"This young lady sings with so much more than her voice." Yes, that is exactly it. This is her entire body, heart and mind singing these songs. What a gift she is.
I am a well-grown man who mostly listens to heavy metal, hard rock and punk rock. But Aurora manages to almost make me cry every time I listen to her. She has become a big favorite 🙂
If you like hard rock and metal, and also good lyrics and interpretations move your feelings, I highly recommend The Warning, 3 Mexican sisters who today are 24, 22 and 19 years old and have been there for more than 10 as a band. three original albums, a fourth to be released. It's like bringing the best of rock from the 80s, 90s and early 2000s with a fresh twist. If you want to listen to them in full rock mode, I'll give you Evolve live at last year's MTV MVA and if you want to listen to them more on a sentimental level , Black Holes live at dakota bar, always makes me tear up. I also recommend any song from the live show they did at the Metropolitan Theater 2022, that show is worth it. the best power trio of the last decades without a doubt. greetings.
As others have suggested, "Churchyard" live at KEXP Iceland 2018 is the natural follow-up to "Murder Song" and "It Happened Quiet." It's about the same subject matter, and that performance in particular is absolutely fantastic.
Silja Sol was in Aurora's band for many years providing wonderful vocals and bass synth for Aurora. She left to pursue her own career. She's definitely missed.
For a Norwegian, the concept of feathers falling from a pillow is something we all recognise. We are used to having our pillows filled with down and feathers and these occasionally sprinkle out and dance in the air on their way to the floor. But if you are not used to such pillows, you can understand that the term appears strange.
What a powerful song. No clue if your interpretation is correct. Goes to show how powerful music is. Doesn't need big production, doesnt need a huge band. Just needs heart.
Love this one 😊.She started writing as therapy, and what she sees/hears/reads affect her a lot. From what I gather, this one is a bout domestic violence. "Through the eyes of a child" she wrote when she could only see darkness in the world more or less, and she had to get it out of her system. Very sensitive and emphatic, and the emotions making her write the songs come back when she performs. She's great on the headset (very well produced albums), but watching her adds something extra. I seldom wait for new albums of artists anymore, but hers are exceptions.
I'm almost 50yrs young. And never before has any musician gotten so much in my emotions as Aurora does. I have hear this song like a 1000 times, and still each times it brings me to tears. She is so freeking amazing. I just ❤her
She’s helped me through so much of my depression and understanding myself when it comes to this world… she helped me to be fully human in all the ways we are both good and bad. I just adore her.
Aurora has said in interviews that she likes people to find their own meaning to her songs. For another side to Aurora 'The Seed' is a good one. Great reaction thanks 😊👍
Churchyard (brit slang for graveyard) is a prequel to this song. In it, the window is closed and the abuse is verbal. It's the first song of the KEXP concert which is a good intro to her upbeat, dancable music.
Great reaction to a hauntingly beautiful song. Aurora really excels at meaningful lyrics and shining a light on dark subjects. I would love for you to react to a favorite performance of mine, Soft Universe, live at Nidarosdomen. Thanks.
"Churchyard" is a good followup. In an interview, Aurora said about the song: "Churchyard is just like the concept of someone bigger using their power in the wrong way, that happens all the time in politics, with children, women. I wanted the songs to feel empowering - like at the end of 'Churchyard', she comes back to haunt him."
I think there has been a mix up by Aurora or some interviewer about this description. She said something very similar about It Happened Quiet at a Bergen show, before performing the song (that the female character comes back to hunt him, which fits with the lyrics in IHQ). I think it is a mix up because it doesn't make sense in the context of Churchyard, there is no such story telling lyrics in that song that fits that description.
@@kentsolgule5362 "So that dark male influence that we see in new songs like “Churchyard” - you’re not talking about Trump there?" "Not exactly. But he’s a bully. His thing is to be outrageous. Do you think he knows what he’s doing? It’s scary to see a leader persona like that, how his speech is the opposite of everything everyone has fought for before him. It proves how quickly a big group of humans can just switch around if someone feeds their anger and fear. It’s really scary."
At about 6:12 (of your reaction), you had your eyes closed for one of the most telling moments in her performance... watch her shudder as she sings ".. it happened quiet, so quiet". She embodies emotion and empathy, which is why, IMO, she affects me so much. Good reaction!
