I'm genuinely shocked you went through trouble getting the PC version of RE1R working. I just played through it earlier this year with zero issues and dualsense controls working out of the box too.
absolutely love the GBC port of RE1. There are a couple secrets in it however that I have tried th show people.... With some emulators, I was able to access a hidden background viewer by holding down the button when you choose your character. When you see the main hall, quickly let go. you can use a/b to cycle backgrounds. also, pause the game then RESET the emulator (CTRL+R). Game should go back to the pause menu oddly enough, then when you unpause, an unused portion of the music will begin playing. All rooms are available, was able to make it all the way to the heleport with the patched version of the ROM. Should probably record it and upload tbh...
@@AvalancheReviews Still only the one zombie throughout the whole game but loved seeing all the backgrounds. If you wish to see all the backgrounds, I put up a screenshot of every single one on Steam if you look up JERICHO DREAD. For some reason, the ROM I have looks like Claire is in place of Rebeca, not sure if whoever patched it did this or was already there???
I always wanted Jill to respond back to Barry "Well do you have THIS?" and holds a handful of ammo out to him lol. Because a .44 magnum is great...but not when it's you only have 6 rounds and don't have a ton of ammo. Revolver's would be so impractical in this scenario and even a Desert Eagle (like in real life!) because of it's 8 shot capacity, which is only 2 more than most .44 or .50 caliber revolvers. I would've taken him being a bad ass with a Steyr Aug or H&K HK33 (a 7.62x51 "large MP5" basically that doesn't shoot "bb's" despite looking amazing haha), I'd be much more scared of someone carrying either of those than a revolver haha
You're literally my favorite RUclipsr! And one of the very few people who have the ability to help me fall asleep after a long day of work. Your videos are amazing and very interesting. I've said it before, but keep up the amazing work. Much love from Korea.
The ClassicRebirth executable of the original game isn't based on the Windows 95 port, rather it's also based on the SourceNext PC port like the sequels and Dino Crisis.
This video encapsulates my interest in video “stuff”. I’d love to have a conversation with this guy just about video quality, output, and things like that.
I presume the Windows version issue of fast animations would be related to the FPS being way too fast (since your modern PC is way better than anything in the mid 90s). Probably could go into nVidia settings (presuming you've got an nVidia card) and set the max FPS limit of the RE executable to whatever it's intended (I'd presume either 30 or 60, but not sure how you'd be able to figure out what the FPS was intended to be).
@@AvalancheReviews Funny enough should've kept watching though since, as you discussed, they did the classic "fan-made patch that makes PC version really good" thing with REbirth. Apparently Dino Crisis PC has a patch too, DC REbirth, so gonna be checking that out thanks to you! :)
I might've already said this in the RE6 video but the camera is just zoomed out on PS4, XB1 and switch because they changed the default camera values. It was something they added to the original releases via a patch but it still defaults to 0s. Switch runs at 1080p docked and 720p in portable mode
God what a masterpiece of videos all pasted together, I’m in heaven. I could listen to you and Lotus Prince forever. The one thing I was surprised not to see though was Remake playing on the Series X since Microsoft made this game Auto HDR compatible and also supports Dolby Vision. Would be interested to see if there is any noticeable difference since you mentioned the artifacting in the PS4 copy during the intro.
I'm so glad you've gone back to this, especially since as a kid in the 90's I always had this obsession with the Saturn due to it being kind of the black sheep of the generation in the US where I grew up. having a PS1 and N64 only able to fawn over the screenshots of Saturn games in gaming magazines made it mysterious and seem like something I was missing out on. But now as an adult its just too damn expensive to collect for and the vast majority of interesting sort of classic adventure games remained Japan exclusives, but still hope to get Enemy Zero again someday and show my dad since we used to play that when I was a kid
3:38:17 the only difference i could find between the xbox 360 and the ps3 version is that the ps3 version has the ps2 quality audio (only on ganados "i think") for some reason. and when an in-game cutscene starts playing the screen goes black and there's a fade in effect for the cutscenes. while the 360 version is just the wii port in hd with normal controls
Is this just a compilation of the previous videos or is there some new content added in? Asking beforehand because its quite long, lol, I'd rather jumpt to the new material if there is one. Also, why does Avalanche keep doing that thing of compiling previous videos into a very long one? More views? Genuinely curious 🤔
I tried to make sure there were no big volume jumps in this video, just for people like you. I was sleeping to a youtube video a few months ago and there was a big noise in it that woke me up. Now I'm paying attention to that stuff in my videos.
I'd have to recheck but I'm sure you can force REmake on GC to Progressive(and/or 60Hz(I forget which) by holding 'B' while loading the game(don't think it works on RE2, 3 and CVX though) at least on the PAL versions.
