Ecuadorians along the coast can swim but a lot of people who vacation here are from Quito and aren't the strongest swimmers. We continue to appreciate your efforts, and can relate to the time to put this together. I use the auto translate button as I think RUclips does a pretty good job at it. Not perfect but pretty good But I don't find their auto transcription good. It's easy to do but not good. Or maybe I don't speak clearly enough. It also doesnt get Spanish words correctly like names of towns or foods. Quito is keto and Cuenca is Cwanka. So spending the time to get the original transcription right also helps English speakers who may be seeing words for the first time like encebollado and making the connection between how the word is spelled and pronounced. I try to put the names of food on the right in text so people become more familiar with them. I actually always watch Netflix with subtitles on even when it's in English. I don't know why. @@ayngelina Wow! What an outstanding, and well explained answer! Yes, we noticed a few quirks like this on the last Q&A video. I believe they chopped trees down to make way for property developments. Not sure whether that was Tonsupa or Atacames. I'd love to know experiences of retirees, such as cost of living, HOA expenses, transport connections, availability of chicken or turkey meat(I'm not particularly a fish fan), what the quality of eggs is like in the Tia supermarket, whether the prodigious rainfall hinders daily life, and noise and crime levels.
I'd be interested to know where foreign residents go for groceries. I've already looked at Manta, Salinas, the usual places and though I could live there I'm looking for a different experience.@@ayngelina
I'm not sure. I don't want to live amongst a huge expatriate community, but on the other hand I don't care to be mugged in the street either. This situation has last for around 50 years. The Majors of Atacames, who are in charge of Tonsupa, one after a other, have done nothing, them have gone rich although. Tonsupa has the highest rates in municipal taxes, electrical bill and water bill.
It likely had stopped but I was dead asleep to the whole thing. I’m just so thankful we were in a two floor building. J can’t imagine what it would have been like in one of the Tonsupa high rises
Your North American attitude that the world is a dangerous place is disturbing ... and certainly doesn't do justice to such lovely places and cultures. Maybe just go, enjoy, and show the beauty ... and keep your own personal worries to yourself. They aren't that accurate and promote fear mongering.
Dennis I'm guessing you haven't watched many of my videos. The purpose of this Esmeraldas series is to show people that while many people don't come to this Province for its perceived danger. That the issues its having with crime is limited to specific areas and that similarly to Guayaquil, if you know where to go and where not to go you'll have issues. I have traveled solo throughout Latin America over the last 12 years so I have good perspective on the level of danger and risk. That said, this is a vlog. And most Ecuadorians and travelers avoid Esmeraldas because it has the highest levels of crime in the country and not all of it is safe. I'm traveling with an Ecuadorian who is also sharing their honest perspective as we explore this beautiful province. The funny thing is some people are giving me grief for promoting tourism here because they paint the whole province as crime ridden when it's not. And then you, without knowing my background or purpose, are slamming me for sharing my perspective.
I am from Ecuador and that ceviche looks weird, why is it so red? Haha Also deep fried bolon is typical of the "sierra", in the coast especially un Guayaquil is inusual to have a bolon with crust
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. In Esmeraldas things are made a bit differently with lots of flavour using sofrito. A lot of dishes have a deep red flavour, which could be the difference. Interesting about the bolon, that was why I hated Bolon de Tere so much... It was just a mash with no textural difference. Well that and the price! Although the only other place on the coast I've seen it unfried like that was Puerto Lopez otherwise every other bolon has been deep fried or pan fried. But the best bolon is coming Wednesday and it has shrimp in it!
@@ayngelina Although the "Picho" expression implies "rotten", or, "drunk", it is applied mostly in Colombia. There is more to it behind the Picho's name, in reality a nice story told by the owners.
The CevICHE is actually originally from Ecuador, not from Peru! That has been demonstrated by the dozens of Ecuadorian words with the Sufix ICHE. For instance, dishes like CorvICHE, fruits like PechICHE and towns like MonpICHE. So sorry Peruvians, but you stole that word like you stole the Pisco.
