I wanted to point out something that still blows me away: Blake Roman, Angel's VA, has never voice acted before. Compared to the rest of the main cast and their past performances, he was a nobody. And he KILLED it.

I like how Adam seems to be the "golden child" of heaven. He's a spoiled brat at the end of the day that gets what he wants and gets to do whatever he wants. He can swear like a sailor and nobody bats an eye cause to them it's just Adam being Adam. He has his own army, the exterminations were his idea (judging from the conversation Sera had with him in this episode), and they look to him when asked what gets a soul into heaven. They look to him as if he can do no wrong since he's "the 1st soul to get into heaven".
Yeah, & admitting that Adam is flawed would be admitting that they are also flawed, as he is their creation. None of them want to think less of themselves (the elite elders seem to lack humility with the exception of Emily (who is elite in her being a Seraphim) who didn't even know what was happening). All these subtle little comparisons to real world issues you can make is another reason I love the direction they're going with this.

Truer words have never been sung. If angels can fall then why can’t demons rise? I would never want to go to any afterlife where they are so elitist and bigoted that even if a demon lived up to their standards they still couldn’t be allowed in.

The thing is, the angels don't decide who gets into Heaven. It's out of their hands, from the sounds of things. When Sera said there was no evidence souls can be redeemed, she was talking in the sense that they would be converted into an angel by whatever ancient force is judging souls. There was evidence that a demon can improve, but it didn't appear to have redeemed him. Therefore, no evidence that redemption is possible.
There’s a little thought that Emily was created after Lucifer was banished to Hell. Emily never shows any hostility or disliking towards Lucifer, Charlie, or the souls in hell. And Lucifer was described to bring fun and joy. Or something along that line. After Lucifer fell they needed another Angel to fill his role, Emily

I thought she was a "child" of Sera, however that works. she looks way too like Sera for it to just be a coincidence, especially given Lucifer never looked like Sera either except for the 6 wings and she is also just a adolescent version of her. Viv's biggest strength is interesting and unique character designs so Sera and Emily being alike is just out of character for her if there wasnt a reason for it.

God could’ve made Emily resemble Sera because she was specifically for Sera to care for and guide, possibly. Emily is treated like a younger sister so I feel like it would make sense

Vaggie being an angel makes sense of the "THIS IS HOW YOU LEARNED TO TRUST PEOPLE?!" scene in Ep 3. She learned in combat, on the front lines of Hell.
Y'all probably hear this a lot, but Helluva Boss, Hazbin's sister show on youtube, is also VERY incredible, and takes place in the same universe! Y'all should react to that, too!

Emily getting angry when singing is my favorite scene of her.
Same. I already liked here and trusted that she was giving Charlie a fair shot, but once she got angry at Sera, I knew she actually was pure of heart (and basically Charlie's Heaven counterpart).
The lore for this universe runs incredibly deep. There are 7 layers of hell run by the seven sins respectively. The pride ring is where hazbin hotel takes place entirely because sinners cant go to the lower layers despite being more powerful than the average hellborn... also beelzebub is voiced by kesha
During Saint Peter's song, you can see a brief glimpse of Molly, Angel's twin sister, also quite pink and spidery, down on the first step toward the right.

Hypothesis: souls are sending themselves where they end up. There is no external system of judgment. Heaven has good people who had faith in heaven’s forgiveness of their faults AND self-righteous narcissists. Hell has monsters who knew how awful they were and embraced it as a path to power AND people consumed by guilt & self-loathing. People end up where they believe they’re supposed to in this universe.

I truly cannot wait for the reaction to the last 2 episodes. I only watched this series in the first place because y’all said you were going to react to it, but it instantly became my favorite thing from 2024 so far, by a mile. The characters are so rich and textured, and the story and worldbuilding is so satisfying and well-constructed. Plus, the voice acting is absolutely top tier. That never hurts. Eps 7 & 8 can’t possibly come soon enough
So, as a theologian, the portrayal of heaven is extremely interesting. The entire theme of "the fall" in the Garden of Eden is that pursuit of knowledge as contrasted with the unknowing trust in God. The Garden is the epitome of "ignorance is bliss" and that is reflected in how they structure heaven in this show. Heaven is a place that is only perfect because they don't know anything about what's going on. Like Adam and Eve, they don't have "hard days" or any choices to make other than the choice to go along with things and not question. It's easy to stay perfect when you have no difficult choices to make and only rely on surface-level obedience.
I was so excited we got to see Angel Dust’s twin sister Molly in the welcome to heaven song!! She looks so freaking cute!
Wish this show had 10 episodes instead of 8, Helluva boss takes it time to make it breathe some more and it works so much better
(also helps that Helluva boss focuses only on characters while Hazbin has a whole story to tell)
The show definitely suffers from being so short. A lot of really neat ideas are just hastily gone through and there isn't a lot of time to actually let the characters interact and have relationships. Good music helps some of the lifting with that, but if we just had some more time with everything it would be a lot better
I'm pretty sure that blame more then likely is with Amazon only letting them have 8 to begin with.