In the NTSC releases, only 4 can be forced to 480p. You can force all of them with Swiss. I've heard of PAL games supporting 480p when NTSC ones don't, before.
This is really interesting. I'm not even an RE fan, and if I do ever play it, I already know I'm playing the PC remaster. I'm not a game dev, or a youtuber, and I have no aspirations to be either. I'm not planning on lecturing RE fans on which ports they should play. I have no way of applying any of this information and yet I must consume it.
Also, hate to comment twice, but Jared have you ever tried the Windows release of Enemy Zero? So meaning the official PC release back in '98, not emulated on a PC
Are you not aware that the Resident Evil 1 Remake has a version with Japanese Audio Voice Overs? I believe it was the Japanese Biohazard version on the PS3. Not sure if the future remasters had it though.
It's a bit surprising as to why you were so taken aback by the DS port of Resident Evil as the DS is almost on par with the N64, just a tiny but under powered compared to it, but it's smaller screen meant it had more to play with as it wasn't rendering so much. And since they managed to get RE2 working on the N64 the DS should be a given.
I just bought me a used PS two this week!!!! Gonna be going back and playing some games I missed!! Got me an HD adapter up scaler and I will be ready to go!
@@AvalancheReviews hey I got a really good deal on it, $90 and it it is one of the newer models missing the S 400 ILink on the front, looks brand spanking new and came with a decent controller and a memory card for 90 bucks!!
Well.. much to my dismay, unfortunately, I had to return the PS2 I had ordered😢 because when it arrived to me, the memory card door to slot number one was broken, there was dust and dirt all over the top of the console, the memory card was just thrown in the box, and not even wrapped up to be protected in any type of way, the person that packaged it bubble, wrapped the cords, but not the console itself, they put bubble wrap in the bottom of the box and then crammed the cords memory cord and controller all in there on top of the bubble wrap, and then crammed the PS2 console on the very top and then taped it closed, therefore making it to where the only part of the box that was protecting the PS2, was the bottom of the box with the PS2, sitting on a thick cushion of bubble wrap, and corrugated paper!! The top part was fully exposed to any blows that could have incurred coming from Texas to here…. I’m just glad they gave me my money back, but it was a five star rated seller with not a single bad review !! Which fitting, considering the PS2 would not read PS2 DVDs, or PS2, CD roms, As some of those models, especially the ones that got refurbished at GameStop got weird updates to the CPUs that screwed them up and made it to where it would struggle to read a PS2 game and almost be like it was playing in slow motion as you could hear the laser struggling to read the game, but a PS1 game, no problem at all.. Either way, I bought it because of what it looked like in the pictures ! And what arrived to me did not look remotely close to what the goddamn picture looked like and the person that packaged it I would argue was a child??? And as I pointed out to the seller, my biggest gripe: IF, What they wrote in the ad was true then they would’ve known that it had these issues with reading games, particularly of the PS2 variety .. what was written in the ad was true. This means you sold me a console that you lied about in the ad- And I’m still without one, but the fucked up thing is is that I got an Upscaler, a Japanese clear green, PS one memory card, additional set of Cords, all that I ordered after I ordered the PS2, that arrived a day before it got here.. so.. Better luck next time.. “5 store, rated seller, tested and working!!!!” I sent it back to them, exactly the way they sent it to me, the only difference is, I actually wiped the console down and made it look as close to how it should have looked as possible. Texas man, what a joke-
Regarding RE:CV, I agree with you. It was only until recently that I discovered that many fans actually consider it a relatively weak game. I always held it in a high regard, and while not the same as the previous releases, it is still was still worthy as the last traditional RE game (not counting the RE1 Remake). A great Retrospective video by the way, truly enjoyed this one!
People shit on resident evil 5 for the action and qte’s constantly so no, people liking resident evil 4 isn’t the reason resident evil 6 ended up the way it did 7 years after 4 released.
ohhh i didnt see any RE4VR Quest 2, its my favorite port, it made the game feel brand new to me, i just wonder with your expierence with the RE4 ports, what you think of the Quest 2 VR port?
The only version of Resident Evil 2 that I've played is the Dreamcast version, but I may buy other versions for the differences since it's one of my all time favourite games. It's crazy to think that when I played it for the first time in around 2000 I was drunk and really didn't like the game at all, the problem was the tank controls, I can't remember if there were any other things that didn't like about the game too. I was thinking what the hell is this, why do so many people say it's such a great game? The next day or a few days later I played it again sober this time and I ended up liking it, either that day or eventually it became one of my all time favourite games. I still have the game to this day, and it's still like new because of me looking after it like I try to with everything. I like pretty much everything about it, the way it plays, the 2D backgrounds, the atmosphere, the music, and now it's so nostalgic.