"Who's this lady?" Silja Sol is only the best backup vocalist Aurora has ever worked with. She recently left Aurora's band to pursue her own music career. She is dearly missed. Nobody else has been able to match Aurora's vocals like Silja did. She's amazing. I don't think this song is connected to Murder Song. While Aurora is a story teller, I think this song is more about a toxic relationship, and losing one's innocence, rather than being connected to a mercy k*lling.
Hi. If I understand correctly, this song talks about domestic violence, from the victim's perspective, it's as if it were the victim's ghost, I guess that's why she can't remember much else.
This was the first video and song years ago of finding Aurora I was hooked from that day on. She is the most perfect human being ever created inside and out. Just amazing talent and spirit.
I know these are older videos but I just discovered your channel and I've been binging your Aurora reactions. First of all I love your reactions and I love your vulnerability. Second of all you have to thank your followers, this is one of the best "Best order of discovering Aurora" lists I've ever seen. Your guys did a really good job of introducing her in what I would consider the right way.
Thank you for your excellent reaction. This is my first time seeing you react to Aurora and I look forward to more. She is absolutely delightful. As you have already heard Murder Song and It Happened Quiet, may I suggest you also listen to Churchyard (Live on KEXP) as it is related.
The other woman is Silja Sol, who was providing backing vocals and synth during the Nidarosdomen concert as well. They don't play together anymore (Silja stepped away to work on her solo stuff, again). I don't think this song is connected to Murder Song (other than it having sad vibes and death). This is more thematically connected to Churchyard in that it's about domestic violence, power, and revenge. As others have mentioned, the KEXP version of Churchyard is probably the best one to see (that whole six-song concert is fire).
Unique is a word that is too often misused but it fits Aurora to a t. The sublime harmonies of Aurora and Silja are astonishing and are an aspect that I don't think has been matched by the others who have performed with Aurora since Silja left the group (I think the same can be said for Magnus' drumming). So far, you have seen Aurora in her brilliant Nobel Peace Prize concert performance and the artistic masterpiece of Nidarosdomen. So next, you should take a look at the HAIK documentary/concert to see Aurora perform in one of her favourite places, the forest where she played in her childhood. The concert is pure musical magic. The documentary part will give you an insight into Aurora's amazing personality as well.
Aurora is just absolutely amazing. Especially live. One that you should definitely listen to is Lucky live as well. That song was actually the very first song I heard, it found me when I was in a dark place and really touched my soul.
Nive react. You can never be completly wrong in an Aurora's song interpretation, considering they are mainly open to interpretation, and that's what she want. :) In my opinion, Murder Song isn't about euthanasia, it's about murder. The perpetrator of the crime thinks he's saving the person from suffering... that the world is too cruel for that person... which, in a way, is true for everyone. But in the end, he commits the crime out of possessiveness. A way of keeping the murdered person close for forever. It seems that the victim feels a kind of empathy for they killer... or can't believe what the other is doing. Seeks to defend they even in death... as do many victims (before their death) of violence and abuse. Note that empathy seems to me to be a deeply rooted character in A. For this song, I think the subject is also violence in a domestic relationship, which ends with someone being thrown out of a window and killed.
What i always find weird in murder song is the lyrics "I know he knows that he is killing me for mercy" Thinking that these songs are connected Murder song is a telling from the one being murder and i found those lyrics like she is convincing herself that if he killed her is because he knew it was for the best Why not, "i know he is killing me for mercy " Or "he knows he is killing me for mercy" The i know he knows feel like she had to convince herself that he is not willingly hurting her, cause in the lyrics is not clear that she is killed becuase of sickness he is only "protecting her" from the "awful things in life" if its connected to churchyard and this one, it can mean that she was manipulated into believing his aggressor But i dunno it might be too dark to be that
Please look for: Aurora warrior HAIK. This versión is going to make you feel so much, it's a concert for only 2 fans, the girls looks like going to suffer heart attack, very very special moment.
Like I mentioned on your last Aurora reaction, I recommend All Is Soft Inside live at KEXP 2018 in Iceland. It’s a more upbeat sound and you’re gonna be able to see Aurora’s cute and quirky side 💜
to my knowledge this song is actually connected to her song Churchyard not Murder song. interpretation is always open, but i believe this song is about domestic violence which turns to murder, and she comes back to haunt him. you should check out Churyard live KEXP iceland. great reactions Tek.