I think the most interesting thing is the whole time emily calls sinners, humans or souls, while sera calls them sinners or demons

Seriously though, Heaven doesn't pass Divine Judgment as far as we know, nor even knows what the process is. They can only take in the souls that make it there, and fear that questioning things - such as what Lucifier did - will result in Angels falling/Heaven breaking (even further, considering the existence of evil 'breaking their order' in the prologue).
That's terrifying, because no one in the celestial system knows the rules of the game they're playing...
The head Seraphim seems to know more than she's letting on, more than anyone else; there's a couple times where she makes some uncomfortable shifty eyed faces during the trial scene, and she does specifically say "there's a lot that you don't know". She may not know everything regarding the celestial system, but she seems to be more knowledgeable than everyone else.
At a guess, I think she does know (and if i'm right can't say). I really feel sorry for her, especially if Adam engineered the info that hell was uprising. Stuck between an impossible decision. Won't claim she handled it perfectly (letting Adam in charge of anything seems... unwise), but you can see she does care.

@@Iejir_Isk Agreed, I feel sympathy for her as well. Lucifer had good intentions with granting humanity with free will, but he clearly didn't think things through and it backfired on everyone, not just him. Now the head Seraphim has to deal with the potentially deadly consequences of his actions for all eternity. I appreciate that this show isn't going for the angle that demons are misunderstood and that angels are the truly evil ones. Just watching the first episode would give the impression that all angels are bad just based on meeting Adam and Lute, but the storytelling has been smarter and more complex than that. The head Seraphim isn't a bad person, she feels she has been forced into allowing an awful thing in order to protect her own people and the good souls in her charge.
I have to imagine that at one point Adam was a good person in order to have gotten into Heaven, but having the opportunity to get revenge on Lucifer & Lilith in the name of protecting Heaven and having the power to decide which souls in Hell live on and which ones die has twisted him into an awful person.

Adam's look of absolute mind-blown when it's revealed that Vaggie was an exorcist angel is priceless. It's been great watching you two get more invested in the story and characters when you started out unsure of whether you were going to like the series at all. I suspect the finale will leave you wanting more.
I was so banking on Adam getting this invested because I knew he would absolutely love it. I wasn't wrong and it's so fun to see someone be this into it with theories and ideas. Just like me! Haha love it

I’m still wondering what happened to Eve. Took the apple from Lucifer, but not hanging out in heaven with Adam, where’d she land? Is she gonna show up?
Her complete absence makes me suspicious. I suspect we'll see more of her story in Season 2. I know the fan favorite theory was that Lilith was the one holding into Alistor's chain, but I'm not so sure that it might not be Eve instead. Viv does like intentionally writing against tropes and loves her surprise reveals, so I'm curious to see what happens later!

I really wanted to see your reactions to the reveals and implications of this episode and you delivered for sure, you were even more excited and confused that I expected. I´m glad you´re having such a great time with this, and watching both Adam trying to puzzle it all together and making theories while Jay relishes in the musical aspects is wonderful. I love Emily so much! My reaction to Emily was much like that one Rosa meme from B99. "I've only had Emily for a day and half but if anything happened to her I would k**l myself and anyone in this room." She's just so sweet and the way she turned on Sera and joined up with Charlie in the song was really epic. You Didn't Know is possibly the best song in the series. It's the one I've replayed and re listened too the most.
As far as none of the angels nor Adam knowing what gets people into Heaven it's not like there's a list of 10 Commandments or a book that tells you what you should do or not do. But that aside there's been talk and I thought about this too maybe if someone goes to Heaven or Hell depends on their mindset and what they believe they deserve not just what they do when they're alive. Adam is jerk and a giant d-bag but he genuinely believed he never made any mistakes and deserved to go to Heaven more then likely because he was the first man. Maybe if you're made to believe you're going to hell or you think you deserve hell in spite of the fact you may have been an okay person or not done anything truly bad that is where you end up. Like the little boy that Vaggie didn't kill, maybe he could have ended up in hell because he had some abusive/extremely religious parents or family, maybe they were in a cult and he was made to believe he was going to go to hell no matter what kind of person he was and he lived with that mindset. It's something that could be possible I think.
There's also a big theory and a lot of speculation the reason why Angel can't be redeem is due to his contract with Valentino. What if because he has a contract with Valentino his soul belongs to Val and therefore belong to Hell and he can't earn a place in Heaven because of it? Also Adam is an idiot and doesn't really know but if someone else has a contract it could keep them from being truly redeemed and get into Heaven
It's not mentioned in the show but something that Vivienne has released information about Angel and in the past on the wikis and off screen is at 4:05 here you can see a blond woman down in the front with multiple legs. This has not quite officially been confirmed but somewhat confirmed to have been Anthony's twin sister Molly when he was alive in the main series. You can find concept art of her out there online and she does have her own Wiki page. I just can't find out if Vivi has 100% confirmed to be Molly.
Just only two more episodes left, excited but also a bit sad that's all there is. Wish that Amazon would have been willingly to give Vivi 10-12 episodes but we take what we can!