Aaaaaaah, and I was thinking I was weird because every time I saw some part of animated background in RERR I thought that it looked off, not the way I remembered it from GC release. So it's just a bland 3D model now. Thanks for clarifying.
Why? WHY? WHYYYY? WHY--- ---Hasn't anyone else made an almost five hour video concerning this subject? This legitimately is a subject matter that objectively requires this level of analysis. Thank you.
@@AvalancheReviews Also this cross-section of games showcases probably the first real time during a console cycle: There was really an honest to god attempt to get an authentic experience of said game on whichever hardware it was ported on. With the previous generation this was _not_ a given. Same name but on different console hardware seriously ran the risk you were getting a _different game._ By the time the first RE was rolling around, that gap was at least being attempted to be closed. But we weren't 'there' yet because hardware during this time period was still radically different between systems. And yet, here was RE going: "You know what? So the Saturn doesn't have polygons so were manually moving the vertices on quaded sprites to make triangles. And the N64 has the same amount of storage as a calculator. Were going to try and get this to work." And for the most part they succeeded. Not prefect, but the core game and it's presentation was pretty lock-step between platforms. They could have cut rooms. Removed entire sequences. But they didn't. They stuck RE2 onto a 64MB cart and it was for the most part: The same game on the PS1. They didn't need to do that. They could have just did screens with text. Everyone did screens with text for N64 ports. Remember screens with text? Omg. They didn't need to do a human sacrifice/summon an elder god/create a new way for that hardware to decode video files because THERE WASN'T ANY HARDWARE TO DO THAT. But they did do that- and it was really one of the last times such extremes needed to be done to do that. I find that fascinating.
Totally agree with you. RE6 is a fun game. I avoided it for years due to all the bad things I heard about it and due to the fact I hated 5 so much. But when I finally got to play it I was thrilled and super entertained. The fan service that went into the game was great too. Getting all of our characters to meet and interact was awesome. Zombies returning was super welcomed too. Besides the QT events I thoroughly enjoyed the game. Controls didn’t bother me either. It was a little bit of a learning curve but you do pick them up fast.
You are my source for an RE addiction, seriously you put a lot of work on your content and you do not disappoint, keep up the great work.

You had an amazing experience with your ass? Well, congratulations I suppose!
if capcom just threw 1 2 3 on one collection i would buy it all over again
You honestly didn’t sound like a ST fan lol
The lack of a RE5 ports video is glaring
Ah yes my new podcast to listen to for the day. Thanks!
You are very welcome
THANK YOU for some entertainment while I'm stuck at home with that damn virus
I just bought me a used PS two this week!!!!
Gonna be going back and playing some games I missed!! Got me an HD adapter up scaler and I will be ready to go!
This is the correct set of priorities.
And as I pointed out to the seller, my biggest gripe:
IF,
What they wrote in the ad was true then they would’ve known that it had these issues with reading games, particularly of the PS2 variety .. what was written in the ad was true. This means you sold me a console that you lied about in the ad-
And I’m still without one, but the fucked up thing is is that I got an Upscaler, a Japanese clear green, PS one memory card, additional set of Cords, all that I ordered after I ordered the PS2, that arrived a day before it got here.. so..
Better luck next time..
“5 store, rated seller, tested and working!!!!”
I sent it back to them, exactly the way they sent it to me, the only difference is, I actually wiped the console down and made it look as close to how it should have looked as possible.
Texas man, what a joke-
This man’s work ethic is weapon. It’s really powerful, especially against living things!
This got me good
Regarding RE:CV, I agree with you.

Hey there, what happened with RE5 videos/segments? Why did you skip them?
Man, I had to do a double-take on that thumbnail lol
ohhh i didnt see any RE4VR Quest 2, its my favorite port, it made the game feel brand new to me, i just wonder with your expierence with the RE4 ports, what you think of the Quest 2 VR port?
What's different between all the other port videos vs this one, or is this a compilation of all the port videos released so far?
Man, this guy truly breaks his balls for our entertainment. My hats off to you, sir 🎩
Pretty sure this is just a compilation of previously existing videos, he does that a lot
the saturn was my first version my mate across the road had it
dude I love you idc these videos keep my sanity during uni lol
Why? WHY? WHYYYY? WHY---
---Hasn't anyone else made an almost five hour video concerning this subject? This legitimately is a subject matter that objectively requires this level of analysis. Thank you.
It's a wildly interesting subject to cover. All the little small details that are different between ports. Makes fun amazingly fun research.
Were going to try and get this to work."
And for the most part they succeeded.
Cooool! I love videos like this!
How does the RE1 Seamless HD Project compare to the PC/Sourcenext versions?
Seriously? You pulled a GOATSE for the thumbnail?! 😂
