I've had the linkbuds s for just over a year. I got the space a40s yesterday, got them all set up and went out with them today. I have really small ears. Whilst the space a40s do stay in my ears, I find the linkbuds s more comfortable.

Yes, the Space A40s originally had weak bass right out of the box. Soundcore released an update quickly that resolved that issue. And yes, you will need use the app to update the earbuds.

Agre a40 good value for money and battery life. Linkbud s is good but here in Australia linkbuds is around $100 - $150 aud more than the a40 depending on the shop. I don't think linkbuds is $150 more of an erbuds.
For call quality, I would go with the engine 4 in this case. To answer your second question, from the earbuds I own, I would go with the Earfun Air Pro 3s.
Can't speak to sound quality. Not an audiophile. But anc in space a40 is passable only. Not much better than just having the just the earbuds n normal mode. My old soundpeats t2 are clearly better. The Sony wins it for anc. Also more confortable. Usability with the customization, the a40 wins easily. For me anc is often needed, so very disappointed on the a40

....I Guess I Am Spoiled But The A40 Just Do Not Move Me At All Sound Wise . ....The A40 ANC Was Impressive And The Fit Is Great Too . ....I'm Spoiled From Using My Willsound MK2 Connected Via 2.5 Balanced To My Fiio BTR7 Bluetooth Recieverr Using LDAC Codec Set To Highest 909 to 990 Bitrate & My Willsound MK2 Only Cost $35.00 . ....This Is Basically A Wired Wireless Set Up That Sounds Like AweSomeNess PerSoNiFied Which I Can't Say About The A40 Sound Even Though I Also Used LDAC Codec With A40 Set To Highest Bitrate As Well But I'm Not Feeling The Sound Quality. ....My Previous Galaxy Buds 2 Pros They Moved Me Sound Wise .

The linkbud S were good for a little over a year but both batteries now last just minutes instead of hours and Sony will not repair or replace them:(