In the “Welcome to Heaven” song, there’s a female character in the background that looks similar to Angel Dust. That’s his sister, Molly.
Honestly the 3rd best episode (personal opinion, with 4 being second). And that duet with emily & charlie, goosebumps every time
I gotta say - listening to the music without the instrumentals has given me a whole new appreciation for the songs, specifically the performances from the actors!
Waiting a whole week for the next two episodes was absolutely nerve-wracking. But this episode was absolutely phenomenal. (Emily is the sweetest and must be protected at all costs.)

I don’t know if Lucifer tried exactly this (redeeming souls in hell) - but he tried empowering humanity with potential that Heaven didn’t believe they were worthy of before (Eden). And that resulted in the creation of hell, his own fall, and the endless atrocities of humanity in turn creating Sinner Demons.
Really happy to see you guys enjoying this amazing show. Next up you should check out Hazbin's sister show and the equally brilliant Helluva Boss. Again has interesting, complex and fun characters with even more worldbuilding. But this time we follow the lives of the Hellborn residence and get to explore the other Rings of Hell. Honestly you guys will love that show too.

Yeah, I feel he was talking more broadly about "trying this all before", meaning more like "I tried to change the way heaven does things".
I really enjoy how the Character Design of the Head Seraphem is so similar to the supposed "Realistic depiction of Angels". Instead of the classic serene male/female in a dress and big wings, the Biblically Correct angels are ment to be wierd Eyes with feathers, with loads of eyes spread all over and almost Ledritch.
Hell uprising makes Lilith's disappearance much more interesting. Especially since we know her song can empower Hell
If you want more from this universe, PLEASE watch Helluva Boss, same hell, same creators, same chaotic crude humor goodness, more traumatic backstories and more lovable characters!

Lucifer's own dreams, proposing something different and then latter free will with the fruit of knowledge of good and evil, were smacked down and punished by Heaven and he thought they would crush Charlie's dreams. He didn't want her to go through the same experience. It wasn't that he had tried the exact same thing though.

I don't think the Seraphim's concerns about Hell uprising are unjustified. Whether there really was an actual previous uprising or if it's just that Hell's numbers and power have grown so much that even if they weren't yet unable to actually attack Heaven, she still found it alarming that someday they potentially could. If people who were truly wicked and/or caused pain & chaos when they were alive all end up in Hell, then that means that all of the worst of humanity exists there, including people who would want to dominate others simply because they can. Think of the worst, most dangerous, and evil people we've seen in Hell thus far: the V's, and Alastor, who are all very evil in different ways. We already know from the Overlord meeting in a previous episode that the V's are interested in attacking Heaven directly now that they know angels can be killed by sinners, and though we don't know Alastor's endgame yet we know he loves having power and flexing it on other souls. If any of these villains were to actually succeed in attacking or overthrowing Heaven, that would be absolutely terrible for the souls under the Seraphim's protection that reside there, who were good, kind, and selfless in life.
Heaven should have tried something other than genocide first, i.e. redemption, but knowing what kind of people go to Hell in this universe I can understand why the Seraphim was fearful enough to allow the exterminations, and why she allows Adam to get away with his awful behavior even though he's an angel because what he's doing has kept Heaven safe thus far and minimized potential threats from Hell.
@@JessAnderson1988 but if the exterminations never happened, hell wouldn't have angelic weapons, meaning the demons couldn't ever rise against heaven and win, regardless of if they knew angels could be killed. just, like, have people guard heaven instead of yearly genocides
@@ilovecats52fandom Oh I'm not saying that the genocides were the right way to go. Just that I understand why she would feel the need to go ahead with them.
So far all we know is that only angelic weapons can also kill angels. It is possible that there are other powers or weapons that we are aware of that Hell could have sought out to gain power. And even if there aren't any other weapons or powers, if Hell still has the greater numbers of evil, devious, and vicious people, and found the means to invade heaven, then it's possible they could still overrun Heaven even if the angels had the angelic steel weapons at their disposal.
Even moreso if one day Lucifer changed his tune and decided to seek revenge for being thrown into the pit of Hell for all eternity. Which we know isn't his thing, but the heavenly beings who haven't seen him in thousands of years wouldn't know.
@@JessAnderson1988 And that fear allowed Adam to tale advantage of her. If it wasn't for Lucifer, the Exocists would've been killing Hellborn too even though unlike many sinners, are actually innocent with their crime only being born in Hell.
There's also the fact that Sera never even tried to find alternative solutions, like a goddamn peace treaty. Nope, like basically everyone, they just said they're in Hell, redemption is beyond them even if they regret and want to be better.
And if the extermination is inevitable, how about instead of being completely indiscriminate, perhaps target the ones with the worst crimes done in life and unwilling to repent even after death? I guarantee there were a crapton of sinners who were just decent people or even good people in life that made bad choices or were forced to do things they didn't want to do, and stuff.like that.
I believe this to be heavily related to Lillith.
It was mentioned that while Lucifer lost his drive, Lillith thrived and used her voice to empower demonkind, immediately followed by Heaven's decision to start the purges.
My thoughts on this is that while Lucifer became disillusioned by the sinners, Lillith may have embraced Hell's wickedness and became something of a Voice of the People, something that might also help explain why they split up (AND her current whereabouts.)
Heaven may have simply seen this newfound confidence in Hell as a big red flag and decided to preemptively keep them in check. Wouldn't want them getting any ideas.
"They were uprising" is just a nice way of saying "These people are becoming a bit too boisterous so I no longer feel confident about my position of power over them."
Sera going full Yandere talking "oh it's such a shame but we HAD to" also tells me her reasoning ain't quite as virtuous as she presents it to be.
It's political destabilization of a foreign power to ensure they never reach the level they MIGHT become a threat under the self-righteous guise that if you don't they WILL become one.