If you want something that shows her more intense side “The Seed” music video is an incredible song with a great message. If you want to see a more goofy and fun side to her performances check out “All is Soft Inside” from the 2018 KEXP live performance. Love the reactions and glad you are continuing to checking out Aurora!
I believe that It Happened Quiet is not at all connected to Murder Song, but rather to Churchyard, which is the song that follows immediately after It Happened Quiet in the album the songs were released in (Infections of a Different Kind - Step 1). I highly recommend you to listen, and perhaps react in a video to Churchyard as well, since it provides additional context for It Happened Quiet. That is of course only my interpretation.
listen to "Lucky" live from her concert in Nidarosdomen and its beautiful. plus she has alot of new stuff out there too which is different to this. "Cure for me" is great.
@celinel9750 writes from another reaction to her "Lucky" song... "This is her anti-suic!de song, "before I make the offering" as I give up, I remember all the ppl I've seen and place that I've been... I FEEL the light" that is for me me the most powerful line, not only seeing the light but feeling the light, from inside, the spark that make you choose to stay."
Other folks interpret this as about an abusive or toxic relationship. "Love is wild". The lyrics do seem to imply bloody violence, but I don't think they relate directly to the story in "Murder Song". Here, "It happened quiet". The other was not quiet. Aurora seems to have a great imagination and ability to create stories. Clearly she is quite observant of the world around her, and what she sees finds it's way into her songs.
For me Murder Song is essentially a song about a mercy killing and I can very much relate to it not only because my late wife (who died of cancer) and I spoke about that as a possible 'solution' for her anticipated suffering. But "It Happened Quiet" is just the opposite of Murder Song. The "Love is wild" in this song about domestic violence is extremely different from the love between the 'murderer' and his 'victim' in Murder Song.
still her very best performance. have you tried eivor yet? she is from the faroe islands and absolut unrivaled. top of the top, try falling free live at the old theater in tórshavn. phenomenal vocals, phenomenal band
@@teckreactions it's not to late to do so, right? she is not only a classically trained sopran, but also owns a masters degree in traditional nordic vocal techniques. she will carry you away. she also did music for the netflix series the last kingdom or the computer game god of war. if you want something in this direction, i reccomend the last kingdom main theme live at apollo hammersmith. she is home in so many genres, it's difficult to name a favourit song. too much good material to pick from
I think others answered your questions already. In my interpretation it is about domestic violence (or something similar) which ended probably badly. Song is incredible beautiful and I love this version too. Harmonies between Aurora and Silja Sol are as always amazing. I would recommend Lucky live in Nidarosdomen next :).
We all are a mess after listening to Aurora. Sometimes very sad topics, but the never leave me sad, contrary I always feel revitalised after. Great reactions! Thank you! 👌👏🙏🏼
Even Americans get the image of the feathers. Aurora is telling another story about lovers whose relationship that ended violently. The harmonies sound so angelic, I forget the subject! For a palate cleanser listen to her cover of Rasputin where she is just adorable! Another amazing video is Helvegen sung by Wardruna ft Aurora: a very old Norse song!
You should 100% listen to her performance ''Lucky'' live at Nidarosdomen. It speaks to many who have ever been in a dark place and found the will to carry on.
Thank you for this reaction. My first time hearing this song. Read the lyrics 3 times and I think it is referencing individual strength and the relevance of community and selflessness, but I suspect the question may be the point in itself?
It Happened Quiet is actually connected to a song I've done before... I continue a story I started 2 years ago... So yes, I've had these personal stories [on the album], of what I see is going on in the world and find unfair, and I just kind of wanted to bring them into light."[3] The lyrics are possibly about domestic violence, (sexual) assault or revenge. This depends on the listener, as Aurora stated that the songs of this album can have different meanings. Best regards from Norway 🇳🇴
I wonder why noone has requested anything from Leprous to a drummer? Especially their song Slave, live at Rockefeller Music Hall. Or anything with their drummer Baard Kolstad for that sake. But yeah, check out Leprous with Slave, Live at Rockefeller Music Hall to have your brains blown in the best possible way! (Oh, they're Norwegian as well, just like Aurora)
Aurora is one of a kind I love her music. Here are some other artists that are one of a kind... You are obligated to react to them!!!😁 Eivor " Falling free" (and so many more songs) Kalandra "Borders", official music video (and so many more songs) Chris Kläfford "Cold at the altar", official music video) (and so many more songs) Be safe
I think you’re wrong, as are the people who steered you to look for link between this and Murder, 5 4 3 2 1 … listen to the song again and tell me if you think this may be better interpretation … there is violence in it, between lovers, a man and a women, it’s domestic violence from the women’s perspective.
