I live near the largest Costco in the world in Salt Lake City (they are building a larger one in California I think...). No alcohol in this one! And your first image -- There are soooooo many more people in the store at almost all hours. The parking lot is huge and it is almost always 3/4 full. When I last renewed my membership I said I might move to Europe. They surprised me when they said there were stores in Spain so I have been wondering what they have. Thanks!

There used to be a store in Porto called made in the USA, and they sold all kinds of things like American cereals, pop, tarts, Kraft macaroni & cheese as you showed but not any alcohol. it was in a bad location in the shopping mall on Santa Catarina. I think it was taken over by part of the food eateries that has expanded three times since beginning of Covid.

I am trying to learn Portuguese because I am moving to Central Portugal where I hope to buy a piece of property. I am from Long Island where I’ve not been able to afford the costs of living. I’m very excited to be coming on Sunday! I’m going to apply for the D7 Visa, so I will have to learn the Portuguese language, which I’m finding a challenge. I tried Babel, but had to cancel as my budget wouldn’t allow the expenditure, unfortunately. The costs of everything here are prohibitive. My grandfather migrated here way back when from Lisboa. I’m sorry about your mugging, I figured there was some crime in the more populated tourist areas. Anyway, thanks for your interesting videos. ❤

Usually the ones you miss are the little comfort things or everyday items you take for granted but in other countries they simply don't have.
Costco is not just a place to buy in bulk, and you can certainly save more than the membership fee in just one visit, but for you, it will also be the place to get these little things. He mentioned the maple syrup, I can assure you it's not a common item in Portugal - maybe there's a special type of cookies you like you can only get at Costco, maybe a beverage or the hotdogs.
I grew up in Portugal, and to this day, I still prefer certain items from there. I actually do the opposite trip (Spain > Portugal) to get some of these things, I have lived in other countries further away and I would get someone to mail non-perishable items when possible.
For the sole purpose of saving money, it makes no sense, just on the membership fee and fuel you will spend quite a lot, however you can plan ahead and make a weekend getaway out of it, with the plus of shopping at Costco on the return trip.

The prosciutto in the US is not as good as the spanish jamon or the portuguese presunto, because there is just italian prosciutto di Parma on sale in american stores.
Since you live in Portugal, I advise you to go to Trás os Montes region and taste our presunto serrano in Chaves, Vila Real. 🇵🇹🇨🇦

Brilliant video and sooo true!!! The Portuguese loo paper and paper towels are not the best 😐 Other essentials for me - Kirkland Parchment Paper, Kirkland Colombian Coffee, Dishwasher tabs, Laundry detergent and fabric conditioner - the last 2 are like light and day compared to what you can get here. I just wish they would build one in Badajoz, would be fantastic for all of us living in central PT 😁

BTW the costco kewpie mayo does NOT taste like the kewpie mayo from Japan. The Japanese one is more umami and richer. The US one feels like it skimped on something. It's lacking depth. It is probably good enough for making a sandwich if you're used to much worse US mayo, but between costco kewpie and Hellman's, Hellman's is a better value AND taste for mayo. Real Kewpie is much better.
