    I am so proud of my Uncle Keith and his project team's achievement researching and constructing such a fantastic locomotive to run on the Bluebell. From just a spare boiler and the original regulator handle a beautiful replica of 32424 has emerged. Well done all in the Brighton Atlantic Group

    A magnificent achievement. I’m fortunate enough to have seen the original steaming through Clapham Junction in the mid 1950’s.

      It's even better in the flesh, and a fantastic tribute to the original. The team behind it have really done an incredible job. Glad you enjoyed it, Bob!

    I think this is the only operational Atlantic (4-4-2) in Britain as the very similar GNR engines (990 and 251) are now only static exhibits and those of other lines (NER, GCR, GWR, LYR, NBR etc) were all scrapped. So a real piece of history recreated. A good time for historic express engines with LSWR T3 563 having returned to steam last year (and again superbly videoed by this channel).

      Not just in Britain, but possibly in the world, since IIRC, there are no operable Atlantics in North America.

    • @iankemp1131
      @iankemp1131 23 дня назад

      @@centamangila1217 Yes, that seems very likely to me, as most countries went on quickly to larger 6-coupled engines, and even in Britain there has been no new Atlantic design for over 100 years.

      @andrewyoung749 22 дня назад

      yes but with technicalities.
      there are at least 4 operational atlantics in the uk on 15 inch gauge. and a couple of similar in the usa.
      for mainline ones;
      uk had at least one in the eighties on mainline tours, Belgium had an operational one into around 2004ish as a mainline runner for tours, Denmark had one running until about the millennium for mainline tours. the last in daily service were, i think, the Mozambique cape gauge ones which were withdrawn around the early 1970s. they could mop up by restoring one to traffic imho.

      Thanks very much!
      As a side note, 2999 "Lady of Legend" has been built with provisions to operate as an atlantic.

      @@andrewyoung749 Thanks for the useful and interesting extra information. The one item I'd query would be the UK; I think the only surviving standard gauge Atlantics are GNR Nos. 990 and 251 in the National Collection and they did some railtours but these finished in 1954. There are also a couple of 4-4-2 tank engines (not really the same thing) but again static exhibits or heritage lines only. UK mainline tours have been mainly run by 4-6-0s and 4-6-2s.

    This is not a British Railways locomotive. Why not honour the memory of its origin by painting it appropriately?

    • @andrewyoung749
      @andrewyoung749 22 дня назад

      1-because that's how they want to paint it
      2-its not any company loco it was literally only just built...
      3-it looks pretty smart in br black

      4. The group wanted this recreation to be a 'spiritual continuation' of the original, picking up where the original left off when it was withdrawn. 'To right the wrong', as they put it. So they decided to launch it representing 32424's final configuration.
      5. 32424's service with BR is still an important part of the locomotives history, which equally deserves recognition, especially as it was the last Brighton atlantic in service.
      6. It would require some mechanical alterations to authentically carry any other livery.
      7. He who pays the money, makes the choice.
      It's a shame that, even after 24 years of building the loco, the efforts of the Atalntic group get overshadowed by the usual opinions over paint.

    • @iankemp1131
      @iankemp1131 21 день назад

      Agree with all the points above, plus with many preserved locomotives they get repainted into different liveries over the years, so the engine may some day appear in LBSCR umber or Southern green - all equally valid.

    • @bluebellsalmon
      @bluebellsalmon 19 дней назад

      All the fundraising was done on the basis that this was a recreation of the locomotive in the form in which it was withdrawn, as the last Atlantic in BR service in the UK. It will carry other liveries in the future, but this is the form in which it became famous, and ran over the Bluebell Line several times in the 1950s.
