it’s clear english is not his first language though. Give him some leeway he may not have known how to word it in a more politically correct way.
Theres generally two kinds of jewish that peoplego by. The ethnicity and the religion. So him saying that, he was probably referring to the religion where as she actually meant she was jewish as in her ancestry and not necessarliy her beliefs, because obviously by the life she leads, shes not a religious jew. He didnt really say anything wrong.
I don't see wht's offensive with it... I actually was also surprised that they were jewish cause from all the jewish I know they are all more or less religious and always display that they are jewish one way or another so yeah
