      I bought the 19-inch Makita XGT 40v just over a week ago. In Australia, we are lucky we get the better quad swing back blades (better mulch over bar blade and has 4 high lift blades). I dismissed Makita LXT when looking at electric mowers due to bad reviews. The ramp up was too slow, and safety cut off kicked in under load and having to manual change key swap batteries. Wanted Milwaukee initially. Great ergonomics but needs two huge batteries expensive run and poorer blade choice/cut height. AS Motor looks awesome, but it should at triple the price of the competition.
      Tool store showed me the new XGT (which I looked passed as I thought it was another LXT line). It only needs 1 battery to run and auto swaps on 2. Two 8 ah batteries last hours on maintenance mow. Instant ramp up and plenty of torque in long thick grass. Never stalled. Commercial build quality and that tiny exit chute never clogged and compacts that bag 100% full. The only niggle for me is higher cost of Makita (quality build) and no indicator on mower of battery charge left. There is a red-light battery indicator when flat but you need to lift hood and manually check on battery for how much charge is left (Not difficult).
      The difference between the LXT and XGT is night and day.

    Great video. Clearly shows the issues in design with cut and drop, the Makita, Milwaukee and Toro all seem to have tight grass flaps (with no bag on) so no grass can go through unlike the others, esp the AS which did very well, those narrow wheels with that weight on soft lawns looks like a tram maker in the making. What kw ratings are all these mowers?

  • @fubar12345
    @fubar12345 Год назад +1

    Great stuff, but I got to say, the last test wasn't ideal. The Stihl jammed up, but you kept it flat to the ground. With the others you pivoted them on the rear wheels a bit, which always helps mowers in thick stuff.
    That said, the AS Motor was still clearly the most powerful by a looong way

    i would expect those results from milwaukee and makita. Milwaukee focused on power and performance, and makita focused on heavy duty, quality, & reliability, usually leaving performance & power second. Ego's top of the line residential mowers runs a 1200watt motor, whereas the AS motor mower is running a 3.2kw(peak) EGO beast 💪🏾
      Deck design is another Major factor. I've found that Ego's newer mowers have a shallower deck, making it worse for processing tall grass. Their 18" model is probably the best/closest to being ready for the commercial user, or any user in this case 😁
      AS mower has very deep deck, helping with grass processing.

    Swatching this and the first thought was stop turning the mower over the oil, the petrol, then second thought was , shut up you dinosaur. Using them commercially would require a lot of batteries and chargers at night to recharge. And that's only the mower. Now count in a strimmer, hedgecutter and blower. The garage would need a bank of chargers. And a zillion sockets.

    Could I humbly suggest to stop calling the EGO motor an engine … many people don’t have the mechanical understanding that you have and this just’s confuses people whose expertise may not be in this area.
    Additionally, energy density of a lithium battery is nowhere near fuel … so saying it’s just like a petrol or diesel car under load is not accurate. Fuel has around 40 times more energy per kilogram than lithium!
    There’s plenty of basic evidence of this when you see equivalent tow tests of EV pickups, or the Tesla semi or Nuremberg race track where Tesla’s “Fastest car” only just scraps into the top 100 factory cars.
    Edit:
    I should say this was an excellent review!

    • @MachineryNation
      @MachineryNation  Год назад

      Thanks for the feedback.
      If they don’t understand that this is a battery mower video and me saying “I call it the EGO engine” then they should not be anywhere near a mower 😂😂
      My comparison between fuel and battery is based on how hard something is used. Thus reducing the time it will last. True in both cases!
      All I get from your feedback is fault can be found if you look hard enough 🤦🏻‍♂️😂 there are more important mistakes than this lol.

    • @garageblitztv3215
      @garageblitztv3215 Год назад

      My sincere apologies if you mistook my humble suggestions as offensive … I think you present exceptionally well and have certainly lifted the bar for entertaining videos on outdoor equipment.
      I was only trying to gently make a suggestion that calling a motor an engine, or engine a motor doesn’t help what your trying to do in the education of outdoor equipment … it also frustrates engineers, just like it would frustrate a landscaper with 10 years experience listening to a novice!
      Energy density:
      Once again this was not to insult you, just a humble suggestion brought on by an observation I have from people complaining about battery mowers and reduced run times Vs Gas … not many people appreciate that wet grass, blunt blades, hot days, or buffalo grass Vs couch have a much larger impact on battery mowers than gas. Ego receives a large amount of calls on battery life warranties and they will always ask about blade condition etc - people always respond that they never had this problem with gas.
      Your fine channel could do a video on the importance of blade condition or grass condition for battery mowers. My own experiences have found that in very long grass you can nearly double your battery life if you attack it twice at two levels - Gas mowers due to 40 times more energy density are simply not affected as much.
      Once again, sorry if you found my post offensive, it was not meant to be.
