should consider doing a mock battle with ships that you do. Doesn't have to be a ship copy battle but like against a star destroy or something just to get an idea of how it works
When every side is the broadside.
This ship have so much guns it should be classified as a star destroyer
This looks like a pable design guns on every inch of the ship
This is heavily modified MCRN Donnager Class Battleship from the Syfy TV Series The Expanse. Original Donnager had only 4 Torpedo bays, Gatling Guns used as PDC´s and 2 heavy Rail Guns.
Which, in the Expanse Universe, is still a lot of weaponry.
it's actually a good idea to have the decks spread out like that because if it was one deck along the lateral line 1 hullbridge can depressurize that entire deck a lot more space this way if one that gets breached the others should be fine and it's not such a large space
Remember the Donn!
0:17 ....... stop.... its pronounced don-a-jer and its from a TV show not an original design
I'd like to see a full crew battle another ship with this.
The stack layout of the floors are meant to generate gravity from the thrust of the engines, not some pseudoscience gravity generator.
for warships, you should paste in 2 of them, set one to pirates and have them fly past each other. or another ship of comparable size and power so we can see all the weapons in action
The decks are arranged as such because if the ship is accelerating at 9.8 m/s/s, one gee of force will be generated and the deck arrangement is to take full advantage of the 'gravity' the burn produces.
Someone built the Donnie. Incredible! I wonder if they knew that there is an Epstein Drive mod for the game?
Donnanger... -.- you've got to be fucking kidding me
SHOW THIS ONE IN BATTLE!!!
Nah, It died in it's first encounter in the show.
Pride of Mars, what a joke.
Not it's first battle though, and it was outnumbered. It had already spent time around Jupiter fighting pirates.
Greg Anliker poor shed
according to the wiki, there are 2 other donnager-class battleships in service in the Martian navy, so not a complete wipe out
Well, her crew are relatively inexperienced in actual combat, and Captain Yao was overconfident thinking the attackers posed no threat.
TheEmperorSRB dude it died because it got boarded it kills every stealth ship in the fleet.
"Well, whoever they are, and whatever they've come to do? It's just become a suicide mission."
"I thought we couldn't lose..."
It would be cool if there was a game of space engineers battleship
The Donnager. Flagship of the MCRN Jupiter Fleet. A quarter-million tons of BAD FUCKING NEWS.
its the donnager (don ajer) from the show exspance you should watch it youll like it if you like space
All these comments about the expanse... seriously though Aaron go watch it! NOW!
This is entirely based in realistic rocket orientation and everything!
MCRN Donnager equipped with guided missels, torpedos , rail guns, cwis, etc
"This is the Don'N'ger battleship" XD
has any one else noticed that the MK-3 battle ship canon has become the m-2 .50 cal of Space engineers
Because the rooms are stacked, does that cause problems when you add gravity or level the ship out?
you missed the bottom half of the ship 😂😂😂😂
make a playlist of these kind of videos
Make a video to prove its strength against an entire fleet of small fast and agile fighters, with corvette's supporting them.
Dude... have a battle with that thing!
get sage and Scott and a few other people, just see if you can build something that can take that sucker down or if you are screwed
The front won't last 2 minutes in a straight up fight. One warhead and it's done.
Anyone with me on that?
the ship IS from the Expanse
But several parts of the show look like Halo, so not that surprising
awesome ship
arron, you need to put this ship into a fight
how do u get into this mde just started the game and idk how to get ehere
Don-ah-Jer pronounced like onager, the type of catipult
why mot Show the firing padern and the defense Situation?
Nice job
Aron or Arron you should do more dfl/dog fighting league/ because it is really cool to see the fighters that people had created also it is really helpful if you are stuck on designing something (like if you agree plus go and watch the videos he has done)

What mod are those giant gyros from?
District 13!!!??!?!? NO NO NO NO NO
its district 9!
you should also add in to these vids a weapons test
Not practical in SE was the key word there.
These multi crew ships might be playable in SE 15 in a couple of decades with quantum computers and tachyon internet connections.
Don-ah-jer. Do not insult the MCRN - it isn’t a mistake one can make twice.
I'd get this game if I had any hope that my computer would run it
Why no weapons test?
The movie is District 9, but you were close.
what is the outro mus8c?
i wish one day see my spaceship in this series
