Mavis Emberson And I grew up in London in the 70’s under socialist governments. Harold Wilson. James Callaghan. Coal. Has. Electricity. Car industry. All nationalized. We had strikes. Work to rule. Fire department strikes. Garbage men strikes. Power outages. Inflation and double digit interest rates. 90 percent tax over 1 million pounds that chased the producers out of the country. Not as bad as Eastern Europe however still a mess. Thank God for Margaret Thatcher.

Dunno what the issue with interviewer is. Is pleasant and polite and asks questions that allow Víctor to expand and talk, and then she lets him expand and talk, and the next question is relevant to the last answer not just off a sheet
She may or may not know huge amounts about the subject, I literally don’t know, but her task here is to prompt victor, not to compete with him, so it doesn’t matter anyway
So if she couldn’t compete, so what. And if she could, but doesn’t, well done her I say
    🤷‍♂️

VDH is quite brilliant as most would agree. He is a fountain of wisdom and logic with a pedigree shaped during the sweat and toil of his days working the family acreage. Like many of you I listen to and or view any podcast or cable news segment featuring him, as well look for and read his articles.
Perhaps it was a slip of the tongue, however in Dr. Hanon's line of comments regarding tragic heroes in classic westerns he mentions Gary Cooper in "Shane." Alan Ladd is the star of the movie (and I believe Ladd's portrayal of the character Shane to be his finest), not Coop. The movie is a favorite of mine for a couple of reasons: As a kid I was on the set during production in Jackson, WY and vividly remember many sensory experiences that are still quite alive in my thoughts. (My dad did many movies with director George Stevens and his partners Frank Capra and William Wyler.) "Shane" presents an authentic look at a handful of families, typical of the melting pot of cultures that carved the growth of the nation as pioneers, then settlers migrating west of Saint Louis. The internal and external struggles of each family unit, the shaping of a community that faced the power of a ruling class protected by its hired guns - classic symbolism, plus a really honest fringe edge of romantic attraction to the dangerous stranger as given us by the always mysterious Jean Arthur in her final movie role. It is a great choice by VDH. Thank you Dr. Hanson.

Plato wanted to 'cancel' Homer from his ideal Republic because he thought the Iliad depicted the gods in shameful ways; Plato thought that if young people read about the gods acting in adulterous and avaricious conduct, those young people would be inspired to act in like manner.

    • @maxwillson
      @maxwillson 4 года назад +1

It is and historians don't know exactly why witchhunts ended. Some speculate it ended when they targeted the wrong rich families. Cancel culture will most likely end when they attempt to cancel an ultra rich Liberal with lots of power. We're about to witness a flip flop in political opinions we've never seen before. My gut tells me this will happen days before the election.

Of course, and it was harsher. But it wasn’t so stupid and trite for the purpose of destroying the culture while technocrats push wokeness to transcend individual and national sovereignty.
…. But there’s an error in classical liberalism and the Ayn Raynd mentality getting us to worship captains of industry and consumerism, with the problems out of the Age of Reason. And classic/neo liberalism both bottleneck through neoconservatism and progressivism. There’s a factor here where culture, freedom and economics are only held up as an illusion by the neocons and right wing positivists. We don’t have a conservative and classic liberal/libertarian alliance with people like Victor Davis Hansen, Hayek, Sir Roger Scruton, Sowell, Murray, Jordan Peterson, Tom Woods etc. We have corporatist talk radio and red meat influencers who turned culture into an identity badge slogan that radicals and establishments can tear through at will.
As much as the Trump movement was a result of the Puritanism of the left, and globalists, it’s also a decay of the state and belief systems that was also present in the French Revolution, and hierarchy worship. There’s a logical endpoint of positivism and the Prussianization of America refusing to admit and correct any of its errors. The secular conservatives, Fox establishment, fundamentalists, hardcore neocons, and alt right, who all hate each other were willing to have a gentleman’s agreement around Trump. This is a clinging to a right wing cartoon version of history to counter the left wing cartoon version of history.

The poet Shelley had to get the hell out of England because he was being threatened by the Govt with a charge of sedition; that is, for saying what he thought in his poetry. So he hotfooted it to Italy, where he drowned.

Cancel culture dates back to Cain. He cancelled his brother Abel. All cancel culture has the same source. Cain was a godless rebel and was doing what his spiritual DNA dictated. "For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies,
ways hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies" -John 8:44.
The godless have no moral governor. If you are an inconvenience to them they will cancel you and wont think twice about it. Thay are in the Line of their murderous thug ancestor Cain

Ostracism in Greek culture was a big thing. It's all in who writes history is it not? Ted Cruz will be next and the Left will think Donald Trump was not that bad...

Was there an ancient cancel culture? Without time to actually listen to this now, let me point out that the four books written about Jesus 30 years after Jesus’s death survived antiquity. So far as we know, the 11 volumes of Augustus’s and however many of Tiberius‘s did not. Tiberius was the official bad uberguy of the New Testament. We still won’t let him speak for himself.

Maybe not knowing their history, all the mob could understand was the look of an old statue, verses the individual and historical actions those individuals may have done? Old statue bad, must be destroyed. I sorta like the idea, knock off the head, and put a likeness of Obama on a horse riding confederate general. Only finding any artisans, and craftsman in this modern age, and modern art may have been a challenge.