Wow, you’ve been on a path through some of her most troubling / sad works. There are more positive, inspiring pieces, too! Queendom, Warrior, Daydreamers, Cure for me, Exist For Love, in fact, the live KEXP set is very balanced and shows wild percussive, elemental energy that I think you’d enjoy. Quite wild and wonderful.
Hi TECKKreacts , and what if you listen to this song again and try to connect it with nature, it is no secret that Miss Asknes is strongly connected to nature and what is happening to her, it is her style of composition of the song that hides the message she wants to deliver.. ..nevertheless, everyone can interpret the lyrics of her song in their own way, and that's also okay, because she does it on purpose, it's fascinating to listen to her lyrics....there's no need to say anything about her voice and the voice of Silia Sol, just listen.
Aurora has never made a connection between the songs. Murder song was inspired from that "mercy killing" you mentioned. But this is just a short story.
Agreed both songs might be about murder but totally different motivations. This is abuse, possibly SA from the descriptors in the song. Tragic but stunningly beautiful song.
isn't she so special....? she has the amazing ability to connect to everyone's emotional core....this song is dark - about a complicated love affair that may be "dead"......."are your dreams as dead as they seem? I bleed in your bed, turn it red like the ground outside your window".........."love is wild" and not in a good way.................
Aurora has not been totally clear about the exact meaning of this song, and I've actually heard her say, sometimes she doesn't realize herself until much later, what a song was really about. It's generally taken to be about some sort of domestic abuse - she's also said a difficult relationship. Aurora has said these songs mean different things to different people. As far as I know, she's never clarified either the origin of this song or its exact meaning, except saying it's connected to a song that she did before, which I think people have taken to be murder song. I heard her refer to these songs, in a recent interview, with some sort of mental health term, apparently meaning they were a bit mad. If you take the lyrics literally, the song appears to be about someone being thrown out of a window, and coming back to haunt the perpetrator.
She has definitely said what this song is about, and before she sings it at KEXP Seattle she says that it’s about two lovers and that one is killed by the other. Here’s from interviews: “‘It Happened Quiet’ and ‘Churchyard’ - which is about someone that is stronger… a grown up with a child, a teacher with a student - someone that takes advantage of their power and uses it in the wrong way. It’s inspired by domestic violence.” AURORA “In my more delusional stories like ‘It Happened Quiet’ and ‘Churchyard’, the victim comes back to haunt the one that hurt them.” AURORA
@@lillm6874 - Thank you very much for this. I've never listened to the whole KEXP Seattle concert, much preferring the KEXP Iceland concert. I had always assumed it was about one partner killing the other, because it is pretty direct in the lyrics, but I didn't want to put words into Aurora's mouth. Likewise I said "mental health term", because couldn't remember the exact term, and once again, didn't want to misrepresent Aurora. I'd also forgotten she mentioned Churchyard, in relationship to this. Churchyard seemed pretty dark, but I wasn't sure.
I think you might be correct regarding two perspectives of a story... I'm not sure, but like to believe these songs are about (or inspired by) the story of Dagny Juel, a norwegian avant-garde artist in the 1890s (poet, dancer, and pianist, and model for the Madonna painting by Munch). She was killed by a friend and deep admirorer of hers in 1901, just befor her 34th birthday. She was resting on a couch. He also shot himself, but left several letters with explanations. Some parts indicated it was a mercy killing or a collective suacide. To her husband he wrote ...I'we done what you should have done long time ago... To her 5-year old son he wrote ...I'm taking here away from you....its for her best... she is not from this world, she is a Godess,...her mission on earth was accomplished by giving birth to you..." (loose citations from what I recall, from The Woman's Museum and NRK, Norway). It's not unlikely he actually was in a psycosis while she was unaware... In Murder song the victim tries to understand, defend and forgive the killer, while here she is more confrontive, e.g. "Don't you speak ower my voice" - could it represent the victims rejection of letters/story the murderer left behind?