Thank you very much! I am not fluent in spoken Spanish, but I do understand it very well. It's a great Video! But I read about this somewhere. That's why I posted my comment
I should look into it a bit more. I always joke that I'm going to post a video that ceviche in Ecuador is the best because for some reason I think there is a segment of Peruvians who just search for Ecuadorian food on RUclips to comment that it is their own. I'd get a flood of views...although they'd all be trolls!
Not everyone feels the same way you do. And people avoid Esmeraldas because they have heard it's dangerous. This series here is to show people how they can travel and have a good time here. But also I have to be honest about how I felt too. This was my first two days and it's how I felt here.
@@ayngelina That is fine. I just do not like seeing a place like that labeled as dangerous. I would walk that at night alone before I would many areas of US cities. Business owners there are not going to allow people to be robbed and hurt their incomes. If the police do not handle things, the Ecuadorians' will often assure their own neighborhoods are crime free, and I really like that about them. Esmeraldas is probably only dangerous if you are involved with illegal activities.

They were very minor, and it was at times funny to see how they'd translated a simple "Um" comment. It is 100% better than nothing, and kept us very engaged watching it a 2nd time. Please allow us to confirm your English pronunciation is nothing short of fantasticly clear! We love your thoughtfullnes in helping even English speakers with genuine tongue twisters like encebollado, and of course Quito vs Keto, Cuenca vs Cwanka. Phonetically, it's right, but we both know how confusing this could be. We can only imagine how they'd spell Guayaquil. We too watch Netflix with subtitles, however take it a step further. If the English content doesn't offer Spanish audio or subtitles, we simply don't add it to our playlist. We do the same thing with RUclips. There's so much to watch.
Thanks for playing the long game, and being so considerate of your viewers.
You clearly are a key role model for how to build a community of loyal viewers, and we hope you inspire others to follow your lead.
Thank you. I do tell other people to do it! Even selfishly you can reach a bigger audience. But also I have lots of friends who don't speak English, so now they have no excuse not to watch my videos!
What kind of beer were you drinking at the restaurant in the opening?
Andrés prefers Club. I prefer Pilsner but I'll often defer to what he likes because I don't really care we usually get a big one and share it.
@@ayngelina We enjoy them both. Neither are too heavy, and really compliment many meals.
Yes, I mean I'm not going to complain if someone hands me a Club 🤣
I believe they chopped trees down to make way for property developments. Not sure whether that was Tonsupa or Atacames. I'd love to know experiences of retirees, such as cost of living, HOA expenses, transport connections, availability of chicken or turkey meat(I'm not particularly a fish fan), what the quality of eggs is like in the Tia supermarket, whether the prodigious rainfall hinders daily life, and noise and crime levels.
I think farther south would be a better fit for you as Esmeraldas has problems with crime and infrastructure since the earthquake.
I'd be interested to know where foreign residents go for groceries. I've already looked at Manta, Salinas, the usual places and though I could live there I'm looking for a different experience.@@ayngelina
What kind of experience are you looking for?
I'm not sure. I don't want to live amongst a huge expatriate community, but on the other hand I don't care to be mugged in the street either. I do want to be able to buy fresh chicken, eggs and pasta. Someone has recommended Santa Marta, Colombia. I do want to try Ecuador though. I was mainly attracted by the Professional Visa.@@ayngelina
Do you speak Spanish and what’s your experience traveling in Latin America?
How did that meal cost you guys
Which one
@@ayngelina the first one
@@ayngelina or all of them lol
Everything I think was under $10. I mention the costs for a bunch of the menu items in the bolon de verde segment
Go to Muisne, I think it’s a better beach though it’s ground zero for the 2016 mayor earthquake and it’s a very small town but the beach it’s fabulous!
It's on the to do list!
