    A brilliant artist, elegant and aristocratic. Extraordinary technique and mastery of style. The recital, cruel and comprehensive, tests Siepi to the extreme. He tosses off difficulties with ease and aplomb. In a class with Alexander Kipnis. Magnificent.

    Siepi & Pinza are for me the supreme Italian basso cantante voices in my experience. I rate Pinza superior in some ways in terms of tonal production & overall splendor of tone although (& here I court controversy, I realize) in 2 great Mozart roles (FIGARO & GIOVANNI) I prefer Siepi in terms of musicianship & relative ease of vocal production. Both have charisma to spare as GIOVANNI but by the time he took on FIGARO, vocally at least, Pinza found the higher tessitura a bit problematic. Despite being of the cantante breed, Pinza & Siepi both had fabulous lower extensions to their instruments: Pinza down (at least) to low D & Siepi even one whole tone deeper. Despite there being a number of fine voices these days, IMO, these two giants remain unsurpassed. Pinza also in most of his repertoire was also a more imaginative interpreter than Siepi who could remain sometimes uninvolved drammatically except when singing Mozart.

    • @이준혁-q7z
      @이준혁-q7z 2 года назад +1

      They both had great agility in their voices that made them able to sing roles with higher tessitura then the average. Pinza had glorious pianissimo in both the lower and higher range of his voice, and siepi had that golden tone making him roar like a lion.

    • @jefolson6989
      @jefolson6989 Месяц назад

      You are correct and have good taste! Pinza was my.1st bass hero, then Kipnis then Siepi and Tozzi. But if I had to pick one it would be Siepi. Tozzi is vastly underrated because Siepi was his competition and the did the same roles so its natural. They both always sang beautifully with taste and refinement. Amazing to think that Siepi was the fully.developed artist at age 21. His voice didn't change hardly at all in a long career

    Cesare Siepi (Milano, 10 febbraio 1923 - Atlanta, 5 luglio 2010) è stato un basso italiano, attivo dagli anni quaranta agli ottanta del novecento e considerato uno dei maggiori del secolo. La notevole estensione, unitamente alla capacità di modulare una voce imponente secondo le caratteristiche del ruolo e alle doti d'interprete, gli hanno permesso di affrontare un repertorio particolarmente vasto ed eterogeneo, rendendone difficile l'attribuzione a una precisa tipologia vocale. Nella pubblicazione Le grandi voci (Garzanti - 1964) Rodolfo Celletti scrive di lui: "Siepi vanta una voce piena, risonante, omogenea e dal timbro assai pastoso. È tendenzialmente "basso cantabile", ma i suoni tondi e morbidi, il fraseggio ampio e aristocratico e la prestante figura scenica gli consentono di impersonare con grande prestigio anche parti regali e sacerdotali, che la tradizione vorrebbe appannaggio dei bassi profondi. Diversamente dai suoi colleghi dell'epoca, era molto restio ad apparire in tv e a concedere interviste. Scomparve all'età di 87 anni a causa di un ictus ad Atlanta, dove si era stabilito da tempo con la famiglia.