I think this song is about developing Multiple personalities/dissociative personality disorder after trauma. But Aurora is open to different interpretations to her songs.
There is another reactor, The Charismatic Voice, who made me convinced of that interpretation. I also think the trauma is from violence and abuse, like others here have written. But it seems like someone is removing oneself from ones emotions. I really recommend seing The Charismatic Voice’s insightsful reaction to this video.
Nice reaction to this beautiful song but with very sad lyrics❤️ It was inspired by domestic violence, she gets killed and in the end she comes back to haunt him🥹 She sings from the woman’s perspective. It’s not connected to “Murder Song”, both songs are about murder, but in a very different way. “Churhyard” is also inspired by domestic violence, I recommend it live at KEXP Iceland 2018👍

That’s fair
What i always find weird in murder song is the lyrics
"I know he knows that he is killing me for mercy"
Thinking that these songs are connected
Murder song is a telling from the one being murder and i found those lyrics like she is convincing herself that if he killed her is because he knew it was for the best
Why not, "i know he is killing me for mercy "
Or "he knows he is killing me for mercy"
The i know he knows feel like she had to convince herself that he is not willingly hurting her, cause in the lyrics is not clear that she is killed becuase of sickness he is only "protecting her" from the "awful things in life" if its connected to churchyard and this one, it can mean that she was manipulated into believing his aggressor
But i dunno it might be too dark to be that
Please look for: Aurora warrior HAIK. This versión is going to make you feel so much, it's a concert for only 2 fans, the girls looks like going to suffer heart attack, very very special moment.
Like I mentioned on your last Aurora reaction, I recommend All Is Soft Inside live at KEXP 2018 in Iceland. It’s a more upbeat sound and you’re gonna be able to see Aurora’s cute and quirky side 💜
yes that performance is a great peek into her adorable quirkiness
Added!
I third this suggestion.
This! The KEXP set is a wonderful percussive experience, too.
Aurora + Silja Sol = Liebe!
to my knowledge this song is actually connected to her song Churchyard not Murder song. interpretation is always open, but i believe this song is about domestic violence which turns to murder, and she comes back to haunt him. you should check out Churyard live KEXP iceland. great reactions Tek.
Correct🥰
If you want something that shows her more intense side “The Seed” music video is an incredible song with a great message. If you want to see a more goofy and fun side to her performances check out “All is Soft Inside” from the 2018 KEXP live performance. Love the reactions and glad you are continuing to checking out Aurora!
You describe your experience of Aurora in much the same way I felt when I was discovering her 8 years ago… subscribed for more. 😊
Welcome aboard!
I FEEL the light" that
is for me me the most powerful line, not only seeing the light but feeling the light, from inside, the spark that make you choose to stay."
The accompanist is Silja Sol. 👍🏻
Silja Sol literally can sing the phonebook. Aurora is a stunner but those marmonies!
PLS DO her KEXP concert🎉
Churchyard is the first song
Thanks!
Oh wow. I’m so sorry to hear about your wife.
still her very best performance.
have you tried eivor yet? she is from the faroe islands and absolut unrivaled. top of the top, try falling free live at the old theater in tórshavn. phenomenal vocals, phenomenal band
I have not.
I would recommend Lucky live in Nidarosdomen next :).
it's a beautifully constructed sing about violence in a relationship 💔
We all are a mess after listening to Aurora. Sometimes very sad topics, but the never leave me sad, contrary I always feel revitalised after. Great reactions! Thank you! 👌👏🙏🏼
Thanks for sharing!
I got the feathers. I asked WHY the feathers were falling. Could be a pillow fight. Could be a gunshot. Could be my 8-year-old throwing a tantrum.
I've always taken the song as the perspective of someone being killed by domestic violence
If I remember correctly this song is about sexual assault and how it makes people feel
Watch Exist for Love.
It's about SA/DV..