@@ayngelina I had the best fish encocado in Esmeraldas but that was almost 10 years ago, maybe you find a better place this time. I’ll be going to Ecuador next summer and I’m planning to visit Esmeraldas my birth place, but grew up in Cojimies which I hope you get to go and Pedernales two little towns. I recommend my cousin’s hostal La Mapara. There are so many places to go like Canoa and EL MATAL near JAMA.
Oh wow. When was the last you were home? Was it ten years ago?
@@ayngelina no, actually I was there on December but only for 10 days to visit my mom but she lives in Manta.
Oh I have a video coming up on Manta, will be interested to see what you think!
To eat all those different varieties of food😋😋
You don't know how many different types of bolon I've eaten BUT the best one I've ever had is in the next video. It has shrimp here!
tump up 10/10 program keep doing please.
Thanks so much!
I’m glad you ok after the earthquake
it was pretty scary. For weeks both Andres and I felt phantom tremors where we thought the ground was shaking but it wasn't.
@@ayngelina yeah earthquake r scary I was in one when I leave in California it was bad back in 87
@@henryle1940 I THINK TORNADOS R WORSE. CANT GO TO SLEEP THINKING THE WHOLE PLACE WILL GO FLYING. ruclips.net/video/6iSUxQwYsZk/видео.html and this is a small tornado.
You guys make me hungryyyyyyyyy
Believe me we were always hungry in Esmeraldas!
Saying hi on puter, movng to tv to watch, thanks!
Jim thank you so much for taking the time to comment from your computer. I love seeing the names of the people who watch.
The private sector has invested in Tonsupa millions of dollars, in real state.
The public sector unfortunately has done nothing for Tonsupa. The terrible state of the streets is evident. This situation has last for around 50 years. The Majors of Atacames, who are in charge of Tonsupa, one after a other, have done nothing, them have gone rich although.
Tonsupa has the highest rates in municipal taxes, electrical bill and water bill.
Oh this is interesting. I did not know that.
I'm a subscriber and like # 119
Thank you!
YOU DON'T LEAVE THE BUILDING IMMEDIATELY. YOU STAY INSIDE UNTIL IT STOPS SHAKING, THEN YOU LEAVE.
EXCUSAS ES ANGELYNA LA HERMOSA PRESENTADORA... IM SORRY
No se preoccupe, todo bien! Tengo mas videos de Esmeraldas pero creo que tengo que regresar. Dime todo su recommendaciones :)
I am from Ecuador and that ceviche looks weird, why is it so red? Haha
Also deep fried bolon is typical of the "sierra", in the coast especially un Guayaquil is inusual to have a bolon with crust
The name of the big restaurant with the bolon is horrible. If you know you know.
Oh I don't know, what does it mean?
To this ecuadorian is slang for the male genitalia.
@@ayngelina Although the "Picho" expression implies "rotten", or, "drunk", it is applied mostly in Colombia.
There is more to it behind the Picho's name, in reality a nice story told by the owners.
Good to know, I would have thought Andres would have picked up on that if it was tasteless.
Did you watch the video I shared of this?
No, I did not. Could you please share the Link?
Of course! facebook.com/Manabiparaelmundo/videos/636350717808660/
Calm down withthe robbed stuff. I will walk almost anywhere in Ecuador
Not everyone feels the same way you do. And people avoid Esmeraldas because they have heard it's dangerous. This series here is to show people how they can travel and have a good time here. But also I have to be honest about how I felt too. This was my first two days and it's how I felt here.
@@ayngelina
That is fine.
Esmeraldas has always had a reputation for danger. She would be irresponsible to not bring that up.
@@chirisici i love adventure.
Dangerous is where innocent kids are shot in their school....
Or cops kill you if you have dark skin.
NOW@ 8Thats Dangerous...
@@juicebox853 I hear you. Discussing safety here is really about addressing people's concerns because they aren't visiting because of it. If I didn't talk about this everyone would be asking about it. I find it's similar to Guayaquil, you need to know where to go and where you don't belong.