What were you two told when this show was recommended to you? Did you just think it was going to be a funny musical show and didn't realize that they had a really intricate story? They did a great job on episodes 7 and 8 I know you'll really like them too.

One thing i noticed about Emily, she is the only angel who touches Charlie or takes her hand
and she refers to the sinners and demon kind as people, not demons
showing she not only is pure but also is a good person.

ok, so is hinted that Lucifer whole thing was not the same that Charlie, Lucifer give humanity something, maybe freedom or some other thing, but that "freedom" was a two sides blade, humanity now can do amazing things, but they also can do terrible things, Lucifer punishment was to stay in hell and only see the worst of humanity, he can't never see the good that his actions caused, only the bad, and that broke him. Is hinted that once in hell he try to see the best of sinners, he build the city he build a theme park, he build a lot of nice things for the sinners, but again and again they only destroy or corrupt the nice things he created and that is why he has no hope for the sinners and avoid the sinners now.
however is hinted that Lilith try some little rebelion in some part of the past, and that failed big time, so now Heaven use extermination to cut the number of souls in hell so they never have the number of rebelion again.

NGL if Adam does a Sir Pentious I think Amanda could pull off a Cherry Bomb cosplay.
One little detail that not many people talk about is Adam's insecurity... he seems like a one-note character but then we have that little scene of him saying "yeah, that sure got me into Heaven" which is his usual personality... but then he ask "right Sera?" in a very nervous and unsure tone, almost as if he's actually subconsciosly aware of how awful his actions and attitude are.
this also goes along with a previous scene where him and Sera are talking in private and he says "What do you want me to do? im just one guy" Which is NOT the Arrogant and Larger-than-life Personality that he has shown so far.
All of these little hints seem to suggest that there's more to Adam than we can see at first glance.

Lucifer didn’t try to redeem souls. He’s always been disgusted by the sinners for misusing the free will they were given.
His “I tried this all before, my dreams were too hard to defend” was a reference to how Lucifer wanted to pursue his own dreams of creation and heaven refused to accept them and kicked him down to hell.
The comparison here is to Charlie also trying to persuade heaven to support her “dream,” hers being to help sinners to be redeemed so that the exterminations can stop.
So they send soldiers in the exterminate souls regularly but someone defends themselves and heaven feels like it needs to wipe the whole population out. And of course no one from hell can be allowed up there long time now especially because they would talk about the cleanse leading to the rest of heaven finding out. And another aspect that just came to my mind: what If that would also turn all angels into sinners? I mean If they know they can come back to heaven by redeeming themselves from their sins again “without consequence" why wouldn't they just go down there, have fun and sin a little? You know, experience all the things that are forbidden in heaven

I kind of wonder if through some soap opera plot contrivance Charlie and Emily are sisters. Like, probably not, right? That would suggest no one in Heaven can just, like, be a good person unless they share biological ties to one or more of Charlie's parents; but gosh, they sound just alike and even kind of look alike. While she is right from a moral perspective Charlie feels so sheltered as a personality. Just because a lot of sinner's can be redeemed doesn't mean they should. There are loads of souls in hell for exactly the right reason's. That being said ordering their extermination is still pretty vile even worse when you realize Lucifer essentially gave the all clear on it as well.