It Happened Quiet is actually connected to a song I've done before... I continue a story I started 2 years ago... So yes, I've had these personal stories [on the album], of what I see is going on in the world and find unfair, and I just kind of wanted to bring them into light."[3]
The lyrics are possibly about domestic violence, (sexual) assault or revenge. This depends on the listener, as Aurora stated that the songs of this album can have different meanings. Best regards from Norway 🇳🇴
She has said it’s about domestic violence and that the woman gets killed
I wonder why noone has requested anything from Leprous to a drummer? Especially their song Slave, live at Rockefeller Music Hall.
Or anything with their drummer Baard Kolstad for that sake.
But yeah, check out Leprous with Slave, Live at Rockefeller Music Hall to have your brains blown in the best possible way!
(Oh, they're Norwegian as well, just like Aurora)
The best instrument I have ever heard is Aurora's voice.
❤
💙
Aurora is one of a kind
I love her music.
Here are some other artists that are one of a kind...
You are obligated to react to them!!!😁
Eivor " Falling free" (and so many more songs)
Kalandra "Borders", official music video (and so many more songs)
Chris Kläfford "Cold at the altar", official music video) (and so many more songs)
Be safe
❤❤❤
I think you’re wrong, as are the people who steered you to look for link between this and Murder, 5 4 3 2 1 … listen to the song again and tell me if you think this may be better interpretation … there is violence in it, between lovers, a man and a women, it’s domestic violence from the women’s perspective.
Domestic Violence
Wow, you’ve been on a path through some of her most troubling / sad works. There are more positive, inspiring pieces, too! Queendom, Warrior, Daydreamers, Cure for me, Exist For Love, in fact, the live KEXP set is very balanced and shows wild percussive, elemental energy that I think you’d enjoy. Quite wild and wonderful.
You don't have down feathers in your pillows? My condolences
I don’t think so. I’ve never ripped open my pillows.
That’s how I enjoy it. Thanks.
😊👍
another song for you to listen to is "Cure for Me" ruclips.net/video/K17df81RL9Y/видео.html
Her song titles are often the opposite of the meaning of the song. Runaway f ex is about finding home.:-)
You need yo doo cure for me now. Such a different style of her music
I believe Silja Sol is the other talented lady accompanying.
Here’s from interviews:
“‘It Happened Quiet’ and ‘Churchyard’ - which is about someone that is stronger… a grown up with a child, a teacher with a student - someone that takes advantage of their power and uses it in the wrong way. It’s inspired by domestic violence.” AURORA
“In my more delusional stories like ‘It Happened Quiet’ and ‘Churchyard’, the victim comes back to haunt the one that hurt them.” AURORA
@@stephenbarlow2493 👍🥰
Love your reactions, suggest you watch the music video of winter bird, if you want something a little more upbeat.

I guess the $100,000 question is: What is "It" in the title: "It Happened Quiet"? What happened quiet?🤔
I think this song is about developing Multiple personalities/dissociative personality disorder after trauma. But Aurora is open to different interpretations to her songs.
Interesting
There is another reactor, The Charismatic Voice, who made me convinced of that interpretation. I also think the trauma is from violence and abuse, like others here have written. But it seems like someone is removing oneself from ones emotions. I really recommend seing The Charismatic Voice’s insightsful reaction to this video.
Nice reaction to this beautiful song but with very sad lyrics❤️
It was inspired by domestic violence, she gets killed and in the end she comes back to haunt him🥹
She sings from the woman’s perspective.
It’s not connected to “Murder Song”, both songs are about murder, but in a very different way.
“Churhyard” is also inspired by domestic violence, I recommend it live at KEXP Iceland 2018👍
Crazy
♥♥♥♥♥
the studio version is so good as well, it would definitely make you cry !! pls do a reaction to it :))
I'll check it out!
@@teckreactions omg thank you ! Her lives are so much better than studio but then nobody reacts to the studio which is still really good !
React to omar sheriff - fairuz
More likely connects to churchyard than murder song. Murder song is a mercy killing it happens quiet (and churchyard) are about domestic violence.
Ah. I’m unfamiliar with that song.
I really love your videos. But sometimes your microphone seems to crack what's a bit distracting and I think it would be awesome to change your microphone someday if possible. I guess it will make the videos even more enjoyable ❤
And I really suggest The Seed from here too. It is so powerful.
Definitely an issue. Need more supporters so I can get a new system 😊
